Next door to Korova, this is the place to hear awesome and not so great local metal. The only bad thing is if you wanna order a drink, you will have to raise your voice because the music here is FREAKING LOUD!!!!!!! But since Bond's has the name Rock Bar, it does play rock so don't expect any classical or easy listening music to be played here! read more

Pretty cool place, lots of room when its not busy but when its busy it can get kind of narrow to get around. The upstairs area is especially cool, they have a main stage with a good PA system that won't leave your ears bleeding. Definitely a Metal Bar. Relaxed people in a hardcore atmosphere with great drink specials. My party sat down with a few drinks and ogled the Metal memorabilia on the walls, and as I looked up I saw a demon baby staring down at me. A DEMON BABY! I really enjoyed this bar. Its not a typical bar you'd find just anywhere and my case my friend and I just so happen to stumble on it one night. Its a really chill laid back bar with your jukebox radio to play your favorite classic rock hits, shoot some pool and knock back some cheap good beer/drinks. I'm from cali and if I can compare this to one of my favorite bars back home it would be "The Anarchy Library Bar" while being here I got to meet really awesome people and have some have toasts for platonic love. After being disappointed by Zombie's bar with the cringe Karaoke. We hit this place up. Now my love in music is hardstyle and progressive trance, and gothic-industrial, BUT I like alternative rock and have always loved symphonic metal. I just hated all the screaming in metal so was never really into it and please don't kill me, but I have always thought Metallica was overrated although some of their songs are good. So I have never mostly been a fan of metal which is hypocritical because my music is basically screaming bass instead of screaming lol, but I have lately been delving into the different genres of metal. They had two screaming bands last night and fucking absolutely killed it. I apologize for not knowing their names, but they were local. The downstairs were playing cover songs. They were talented and very cute. The crowd is diverse, but definitely all rockers, metalheads, punk style, mohawks, gauges, but I didn't feel out of place because everyone was very nice and they're there for the music. We stayed a bit downstairs then we went upstairs. Oh! There is no cover downstairs, but cover for upstairs, but I want to shout out to the sweet doorman who only charged us the fee once So the upstairs was more intimate. I honestly think it was mostly more family and friends related to the band. But this band was just wow. There was lotsa screaming But this guy could sing and they had a great beat to their music so I was definitely really into it. I have had vertigo last year so I am a bit afraid to move my head too much, but I wanted to headbang so bad lol!!! And the main singer he was headbanging, flipping that gorgeous long curly hair shit I am jealous he has better hair than me lol! He was just very into it, great energy and they put on a great show. I agree with Tricia here, I am not sure why it's named Bond's 007 if there's no Bond's theme inside but that aside, this was a pretty cool spot downtown. The beers are big. BIG if you get 'em on draft and ice cold, which is always a huge plus. Nothing too fancy, nothing too expensive and you can take Jager shots out of an ice luge, which is always a klassy touch to an evening! The bartender was super friendly. The patrons were just hanging out. I feel like it is the kind of place that can get rowdy, but it definitely wasn't rowdy at all the night I was in (a Thursday about 10pm). What I thought was super cool was the music, from a jukebox and the night I was in we were listening to a bunch of old Johnny Cash and the like, which I love. You can play pool or darts or other bar games, you can hang out at the tables, jam at the jukebox, or just grab a stool by the bar like we did and chat up the bartenders. Oh and one more thing. The bathrooms are super clean. I was actually really impressed to find such nice bathrooms in a bar like this. I find myself here quite often. The hubby plays here alot. I love the atmosphere, it is totally rock and roll and loud. Don't expect to have any conversations and you voice to be strained. I haven't spent much time in the downstairs bar other than ordering something on draft. The layout seems to flow and the decor is way interesting. I spend most most of my time upstairs in the stage area. I myself haven't had much luck on drinks. I had a draft of shocktop previously and was pretty sure another beer was infused in there. This last time around my husband ordered me some sort of girly drink that was made up of cherry syrup and not much of anything else. I suggest sticking with bottled beer. read more

They even have live bands sometimes. There's always a drink special, or even the big-ass mug is a deal in itself. As a gal who's enjoyed San Antonio's music scene for years, it pains me to give one of the few thriving venues left anything but a five-star rating. But after some questionable beer and some "meh" service, I can't give it any more. My husband had a show here recently and we all got there about an hour early to set up upstairs. The bar upstairs doesn't have Shocktop on draft so the band went downstairs to get us some beer. Now I know my Shocktop and what was served to us was either a very old keg or a mix of Shocktop and another beer. It tasted skunky and smelled funky! My girlfriend ordered a Sour Cherry Vodka and she said it was gross but I wouldn't think a rock bar would master the ultimate chick drink so I didn't ding them for that. Again, because this is a rock bar, I didn't expect white glove service but these dudes were flat out rude sometimes. I felt like I was at Dicks minus the over-priced food. As long as you just come for the music and pool, Bonds is a pretty cool place to either headbang or chill. I'd recommend ordering something the bartenders won't screw up (aka Miller Lite in a bottle) and be willing to back-sass the staff. read more
