Never once asked if I needed help, even though I was walking around looking for someone to help me - they avoided me and all huddled up at the front check out with an some older women with gray hair just laughing away. Love Bonterra! Called ahead linking for Beyond Meat Burgers and they put them away for me so they would be there when I arrived. This area does not have many health food, vegan food, Whole Foods type stores. Although they where short on produce when I went there, as was EVERYONE, I still was able to get what I needed. The mother of one of my dearest friends died and he was preparing for the memorial service that weekend. I wanted to be supportive and decided to have groceries sent to the house. This way, there would be comfort and perhaps some ease. I called the market a few minutes after closing. A woman picked up and was very helpful and patient with answering questions. The next day I placed an order for delivery. Some foodstuffs were out of stock. She graciously called me and offered similar items to substitute and assured me that all would be delivered on time. Worst service ever! I have been in this market many, many times and love the variety, cleanliness and location. But the last three times I have been there, the cashier has been rude, uninformed and disinterested to say the least. A simple response like, "I don't know let me check" would be worth her weight in go,d but no. The response to my inquiry -on three separate occasions, was more like -how do I know ? Or I have no idea and last time- paleo? What's that? Luckily I research my products before I purchase but sometimes I'd like to know if I overlooked an item or if it's out of stock. Seriously. This store is amazing!!!! It really met our families needs. They had everything we needed, from gluten free to great vegan options. They have plenty of no vegan options too... The store itself is very clean and attractive. They do have a nice selection of products, probably better than most health food markets going all the way up to Monmouth County. They sell bulk herbs, as well, which is not an easy find. Two stars because their prices really are outrageous. I don't usually balk at this, because I expect pay more in a smaller organic store. When someone else says a health food store is expensive, it never deters me from visiting. But the mark-ups here are much higher than Whole Foods. I feel like the owners take advantage of the fact that they're the only game in town. Also, staff is not friendly at all. I'd rather get my basic organics (dairy/meats/produce) from any other supermarket, buy more specific items (supplements, herbs, etc.) online and take a bi-monthly trip to WF for everything else. A great word for the Bonterra Market is DEAF EARS, or maybe.. PISS POOR. The little to none produce is organic, but you really wouldn't think so. By the time it arrives at Bonterra, it's mush and mostly spoiled food, yet, still charging high prices for organics. Inventory is also horrible here and is never re-stocked. When you do ask for things or suggest things, you fall on DEAF EARS here. The employees are 20 something renegades that could give 2 shits what you just said, they just act like they are paying attention and go back to whatever they are doing. Things are sold and never return here. Bonterra also forces you to keep $100.00 worth of receipts before you can be recognized as a "valued member". How retarded and stupid. In all aspects, I am forced here because it's the only place that has some organic vegetables, but even then they are saturated and soggy and swimming in water when you get them back to your home. I'm giving this place two stars mainly because our cashier was a doll. Other than that, it sadly wasn't worth the 30 minute drive it took to get here. I'm new to the area. Living South of Egg Harbor Township. I came from a town that had endless amounts of Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Wegman's within 10 minutes of each other. It was grand. I've been on the search (and praying something of the sorts opens around this neck of the woods!) for anything remotely close. After a Yelp search or two or three, I came to find this little joint. I thought, what the heck! I'll give it a go (and the drive!) if it's a Trader Joe's-esque place. Because 30 minutes is better than an hour. Obviously. So we (my 1 year old daughter and I) showed up and the shopping center was small and the parking lot was even smaller. As soon as we walked in I got a sense of Trader Joes. However, a lot smaller! A whole lot. I browsed around a bit felt completely underwhelmed. There wasn't a ton of stuff that jumped out at me. And the prices, oh my gosh, the prices. Everything was very expensive. And I am by no ways cheap when it comes to paying for good, healthy food. However, nothing seemed worth the price. Note: the women in front of me in line had a bag of grapes. They rang up $15! For.A.Bag.Of.Grapes? Get out of town. Needless to say, the lady didn't buy them. I'm pretty sure no one would spend $15 on a bag of grapes. Anyway. I continued to look around for something. But nothing really stood out. The place was very clean. It was neatly organized. There are plenty of health food options. You're not going to find a bag of Doritos here. They also have a great amount of gluten free options. Frozen and dry products. I ended up taking home 2 Odwalla bars, sparkling water and a bag of snap peas. Very uneventful. Used to frequent Bonterra's but kind of fell away from it. Not anyone's fault at all-just not out that way as often. Well today I went to Bonterra's and found they are under new management (I don't know anything about ownership status- just management ). I did notice some things looked different and I like the new look. I was just pricing a product for my dog that our vet suggested. I explained to the woman (Heather- who is the new manager) I was only pricing today and she was still super helpful. Didn't put me off cause I wasn't purchasing. When I got to the register with my one rutabaga I had the pleasure of being waited on by an "old friend " Jen from the Animal House in Absecon. That was a terrific surprise. The staff (especially the lovely Jen) are always very pleasant and helpful. I had forgotten how much I like Bonterra's. I will absolutely return for my pup's med and to check out the changes. I am this market practically every day. I've never seen any of their produce less than fresh so I don't understand the review about that. I buy a nearly everything I eat here and only shop at nearby Shop-Rite when they have a few things on sale that I usually buy at Bonterra (like Kombucha, Gluten-Free pasta, and tomato sauce). Bonterra has a nice variety of cheeses (including raw cheese) and I've noticed they have recently added a few more kinds. They have a Fig Goat Cheese that is out of this world. If you are dairy-free, you will find everything you need here including all kinds of DF Milk: coconut, almond, rice, and even coconut/almond blends. Tons of Kombucha varieties- some that I haven't found in other places. If you have pets, they have a great selection of quality organic/grain-free products. There is also a Health & Beauty Aid section with vitamins, lotions, soaps, hair care products, and even make-up. I'll wrap up by defending my favorite cashier that another reviewer bashed for being too fast. Who doesn't want a fast cashier? I don't know about her, but when I'm at Bonterra it's usually right after work and I want to get home to eat and relax. I'm disappointed when I DON'T see the fast male cashier. I have been shopping here for over 3 years now. If you want their preferred customer status, you must provide $100 worth of receipts then spend $200 per month to maintain that status. It's a great idea to keep your receipts & get this status because the discounts are worth it. Myself and my hubby are vegan so we were elated to find a place with sprouts and a variety of organic produce, vitamin supplements and other truely natural products. The pricing is good for some things & pricey for others. But you either pay the farmer or pay the doctor. I do a ton of research before I buy anything so if you keep your eyes peeled, you can find great deals here. I don't mind paying more for some items, like braggs acv or vegan protein powders, since overall it's good quality stuff for a reasonable price. I figure I'd spend the money on shipping or travel anyway. In the past, I gave this place 3 stars due to having 2 back to back issues with poor customer service but I must say they have stepped up there game so I am revising & giving them their well deserved 5 stars. Great products however extremely overpriced. I visited the store on Saturday with my husband. Upon entering we felt an uncomfortable pretentious attitude coming from all staff members. No one greeted us, no one made eye contact and no one smiled. The store was empty and we had a hard time finding things. I'm grateful to have this shopping option. Due to the nature of it's small size, they are not able to continue to carry products you grow to love from time to time. Some items like the Siete Almond Wraps, you can find much cheaper at Walmart around the corner. Their produce section showers water down on items like coconuts sealed in plastic causing them to mold. It is hit or miss on being able to get items in both produce and dry goods... such as daikon, ginger, yogurt, almond milk brand you prefer, organic ice cream, baking ingredients, etc. Again, it is due to the small space -as they do bring in new items for customers to try routinely. Sometimes I have found the produce lacking in freshness which could be because organic produce may still be lacking popularity in this area. I often opt to drive 2 hours away to Whole Foods in Marlton for the freshness, affordable prices, and consistency. Bonterra Market is a life-saver in the area for those with special dietary needs and health concerns. However, expect to pay higher prices and often be disappointed if you have a set plan for a recipe. Eating in season is ideal for health and when certain items are in their season, I would love to depend on getting them here. Items such as organic Escarole. It's understandable that these kinds of organic items might be hard to come by. I'm hoping more people invest in the organic eating lifestyle. read more

The selection of product is above and beyond what I expected when I walked into the store. The customer service was superb. Throughout the store the staff on the floor were helpful and really seemed to want to make sure I was finding everything I needed. I love this little market! While it may not have the selection that you can get at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, guess what? We don't have those big stores in this area and Bonterras still meets out needs. I find them to be very friendly and accommodating. Their hygiene rules during Covid were impeccable! No comparison to other stores. I always felt safe. Their home-made specialties are amazing. I get my water there every week and am grateful for the option they provide for high quality filtered water (reverse osmosis?) for $.49 a gallon. I just bring my own jugs. I will forever come here for groceries as long as I live in the area. The produce is always fresh and they have a great selection of different organic brands with different price ranges. This place really helps me be a healthy vegetarian. They have everything you would ever need to live a healthy meat free life, which is what really got me coming here in the first place. Today, I was so pleased to find a coffee/tea bar, with a very reasonably priced $1 organic Jim's coffee with almond milk that I could drink while shopping! My review is based mostly on the customer service, I wanted to post a 2-star review but because of their selection it goes to 3. I go in here many times happy to be picking up some nice food but end up leaving puzzled as to why the service is so poor. I was recently there and two cashiers were having a conversation at the register since hardly anyone was in the store, okay no problem. I come up to check out and say hi. They don't acknowledge that at all and keep on carrying on the conversation while starting to check-out items. Half-way through the check-out after their conversation dies down one of them utters an obligatory greeting, which was the extent of the interaction lol. Really? I mean I get it, you're working retail, you probably don't want to. But have some courtesy for those who are supporting the store you are employed at. Honestly I get better customer service from Walmart even when it's slamming busy vs. this place when there's literally no one in the check-out line.
