I love this bar and had not been in years. When we were downtown visiting family and all of them had to put there kids to sleep, we decided to have one last drink and play some pool. Drinks are cheap, atmosphere is much better than anything on the Riverwalk, and the music was being DJ'd with flare. My son and I enjoyed some games of pool versus some local boys that made the night enjoyable, though their sticks are ultra light. Some fool said they like "gringo money" but dislike white people. I've been there multiple times during my stay in San Antonio and this is definitely not true. The owner and staff take great pride in the place. The art work is really interesting and it's always clean, inviting and pleasant. The service is great and not once have they been off. I enjoy a couple drinks and the music box is set at a nice volume for entertainment without making you deaf. All in all I recommend a visit for sure. read more

We discovered this place some time back while staying at the St. Anthony hotel right around the corner. This is a "River Rat" (as the service people affectionately refer to themselves) dive at it's best! You won't find a tourist at this joint. Drinks are STRONG and cheap, the people are great - we've made many friends during our visits here. I think it's the only place I can actually stand karaoke at. Vending machine with cigarette packs and snacks - both must haves for many drinkers. When someone orders a pizza it often becomes communal eats. The Texan II is the epitome of dive done right! God bless Texas! This place is a dive bar downtown. It's not a tourist bar, it seems to be mainly for people who work downtown in other bars and restaurants. It's really a local bar, with cheap and strong drinks. They have pool tables, dartboards, and a few other bar games to play, but little seating. The music is loud here, and you usually have to shout over the blaring 80's rock. I've heard that bars have found that people drink more the louder that the music gets- this place is really working that angle. They have an internet connected jukebox that cranks out the jams. They serve lots of beers, but don't have a long craft beer list. It's mainly Lone Star tallboys that people are drinking here. What more do you need? The bartenders are fast and efficient. They seem to know a lot of the regulars. They have several televisions in here, with sports on, usually. My main complaint is that the place has a funky smell to it. The bathrooms are pretty gross. Parking is difficult along here, but there's paid parking over by the Tobin Center. If you're on a bike, they let you take your bicycle inside. This isn't a bar for tourists. They don't serve wacky frozen margaritas, or have flashy glasses to put exotic drinks in. It's a place to get cheap booze and tallboys. Is this bar a sequel from another bar?! read more

You know you're in a good place when it's packed with regulars and has a funky smell to it. It may be a divey good place, but that's downtown living. The Texan II or The Texan Deuce as I kindheartedly call it is my place to go when I want to listen to obnoxiously loud music, become obnoxious and talk to a bunch of colorful hipsters with a great sense of style. Key favs include a pool table, dreadful karaoke, one stall bathrooms with ancient hand driers, stiff drinks, the most excellent bartenders and last but not least, the vending machine with snacks and cigarettes. This is a hidden gem in San Antonio. I just moved here and I love dive bars, and this is about as dive as it gets. The drinks are well priced, and they have a Jukebox with all the new songs on it. My first night in town, I decided to come over. The bartender was a guy with a beard and super nice and conversational, made me feel like I wasn't fresh off the boat here. No craft beers, but then again I hate craft beer, give me a PBR and a shot of Jameson and I'm on my way. Not sure about parking since I live down the street, but location is tucked away just enough so not too much foot traffic. Didn't see the vending machine with snacks and cigarettes but there is a little convenience store right on the corner. read more

Horrible service the bartender with the blue hair and tattoo across her chest ID me and my friends after we had already been there for 10 minutes as we came out of the bathroom she rudely asked and accused us of being under age when we were all over 21 we were going to purchase beverages but after being in there with her complaining self definitely not going back there or even suggesting it to my friends who visit. This is most definitely a dive bar, and I like it! It's laid back, the drinks are cheap and the bartenders are nice. They have a couple of TVs so you can watch the Spurs game, or you can play a game of pool or a game of darts. I'm going to agree with Eilla who said this bar isn't super smoky - I love that I am able to breathe in this bar and that I don't come out reeking of stale cigarettes at the end of the night. I'm sure people do smoke in here, but I've never seen it. The crowd is another great thing here - it's not swanky, it's not a meat market, it's not hipster. All you'll see is people who don't want to have to get dressed up to have a drink. I don't get to come here often but when I do I have fun! I love the internet juke box. This is a downtown dive that locals go to. They have drink specials almost everyday. And a few bar games for a little friendly competition! I look forward to making my pilgrimage to The Texan II, even if it is only a few times a year. Terrible, disgusting place. My friend cut their lip with a broken glass that was served to them. Bartenders did nothing to resolve the issue. They said "it's a bar, glasses break." Worst establishment. Smells like piss and the bar top/seats are sticky. Probably from all the piss. read more

Hmm I would rate a 0 stars but I cant. I came in this bar with the intentions to have a quick drink with my friends. We had been bar hopping so of course when we walked in the first stop was the restroom. When we had headed back to the bar we were immediately yelled at and told rudely that the restroom wasn't for public use. Understandable...but we were going to buy drinks. While looking at the drink specials the bartender with the washed out blue hair yelled at me and my girlfriend for our IDs in a disgusting manner. While we can clearly still hear her talking pretty loudly about us, she complains to the other customers at the bar that she has had a few underage people come in because of fiesta. I guess she assumed we were all under age. Sorry sweetie, but we all have a really good skin care routine. So she checks our IDs and I'm sure is shocked....YES you guessed it! We were all of age. I really hope she felt foolish. Even the "customers" were rude to us. We decided to leave because we felt unwanted. This place wasn't worth my time and money. I mean why would I give my money to some rude lady anyways. I am new to San Antonio and it was sad this was the impression of how the people are. Hopefully you wont get treated like scum when you come. Avoid the bartender with the blue hair. I would be ashamed if she was my employee driving my customers away with the horrible service and attitude. I've met more friendly people in German bars and those people don't even smile. This is not the place to hang out. The music is loud and you have to yell all night. The Bartender will not turn it down and just ignores you when you need a drink. They are Not friendly. The bathroom urinals do not flush and people pee on the walls. The cheep drink special do not overcome the BAD atmosphere. Don't waste your time with this locals dump. read more
