My father moved into this facility just over a year ago. At that time the facility, people and food was amazing. If he had an issue they were quick to fix the problem. The staff was friendly and very approachable. Fast forward to today and it is a different matter. His room was not cleaned for over three weeks, the hallways have not been vacuumed, and dirty dishes have been left sitting on furniture in the hallways. When he goes to eat he is told that they are out of stuff all the time. No tea to drink, no bananas to eat and if he should ask for seconds he is told that if they give it to him they will not have enough to feed the people in memory care. For the amount of money he is paying to stay here this is completely unacceptable! We have been told that it is all due to staff being let go and that they are never out of food or drinks. Where is management? If they don't have the people to clean then why are they not helping? Why are they not in the dinning room talking to the residents and seeing what they are getting to eat or what is out? We will be moving my dad out of this facility just as soon as we can. read more

My mom, so far loves it at Bonaventure of Salem. She's been there since September and made new friends and activities which she wouldn't have sitting in her empty house. Is everything perfect no, but it's really hard to please everyone's needs and tastes. Mom is in independent living and doesn't need care like on the assisted living side, so maybe that's where the issues lie with some reviewers, but where she's at there seems to be a lot of happy residents. When it comes to assisted living facilities and nursing homes pretty much across the board, they receive poor marks because the expectations of family members often are greater than reality. In addition difficulty in staffing can contribute to inconsistent care at any senior care facility. On our first visit, we met with the Director Kelley who was upfront and straightforward on amenities and costs. She helped us secure one of the units we wanted downstairs and worked with us on our move-in timeline. She is friendly, welcoming, and cares about her residents. The facility is extremely clean, hell I would say beautiful in regards to the lobby, library, Café, and front desk area. The hallways are clean and well decorated. All in all, we are happy with the experience at Bonaventure. read more

My family did not select this location for our parent. It looks great and there are a number of bells and whistles, but our parent needed a safe, caring, and attentive environment and we did not get that vibe. After our visit we did our research using Oregon's Dept of Human Services website for Aging and People with Disabilities to view Inspection reports, view violations and corrections, and other compliance notices. Since this type of information is ever changing, I will not share findings for the time that applies to our visit. Be sure and ask this particular facility about their policy when it comes to residents who may need to rely on Medicaid once their funds are spent down. read more

If I could give no stars I would. My parents moved to Bon aventure Keizer just after opened a few years ago. The glitz and show attracted them but the management and service began deteriorating as quickly as the building was constructed. Poor food, repeated mismanagement of medications, lack of staff, and frequent turn over of both staff and management. After giving them way to many chances to make things right we had to move them fir their own safety ( and our sanity). When we left they finally replaced their living room shade that had been destroyed 6 months prior by an angry resident who burst in to their room( it was left unlocked by staff), they still had a cockroach issue which had been reported numerous times in the month prior and ​wasn't taken seriously. In fact the new facility couldn't move their furnishings because of the infestation! My parents paid a premium to stay in this facility and endured the worst care ever. When we signed up (5000 sign up fee) we thought this would be their final home....it almost was due to insufficient care. Glad we got out! read more

This place is AWFUL. They lie to prospective residents after harassing and exploiting them to get them in the building. They literally stalk prospective residents by finding their information on the web after being told the prospective resident doesn't want to supply all their information. They make staff show up at their houses unannounced! They promise five-star dining, but the food is literally frozen pre-made foods from Sysco. Not a single item is made from scratch. Nothing. Housekeeping is a joke because they fully expect two people to clean 150+ suites in a 40-hour week, complete with laundry. Ask the current residents what they think about the food, housekeeping, staff, etc. - not the residents that management points you toward, but others wandering around. read more

This is a terrible place to send your loved elderly people. They are not transparent about rates, and they would increase the rent every year at an unexplainable rate. The first year the rent increased, and the second year the rent increase is three times that amount..and we are not getting any explanation. My mother in law in the mean time is stressing out about rent, and having the feeling that The Bonaventure is taking advantage of her. In addition the food is not that appetizing and cheap meals get served regularly like nachos for instance. They have plenty of vacancies, and it seems that their way to make a profit is by ripping people of who are already staying there. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. read more

The food is subpar, I usually visit Mother there 4 or 5 times a week. I have yet to see salad that I would eat. Usually prepared with wilted greens or even greens that are already turning yellow and slimmy. The meat is always processed and horrible. Most days the food is served cold and not eatable. Dishes are either overcooked to taste like cardboard, or under-cooked and not even chew-able. I tried what they were calling chicken fried steak (I guess thats what it was supposed to be) and it was the cheapest version of breaded mystery meat you can buy frozen at any grocery store. One night they served cabbage and sausage... Except the sausage on one slice of kielbasa, less than 1" think. And that wasn't just Mom's serving, I was sitting with her in the dining room and everyone's plate was the same. This was the entree! Over this past weekend Mom needed help during the middle of the night, she waited 2 HOURS for an aide to show up. There was something wrong with her catheter and urine was leaking into her bed. When an aide finally showed up (2 hours later) she told Mom the call system must be broken because she didn't get the call. I know for a fact it is not broken, these people have pagers and the light goes on in the hallway as well at the station where I suspect the aide was sleeping... She actually told Mom to blame it on a broken call system. The night staff is not trained well and have no regard for human decency. A staff member left Mom's catheter incorrectly attached to the bag, again! This leaked urine into her bed, the aide who responded to her request for help did not bother to change the bed linens, but rather put a blanket over the wet spot and then wanted to put my Mother back into a urine soaked bad! She refused thankfully, but she ended up sleeping in a chair! Mom has congestive heart failure, meaning when her feet are on the floor her heart is not working well enough to pump the blood from her feet, they turn PURPLE AND SWELL. Things like this seem to be the standard for this hell hole. I have walked into Mom's room to find the toilet not cleaned for more than a week, her catheter bag (which is for collecting urine) just sitting in the sink preventing visitors or anyone from washing their hands, all her trash cans left in the bathroom where she can't get to them, her hospital bed seems to be moved every day for some reason, the electrical plugs in the room are worn out and her oxygen generator on the regular is unplugged and half sticking out of the wall. By the way, the prongs of the plug are now bent and probably an electrical hazard. My list of complaints for this place goes on. Staff turnover is the worst I have ever seen, and they just promoted the receptionist to the position of director of the facility... The treatment and quality of life offered by Bonaventure is senior abuse, there is no other way to put it. If you have family looking for a place to retire... THIS IS NOT IT. read more

It is a very sad state of affairs when Bonaventure of Gresham cares more about money than the residents. They are understaffed and the facility is dirty because of it. Residents are neglected. Complaints go unresolved. The staff is awesome and doing their best but "corporate" is only concerned with the almighty dollar and making a profit. My mom moved into Independent Living at Bonaventure Retirement Community in Salem. The staff and other residents have been very welcoming and helpful to us. We like how in the dining room you can order the meal of the day or any other thing on the menu. There is also a small coffee shop/bar on site that also offers food for purchase. We would recommend this community to others read more

I wouldn't recommend this place. They only want your money. The directors running this place are very rude to family members and to the loved ones in there. They want your "PLAN" signed and your money. They will retaliate on your loved one until done. They make faults statements about anyone who can see through their aweful business and care practices. I just spent ten days visiting my aunt who is living in Bonaventure assisted living. I was appalled!!!!!!! The food was always delivered COLD and was prison quality, or worse, garbage! If you decide to live there you better like cold rice, because it is on the menu everyday! The staff changes quickly, I was only there ten days and there was always new faces. I do have to say the staff that delivered the food was friendly for the short time they were there. The housekeeping service leaves much to be desired. For $5,000.00 plus per month these people are thieves! It quickly becomes very obvious that this company is all about the money PERIOD! All beautiful on the outside with promises of great living conditions on the inside, until they lure you in. Once in watch out!! After reading reviews on their web-site from present and former employees it is all validated right there! Notice an employee will give a negative review and following will be some glowing reviews from employees. Ha! The glowing reviews are bogus! I was there!!!! I saw for myself! Please do not place your loved one in this facility! It's all about their bottom line, they do not care one bit about their employees or their residents. This company is shameful!!! I hope someday they get to enjoy the treatment and so called food, they are giving to their employees and residents. Just looking at the food makes you want to throw up! I would not recommend Bonaventure of Salem retirement living community. The upper management is evasive, untrustworthy, and does not follow through with commitments. My mother lived there for less than a year before moving to a different retirement community. She recently attempted to collect her mail and was told 1) they didn't have it, and then was told 2) they didn't know where it was. When my mother contacted the corporate headquarters and told them she was going to get an attorney, amazingly, Bonaventure found her mail! The staff at Bonaventure are committed and kind, but overworked. Unfortunately, all administrative dealings or billing questions are handled through the executive director, and he is unprofessional and unreliable. read more

A beautiful facility, but it goes downhill from there. There are a few employees that truly care about the residents, but many more who don't. Management's primary focus is making money so they don't hire enough staff to provide adequate care for the residents. Seniors with mobility issues can be left for hours unattended. The food is unimpressive, clothes and personal items go missing. Some caregivers don't even provide privacy when changing a residents clothing or diaper! The prior review is correct. Bonaventure is the WORST assisted living facility, period! Whatever you do, look anyplace other than Bonaventure. You will regret ever walking in their doors. It is all show and once they collect your $5000 just to get in the door you are no longer important. That is not a typo, yes, they charge you $5000 just to live there in addition to thousands of dollars per month. Their food services are pathetic and awful. The dining room service is terrible. They are always understaffed and have a constant turnover in staff throughout the facility. In one year they have gone through 3 executive directors, 4 resident care coordinators, several activity directors and marketing directors and had a multitude of care givers. The caregivers and med aides and others aren't well trained and exhibit their frustrations about working at Bonaventure to the residents. The management is dishonest, untrustworthy, and the majority of people who work there are only there to collect a paycheck, not because they care about elderly people who need assistance. Unless you want to spend a lot of money for nothing, go elsewhere. There are a number of better places.
