We had a fantastic time at El Luchador (wrestler). It looked a bit scary when we arrived at night to our AirBNB across the street. But cheap drinks and great music! The bartender was so nice and DJ catered to our interests. A lesson in not judging a book by its cover! Had great ratings and we understand why not that we went. Will be back before leaving San Antonio.

My wife and I were in San Antonio for a conference and decided to stay a few extra days in the area. We stumbled upon El Luchador Bar and ended up coming back three nights in a row--and we're a bit on the square side! Each night had a different theme, and the vibe was always welcoming and fun. The bartenders were friendly, the drinks were solid, and the crowd was lively but never overwhelming. Whether you're looking for a casual drink, a fun conversation, or just a unique spot to unwind, El Luchador delivers. Even if you're not typically a dive bar person, step in, grab a drink, and enjoy the atmosphere. It's definitely worth the visit!

I did not try the food, but the service was great. Mostly the atmosphere is very interesting with the luchador memorabilia! I expected it to be a Latino bar but rock music was playing.

Fun bar close to downtown. Music got the group up and dancing and atmosphere was very cultural. i had a top shelf margarita which was well made and smooth. service was great and lots of seating. i would come back here to hang out.

Been by this place a few times and had on my list for awhile. Came on Thursday, August 7 with a friend. This is my type of place that you could grab a drink in the middle of the day to forget about the sunny heat outside. The bartender was sweet and got us a $6 combo of Lone Star with a house bourbon. Found a table near the dance floor and watched wrestling on the big screen as the band, Lonestar *something*, set up. Enjoyed watching the craziness of wrestling that I have not seen since the 7th grade. Then the band started up with George Straight. Thought it was going to be all country until they started Dave Matthew's Band, "So Much to Say". The 3-piece was solid and the guitarist broke his string early in the song, but still was a great cover. Glad to hear live music again! If in the area and looking for a local watering hole, then check this place out.

As one of San Antonio's only truly themed bars El Luchador is a must for any fan of Luchadors, Lucha Libre or wrestling! The wall of masks is an awesome centerpiece! They make no qualms about being south of Southtown and a true neighborhood dive bar in the best kind of way. I love it so much I did an episode on them for my podcast! Go listen to the story of how they got started! Cold beer, some craft cocktails and excellent beer/shot combos for the boozer on a budget. Always friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. El Luchador is a must anytime in SA or if you find yourself well - south of Southtown!

What a cool place! Brought back so many memories of my youth with all of wrestling paraphernalia around. The bartender and staff as well as the customers we met were super friendly! We will be back!

I remember hearing about El Luchador Bar through the grapevine awhile back. And a Mexican Wrestling themed place in the city seemed like a novel and original idea. Lucha Libre is campy anyway, so by default it would fit perfectly in the already colorful Southside. Needless to say like a chair to my back it pains me to say my experience here was underwhelming. Firstly, depending on the time you come here parking can a bit hairy. There's parking across the street but it would be better if they organized the lot to maximize space. Before I even enter a business I mentally pull out my checklist. Cool neon "El Luchador" sign in the front. Check. Bar walls with Mexican Wrestling masks. Check. The theme of Lucha Libre is throughout the place via a huge Mil Mascaras mural and glass display cases with plastic luchadores. Check. So what could've possibly been missing from my experience? I feel that the place was lacking a cohesive vibe or personal touch. This begins at the door, the bar, by staff and the layout of the place. Since the entrance leads you into the traffic of the bar it feels like you're caught against a turnbuckle, so to speak. The result is a scene that seems busy and frenzied. As far as their bar, which is the centerpiece of the place I wish there were prominent visuals to display what is being served. Other than a card with their drink selection written in small print, I resorted to the guessing game. I did settle on a beer served in a can, but I would've preferred it on tap. The scene is a mixed bag of professionals, bike riding hipsters, fashionistas and curious neighborhood locals. Unfortunately for me that night I got caught in the midst of a "Man Bun- Cobra Clutch!"; with some dude who had no concept of personal space. After awhile I had to go onto their patio, as it was getting way too claustrophobic inside. While I do appreciate what "El Luchador Bar" is trying to accomplish it feels like a cohesive vibe is still missing. Is it a bar that happens to have a luchador concept or is it the other way around? In other words if I took away the lucha libre theme would it still be a cool place to hangout? I'm not sure. But then again you're either a mask away from being "Blue Demon" or "Nacho Libre"...

Happy hour at this place is the best as they have great combos! They also have a great drink called the preparada that's built like a fruit cup (plus) with alcohol (big plus) they also have some candy and a straw with Lucas! This is the best drink for hot days. They now have bingo nights (Loteria)! I recently won a Luchador shirt and it's awesome and comfortable. Perfect selection of beers too try the craft beer beers such as four corners! You're guaranteed to love these beers and the whole place! Parking is right next to bar and they often have people cooking sausage wraps, elote and turkey legs next to the place as well.

I've visited Luchador three times, but this is the first review. I LOVE the look and feel this little bar. Every time I leave, I feel like going home to watch Nacho Libre. I wish the location were closer to my house, but I can't knock them for that. Each time I've visited, there has been a different bartender, so I haven't been able to build a rapport or much of a relationship with any single bartender yet. I started going because of their Loteria Game night (held every other Tuesday), and now it's a standing appointment on my calendar. One tabla per person, and it's free to play. Prizes include Luchador Bar T-shirts, tickets to local events, a few bucks off your bar tab, etc. Their beer selection is pretty impressive for a smaller bar. Lots of craft beers, but definitely more IPAs and Crapft beers than my preferred stouts and porters. All in all, El Luchador is a low key way to relax after a busy day at work.

Cool little spot in southtown. Definately a dive bar. Bartender was very nice. Not a lot of people were there. Tons of cool luchador are and ambiance. Place is big enough for large groups and friendly gatherings.

Fantastic dive bar. The Friday night I went there to meet with my friends. They had a burlesque show, so there was a $5 covercharge, which I'm not a huge fan of, I understand why they charged it, but I wasn't there for the burlesque and I did ordered drinks. But it's no big deal. The bar itself is pretty small, so most of the people were hanging out in the back patio. There is a dance floor with a DJ. Overall, if I had more time next time I'm in town, I would love to spend more time here.

Man this is a fun bar! We were in the area and happened to accidentally find this bar. There was a $5 cover because there was a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band (and other bands) playing that night. Once inside- our group took advantage of the cheap beer/shot combos. $5.50 for a tallboy lone star, or tecate (maybe other options but I don't remember) and a shot of whiskey or tequila. The bar was very full but everyone was nice and we were able to wrangle up a few stray chairs for our group to sit. They also had an outdoor area that had an art vendor out there for a little bit. The music was great, drink specials on point, the bartender took great care of us, and I loved the theme. What a great little local bar with huge personality.

    Nice selection of beer.

This intimate, goth-inspired bar wraps you in a sultry red glow, making it feel like you've stepped into another dimension. The drinks? Hauntingly creative, just like the vibe. The service? Almost mystical--like they know exactly what you need before you do witchcraft, perhaps? Ha! With a soundtrack straight out of a dream--from The Smiths to New Order to The Cure, to Bauhaus; every sip feels like a scene from a moody music video. But beware: this spot is small and fills up fast. If you want to soak in the atmosphere without the crush of a crowd, come early. Then again, a little waiting is worth it when the vibe is this good. So it was difficult to get a drink or their attention for another drink. Ambiance - It's a small bar, although it fits the name, it's difficult to navigate the small corridor to the bathroom. So unless you're planted at the bar with a good seat, it's best not to move because you'll be tripping on other peoples legs to get to the bathroom. But other than that, it's a very punk bar with good music and dim lights, something very chill and cozy that everyone can enjoy. I did enjoy the vibe this bar provided, and I think everyone should visit it, I hope it expands and grows because it has a lot of potential.

Earlier in the day I took a walk through the King William neighborhood and stumbled on this beautiful old house with an inviting vibe. We were so glad we came back for dinner. We were a group of five with a reservation and from start to finish the experience was excellent. Our server, Raymond, was personable, friendly, and genuinely great at his job. He gave thoughtful recommendations and made the evening feel relaxed and welcoming. We started by sharing several dishes, all of which were spot on: Pears and Greens salad with lardons, frisée, arugula, radicchio, endive, Danish blue, and bacon vin - $16. Fresh, balanced, and perfect for sharing. Crispy Brussels Sprouts with maple, herbs, pecans, and cotija - $10. Crispy, flavorful, and addictive. Mac and Cheese - $12. Rich, comforting, and well executed. For mains, Raymond steered us in all the right directions: Mustard Glazed Faroe Island Salmon with warm fingerling potatoes, parsnips, mushrooms, frisée, and herb oil - $30. Beautifully cooked and flavorful. Tomatillo Shrimp with grilled Gulf shrimp, white cheddar grit cake, and tomatillo butter - $28. Bold and delicious. Loretta Burger with crispy prosciutto, manchego, arugula, tomato, grilled red onion, and smash sauce on a brioche bun. Choice of fries or tots - $18 (some had tots, and one had fries - tasty). Absolutely nailed it. Queso Fundido Burger with fried chorizo-queso blanco, charred poblano, and cactus salsa verde. Choice of fries or tots - $20. Indulgent in the best way. My dining companions enjoyed a variety of wonderfully prepared cocktails while I stuck with a Topo Chico. I still felt right at home.
