Staff at RecycleWorks are very helpful about what is acceptable. They take glass, plastic #1, #2 and #5. Tin cans, aluminum, and other metal (we dropped a cast iron pan with a broken handle and pieces of broken t-posts). Newspaper and other mixed paper. Check their website for hours! They are volunteers so hours are limited.

You can go through their online account cancellation process, but it just triggers an email saying you have to call in. I don't carry a phone anymore. Had to contact them FOUR TIMES to get account cancelled, and at that, they used the words "one time courtesy" to describe closing my account. The whole time, they continued to bill me. I had to send a demand notice to them to get my account closed and to stop billing. Don't bother with their online cancellation option - it won't work. Seriously wondering what kind of scam they're running. My advice is check out Apex Waste. One third the price.
