The only thing I can say about this business (and the owner) is that she really delivers! Whatever…read moreyou want, you can get and get it the WAY you want. Me and one of my besties have had Michelle make 2 cakes for us for our dear friend Nakia (yes, THAT Nakia) for his annual birthday bash at The Saxon Pub, which was on 02/22/13 this year. Last year, the 1st time we used Michelle, we gave her an idea we had and she just ran with it - she ended up making a beautiful white cake with strawberry filling that had the 1st 6 music notes to Happy Birthday to You across the top with a little 3-D gum paste figure of Nakia singing into a microphone. I posted pictures of the 1st cake he got from me and my bestie Susan that he was so totally blown away with. (He still has the gum paste likeness in his freezer.) This year I sent her a picture of his new fan-financed CD, Drowning In The Crimson Tide, and had asked her to incorporate the CD cover onto the cake. She kept me abreast of what she was doing and when she delivered the cake at The Saxon Pub, it was nothing short of AMAZING!!! She made a cake with a bottom ring on top of a mirror with a "crimson tide" going around the sides with a top tier that she painted to look like Nakia's CD cover. And to top it all off, the top tier of the cake rotated! she totally outdid herself with this over-the-top cake and Nakia really LOVED it. I told her that she can expect an order for a cake for his birthday every year from now on. I have also received birthday cakes made by Michelle for my last 3 birthdays - the 1st one was of a 2-D white baby tiger, the 2nd one was of Hello Kitty's head and this last one was of a red, white and blue Japanese dragon in honor of my Ameerican and Japanese heritage. Even the eyes were of my eye color (hazel) and the detail was totally outstanding! I have had nothing but wonderful cakes made by Michelle. Like Emily J said, she WILL work with you and it does not matter when the event is, she will accommodate you the best she can. I have 2 more cake orders that she will be filling for me - I can't wait to see what these Lavish Cakes & Catering creations will look like. :-)

Everyone was very impressed with the cake - all our guests loved the way it looked and the way it tasted. It is such a relief to have a bakery we can use for quality, attractive cakes at a very reasonable price. For our wedding, we wanted things very simple and that is again what we wanted for our baby shower. Lavish Cakes honored our wishes without any attempt to talk us into a 6-tier fondant covered monstrosity. Of course if that is what you want, I am sure they could make a gorgeous cake for you! We have found that a lot of bakeries don't want to work with folks who want simple, good cakes but that is not the case with Lavish Cakes & Catering. They are professional and high-quality.

They have gluten free options as well as vegan options and options for those who can have gluten. I went there for three out of the six days that I was on vacation in that area. I had originally wanted a chocolate chip cookie, but they didn't do just regular gluten free ones. However they did have gluten free peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. I'm not a big fan of peanut butter, but I thought I would try it since I was really craving a cookie. I had just the one, and it was so so so good! It didn't taste overly of peanut butter which was a win for me! It had just the right amount of peanut butter and chocolate chips. It was crispy around the edges and chewy towards the middle. I went back that same day and got two more of those cookies. The other days I went I got the same thing. One day, I did try their gluten free apple butter bar which was just as amazing! Service was fantastic! Each day I went, there was someone I hadn't seen before working. Each of them were super nice and friendly. The bakery itself had a very calm ambiance about it. It had a lot of space inside if you wanted to eat your meal or dessert inside or you could get it to go. I also love how Tough Cookie Bakery supports the LGBTQ+ community. There was a pride flag painted outside of the bakery, and that just made me love the place that much more! I would definitely recommend Tough Cookie Bakery in Bastrop. I can't wait to go back once we're back in the area at the end of this month.

The only letdown was finding out that the ice cream isn't homemade or unique to the shop--it's just Blue Bell. Now, as a lifelong Blue Bell fan, I'll never turn it down, but with a place that has so much originality and character, we were hoping for a menu that reflected that same spirit. Still, it's a cute spot and worth a visit for the atmosphere alone.

Cars zoom past like they're running away for their lives, but I risked my life for the giant squirrel statue sitting on the side of the road. What is this thing and what is the store attached to it? I had to see. Birthday weekend energy. Inside, the first thing that hits you is that massive pecan scented candle filling the whole store. They did this on purpose. It feels like a cozy Hallmark movie. The place smells delightful and that scent makes you want to buy something. Makes you ready to sample everything in sight. You deserve this. The store has everything: pecan pies, pecan candy, shelled/unshelled pecans, jams, jellies, hot sauces, toys, Texas branded/themed everything...you name it. It's all specialty, all cute, and all priced like it. I grabbed my niece two grenade-shaped hot sauces from "The General" brand because they were trendy and hilarious. But YIKES...Fifteen dollars each. Why, why, WHYYYYYYYY???? I gently reminded myself that Christmas is coming and delusion is part of the season. The staff was unbelievably friendly. They nudged you to sample this, try that, taste this. But beware because that southern hospitality will have you spending money you know you shouldn't or know you don't have. Once the total in my head started climbing, I called it and marched to the register before I got reckless. All in all, it's a fun little stop to stretch your legs, snack on some samples, and pick up something quirky. Pace yourself!
