This was the first of several tours for the day so just had a quick bite of toast and fruit with coffee. The tour was mostly just a walk through the building and viewing a couple rooms. Then shown the bar and coffee service area. No real explanation of what was offered or why we should choose them. A bag with a brochure and info was on a table for us that we got AFTER the tour and the gal never went over anything with us. By the end of the day we ruled them out due to what we understood were the benefits and the cost compared to the same with other communities. Bonaventure has a lot of bells and whistles but they also had a higher cost. Don't forget when you are looking for an assisted living place that you will also have to pay for a care plan. We found no cap to theirs. Also consider if your loved one may eventually end up on Medicare should personal funding exhaust. I don't believe Bonaventure accepts Medicare so your loved one would have to go elsewhere and then you might find yourself in a pickle. Do your research and ask questions about care plans, community buy-in and Medicare etc.

Fortunately, in Bonaventure (south), the crisis had a happy ending. The staff are kind and caring...the activities are meaningful and fun....my parents were always treated with respect....and, above all, it was a safe environment I could trust. After several years' living there, both Mother (aged 88) and Dad (aged 95) have now passed away. But they both told me how happy they were, and how much they appreciated the good people who work there.

I had the pleasure of being invited to a New Years Eve Lunch at Madrona Hills in Salem, Oregon…read moretoday and I was much impressed with the warmth and professionalism of the staff, from our arrival, throughout our meal, and up on our departure. The facility is very clean, state covid protocols are being followed by guest and employees. Having been a resident of a close by, sister, facility for over a year now, I found it difficult to believe that Madrona Hills and the facility that I am a resident of, could both be a part of the same group of retirement facilities. At Madrona Hills I found the grounds were beautiful and well manicured, the dining room was warm, clean, and like being at a four star resort. Our servers made us feel as though we were the only clients in the dining room. The food was delightful. I recommend that if anyone is considering a move into a retirement facility in the Salem area, that you visit Madrona Hills before you make your final decision. Unfortunately I made a decision after touring a nearby facility and falling in love with a beautiful lake and koi pond, only to realize after my move in, that what was being advertised as "all inclusive living" has fallen far short of what was presented at the Signing of the rental contract. If I were to have it all to do over again I would not hesitate to make Madrona Hills my home. I have seen many clients move into the facility that I am currently residing at, only to wish a short time later that they had not sold their home, their cars, and things that they had worked their whole lives for, so that they could have a "carefree life", only to realize that they are stuck as they can not afford to move to a different place. Moving into a retirement facility is a big decision and it could be a wonderful experience, but it also can be a very expensive mistake. Please take time to visit Madrona Hills, meet their staff, enjoy a wonderful meal and feel the warmth that is found within.
