This place has all the Asian products and a large amount of Spanish/hispanic products available. You can find everything from produce to seafood to everyday kitchen staples. First time I have ever been to this market and I must say that it is really quite a shame that the place is so poorly maintained as far as cleanliness. I would never buy anything from the seafood and meat department as it was not clean and certainly had an off putting odor. Not sure how well the refrigeration system was working and it was evident that there needed to be more ice on the whole fish that were on display. Cloudy fish eyes tell you that they ain't fresh. Floor is dirty and wet in areas so watch your step. Frozen section is chock full of various and unusual items that you can't find in your traditional supermarket. As someone who's spent the past 3 years living in a city with very little variety of Asian ingredients, this supermarket has everything I need and so much more which is why I'm giving it 5 stars! Is it the nicest Asian supermarket I've been to, definitely not, but I'm here for the stuff I can get and not the ambiance. It's located near several Asian restaurants, a bakery, boba shop & Taco Bell in the Pleasantville Shopping Center strip mall. Parking is plentiful & they take credit cards. I came to get a variety of sauces for Lao, Thai, & Vietnamese dishes & I was not disappointed with the selection! I got a Korean spicy Buldak sauce, fish, kho, soy & oyster sauce as well. For fresh produce, I got Thai chilis, ginger, & cilantro. There was also a butcher with a wide selection of cuts of meat in addition to frozen & fresh items. Service is nonexistent unless you seek it out. The cashier didn't say a word when I checked out, which is the norm for a lot of Asian grocery stores I've been to. read more

First time visiting the Asia Supermarket today in Pleasantville. First off, we were able to find everything we were looking for. The store stocks a lot of merchandise. Certainly unique to our area and is an obvious go-to for items you won't find at your local grocery store. That being said, the store could use some cleaning and I'm not sure some of the butchering I saw being done was legit. Huge Asian supermarket with various goodies from all over Asia. One of the few Asian markets in the area as well. Although not the best pricing on Asian groceries but there's not much competition in the area. There's a slight smell from all the fresh seafood areas but it's still clean. I smell the same thing when I go to whole foods so relax guys. There's a clean but worn down bathroom that's right next to the market with Air con blasting. Parking lot is huge. read more

The Asian supermarket straddles between Pleasantville and Egg Harbor Township. It caters mostly to a wide variety of mostly Chinese products along with south east Asian, Japanese and a little bit of Korean products. I have been quite disappointed in the past few years of the lack of care and presentation of this supermarket. There is no pride in the appearance or cleanliness of the market, between the fish tanks that need a bit more scrubbing and the product shelves rusting over, having not been wiped in the longest. As well the biggest downfall as of late is the failure to price mark the items on the shelf or on the items and keeping it up to date ( items are marked wrong as pictured below on the first red line, the Sesame oil bottle has the ticket label of Szechuan pepper oil $ 3.99 the item display label is incorrect/misplaced), there are 100s of products with no price label throughout the store. This has been happening slowly and now has snowballed to full shelves not having any price label. How can the public buy with confidence ? Pre-covid, there were a good group of workers who stocked the shelves but products still were priced label, now it seems as though there are no workers aside from the cashier, fishmongers and butcher. I believe this skimming down of workers has contributed to the supermarket negligence and not being transparent in doing business. For the most part this is the biggest Asian grocer in Atlantic county from what I know and I believe it can do better and be better for the surrounding community who want to shop and have more pride in its appearance. read more

If you are looking for a shopping experience filled with sights you may never have seen, sounds that aren't recognizable, and perhaps some very unique scents then the Asian Market is the perfect place for a 30 minute stroll. If you have been missing Chinatown's street fish mongers or if you have not made the trip to the big Apple well the baskets of fish and crabs on ice will fulfill your fish fry fantasies (Ok, I want to be clear that I have never had a fish fry fantasy but I assume some of you might, which is perfectly alright.) because the variance of species will satisfy every taste. Now, this review is starting to sound like a Where's Waldo so I will stop adding the phrase "If you have been missing" but please feel comfortable in quietly saying that phrase before reading the following paragraphs. If you ... Darn I almost slipped but one constant at this market is that the employees very quickly act like they do not understand even the simplest English question. I always feel like I am somewhere in the People's Republic because so many shoppers are speaking in Mandarin or Cantonese or what I just call Chinese since I cannot comprehensive any of the many dialects. Just a pause to give you an FYI (No need to say If you have been missing for this bit of trivia.). There are 5 primary Chinese dialects (Mandarin, Cantonese & 3 others) plus more than 200 individual dialects, which is why I just listen without knowing. A very complete (as in every part of the body) selection of chicken and pork all at reasonable prices. If you are looking for some chicken toes for your Superbowl party you will find them here. The black meat of Silky Chickens cause second glances. A nice selection of beef cuts too. Asian spices, Asian herbal cures, a variety of dried fungus and some mystery products (See the note on my understanding of Chinese.) can quickly fill up the shopping basket. You love those little corn ears at your local take out? Well you can find them canned here (Definitely would not recommend them but if you love them ... Love is always an individual opinion after all.) along with more canned goods than I could list ... well I could list them but this is already a long review. Egg roll wrappers, Vietnamese spring roll skins, fish balls (far too many packages of fish balls and no I did not buy any), and every Asian sauce you can imagine and more (Since I have quite a saucy imagination and there were more than I could imagine I feel safe in making this statement.). And, the sweet little lady at the check out stares you down until you pack your own plastic bags. Of course she doesn't speak English but she did wrap each jarred item in newspaper but I can't read the news because duh the paper is in Chinese. The cost was reasonable so if you have been missing ... Well good prices are a plus. I am giving the market 4 stars but will admit the rating leaned very close to 3 but the experience raised it up. Those concerned with cleanliness won't like this market & yes it is frustrating that no one on the staff seems to understand English. They have a great selection to choose from, especially seafood. I purchased 15 peices of fish and requested they be filed. When I realized he did not understand. I picked up a vacuum sealed peice of filed salmon and said, I want it like this. He replied, ok. I stood and watch him and realized, he was leaving the head on and was trying to complete this simple task with a meat cleaver. I went behind the counter and told him, no bones, head. Etc and showed him the salmon. He was upset with me, but not only did I tip him 10.00 in the very beginning when I handed him my fish, I also told and showed him what I wanted. He gave me one bag he had finished and I noticed it had bones and whatever that peice on both sides dangling, so I said, wait this is not clean. It's a real miracle, because now he understood English and angrily told me no more, no. I said, it's not done and was going to leave it, as bad as I wanted it and just walk away. The other guy behind, said something to him, in their language and took off his apron and hat and stomped in the back, he then look at me and said, I fix it for you. I waited another 20 minutes, paid for it and left. I just got home from NJ and wanted to rinse and put my fish away. When I took everything out of the bag, the scales were still on, some had bones, the black whatever it's called, and I had to remove the fins. Unbelievable. I just hope, after all this, it is good and worth the unnecessary stress. Then I witnessed a man cleaning out a part of the display case, return the mop to the mop sink and came and started cleaning someone's fish. No changing of the gloves or washed their hands. Unbelievable. I won't go back again. I will just have to pray and venture to Phila to get fresh fish. No excuse at all for this type of service. read more

Just got back from my snowy pilgrimage to Asia Supermarket. What should have only taken me 45 minutes ended up being quite a bit more, but snow and traffic slowed me down. I would not be deterred however, as I was encouraged by a fellow Yelper that Asia Supermarket would make me a happy girl. Indeed it did! Unfortunately, I had very little time to browse and I had to literally fly through the store. And there was SO much to see. I'm not a stranger to Asian grocery stores, but it seems as though every one I visit is as different as they are similar. I was most impressed with Asia Supermarket's selection of greens. They had far more variety than I've seen in one place. Several types of savory melons I've not seen previously in addition to herbs and lovely Asian mushrooms, beautiful and reasonably priced. The selection of fruit didn't knock my socks off, but it is winter, so I'm reserving judgement just yet. I got a bag of the most PERFECT chestnuts I've ever seen, not a speck of mildew. YAY! The seafood section is not a large as H-Marts, but their live lobster, eel and crabs are impressive. HUMONGOUS Dungeness crabs and lobsters, 7.99 and 8.99 respectively. Lots of meat on these bad boys! I had hardly any time to peruse the dried fruits, herbs, teas and sauces, but the selection and countries represented are impressive. Their ramen selection was a bit limited, but they had the brand of instant pho that I love, so I'm not gonna gripe. It was also 20 cents cheaper than it is in Cherry Hill. To make up for their lack of ramen, they had a lot of dried noodle varieties and tons of udon and other refrigerated noodles as well. I walked out with three types of frozen glutinous red bean balls- again, happy girl! There was WAY more kinds of frozen dumplings and other dim sum than I had time to check out. The freezer cabinets are not illuminated, so it made it hard to peruse without opening the doors. I quick flew through the last aisles of housewares and religious goods. There is a small selection of Buddist devotional items, a large selection of pots and pans, dinnerware, and Asian decor. I was looking for a bamboo steamer, but couldn't find one, but honestly, I only looked for about 90 seconds before RUNNING to the register. I did score a large Asian themed blue and white mug with lid that made me very, very happy, for only 3.99. Sweet!!! 4 bags of loot for only 47 bucks. Love it. read more

I love going here. It's not the cleanest or most organized, and it often smells weird. But they have a BUNCH of cool foods, everything I could ever want. They also have really cool plates and cutlery and honestly I want to come more. The service is what you'd expect--I don't really talk to anyone, they don't really talk to me, and that's fine. I don't want anyone to talk to me. It's perfect. Sometimes it would be nice if I could ask someone to go works there a question about a product I'm looking at, because I don't speak any of the languages a lot of the products have written on them, but that's ok, I can just Google it. Honestly I probably could try but I am shy and I don't want to bother anyone. I love it here so much, it's not that expensive. I'm going to give it 2 stars for the "Meh. I've experienced better." Let's start with the bad - seafood area (especially during the summer time: this place smells horrible) is probably one of the worst areas here. The stench is a mixture of dead rotting fish, fungus growing who knows here and probably someone's used deodorant. I can't count how many times I've seen dead fish floating in their fish tanks. Why don't they just take it out? I see the fish mongers doing nothing at all - no customers were there. Why not clean? They don't clean the fish tanks either. They are black with rusted parts. Why not clean? Produce: I took some pics of their produce which is posted here on Yelp. The ones that I took were in horrible condition. I don't see this degree of poor quality at any supermarket but here. Don't get me wrong, there are many produce here that are of good quality (e.g. mushrooms, bean sprouts, etc). So why did I take these photos? I've been coming here for years and I see bad produce here WAY TOO OFTEN. Hopefully someone that works there will see this and get a brain fart to stop selling bad produce. Butcher area: I don't know where to start. Do they ever clean the cutting board? Frozen foods: This is a gamble. If you're here to buy mochi ice cream or any ice cream, my recommendation is to pick a box that is in the middle (not too close to the back and not too close to the front) because you could get F*cked with ice cream that has freezer burn all over it or that has been melted, frozen, melted, and frozen again. So what is good? There's still plenty here that is safe to buy. Condiments such as soy sauce, asian dressings, fish sauce, asian drinks, etc. Packaged snacks are ok too. We buy our rice here sometimes. You can also buy instant noodles, nori for your sushi rolls and more. I personally don't come here too often. Only when we really need something. My family and I generally drive about 40-45 minutes to Cherry Hill to shop at HMart http://www.hmart.com/company_new/shop_store.asp?store_code=CRH for most of our needs. We also take a trip up to northern NJ to Mitsuwa http://mitsuwa.com/english/index.html a couple times a year for our Japanese cooking needs. My Advice to Customers: You want to make Asian food at home? Buy your seasoning and some produce you can't find elsewhere here. Buy your veggies and proteins at your local supermarket, fish monger (e.g. Bob's Seafood, or where ever is good for you) and produce outlet. You don't need to buy cabbage here to make your side dish to your Japanese pork katsu. My Advice to Asian Supermarket management: Clean the place up. It's dirty and it smells. This is the closest Asian grocery store to us so we come here quite often. It's not the cleanest, nicest, or best smelling place we've been to, but we make do with what we have. They have a good assortment of Asian greens and they carry the best kimchi (in the cooler section near the meats). This kimchi has no MSG or preservatives, score! It comes in 2 or 3 different sized glass jars. I'll upload a picture when I get a chance to snap a photo. Most of the time, the greens are in fairly good condition meaning it's not wilted, old, or soggy. They only have a few Asian herbs such as Thai basil, mint, cilantro, fish mint, and culantro. Often times they have pre-weighed bags of greens outside of the store for $2-3 a bag. I've never seen white water spinach before bc we typically get the dark green variety. It's nice and tender with the same taste. They also carry Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese and Korean sauces and condiments. It's mostly Chinese, but you can find a few things you need if you were to make a Japanese or Korean dish. They have a good selection of dried noodles, but they don't carry the brand of rice vermicelli that I love (temple brand - thap chua). I don't buy much from their meat and seafood department. I've bought pork ribs from there which are nice and meaty. My MIL has bought fish from them, but it's usually a hit or miss. Overall, come here if you're looking for a nice assortment of Asian vegetables and other knick knack items. read more

I will start by saying they have an AMAZING selection of food. Not the best by any means, but really excellent for South Jersey. It's the closest place I can go (from Ocean City) to get delicious dumplings, asian candy, and matcha tapioca pearls. The reason I'm giving the place only three stars is because of the fish section. Most of the specimens were fresh on ice, but I'm assuming something was rotting somewhere because of the smell. I asked the gentleman working if it was okay for me to grab the fish with the tongs and bag it myself (because at ACME/ Shoprite the person behind the counter always does that for you). He gave me the dirtiest look, shook his head, and walked away muttering something. To be fair, it was probably a dumb question, and as a food service worker I've done that to customers myself... BUT ONLY IF THEY'RE SUPER RUDE! I feel like I didn't deserve that treatment, as I was very polite in asking. I'm not mad about it, because maybe he didn't speak english at all and just felt awkward because he didn't understand my question. However, the overall experience was very nice! My 'GoTo' place for uncooked thin chinese noodles. As someone who spent two years in South East Asia in the 60s I am quite used to this type of market however not one this big and specializing in so many different foods. Markets in SE Asia are much smaller and more specialized eg. Fish, Poultry, Fruit, Vegetables or Meats. This market has it all. They carry an extensive array of Vietnamese, Korean and Chinese specialty products. So many types of rice and noodles I get confused as to what I was looking for. Prices for rice and noodles are very reasonable, however brand name american products such as soy sauce or Kikkoman products are on par with local supermarkets. Plenty of live fish and eels if you into that and many, many specialty products, along with meats and lots and lots of fresh vegetables. Probably anything you need for Asian cooking. read more

Besides it looking dirty...which I feel for some odd reason is the trend with Asian markets...it has a pretty decent variety of ingredients and stuff in general. The items on the shelves are "organized" and are pretty easy to find. The fruits and vegetable aisles are a bit questionable. Some days you'll find fresh fruits and veggies and other days they're not so great. I haven't had much problems with the vegetables in general, but the fruits are sometimes unpredictable in my opinion. One day you buy it and it's fresh the next day or two they're molding already...so I say fruits is a battle. Workers aren't the smiley-est people, but they're overall kind. I don't think any of them really speak English, so your best bet is to ask someone who's shopping for help rather than the workers themselves. I know this isn't ideal for a store, but like I said this is the average Asian market. The cashiers are usually the same faces everyday and they're really nice and do their jobs well. They're not going to put a big grin on their face, but once you become a regular they do acknowledge you. Overall, it's an average Asian market, what do you really expect? It has a variety of Asian ingredients and the shelves are organized and the vegetables are decent. Price range for most the items are alright, nothing too cheap and nothing too expensive either. I freaking love this place. Where else can you find live eels, beef stomach, and Ovaltine steps away from each other? The produce is ripe, fresh, and very reasonably priced. Huge whole fresh fish are laid out on ice while lines form in front of the fishmonger for live oysters, eels, and some of the largest crabs I've ever seen. All manner of Asian noodles, candies, spices and sauces. I have to echo Mark N.'s sentiment, though. Often times I find something really bad ass and legit-looking, but I have no idea what it is because I don't know Korean (or Chinese, or Japanese.) If you are even slightly into Asian cookery, or if you're like me and just make sad attempts at it, this place is your wonderland. Truly an invaluable asset to this community. read more

The only reason that I shop at the AS is that H-Mart is to far away to shop at on a frequent basis. There is a total language barrier without anyone in the store to ask where to find a particular item (unless you go hunting and are lucky enough to find the manager). The fish area aways has a little more than a fishy smell to it; like something is rotting somewhere. To me the worst part is how you are treated at the meat counter, I waited until an Asian customer was taken care of who clearly came after me since it was impossible for me to get the attention of the butcher who was directly in front of me and who was clearly not waiting on anyone. I voiced my objection but I was treated like I was invisible. BTW do they EVER clean those butcher tables?? Gross out! I only stayed to get what I needed for a dish that I had to prepare that evening, otherwise I would have booked out of there. Produce wise they do have a selection of items that are not always available at our local produce stores and they also have a very nice selection of frozen foods and condiments. H-Mart is much cleaner and is run much more professionally. They also have a much larger and diverse selection of products and the meat and fish department are hands down much cleaner with a larger variety of proteins. I guess I'd say this is "my" Asian grocery store. Kinda like I have "my" Acme and "my" ShopRite etc. It's more than just an Asian supermarket. When you walk through the doors there are a few booths in front and to your left. An Asian bakery (love the custard cups and sausage buns - sweet bread dough wrapped around a sausage and baked til golden and yummy) and some sushi/Asian food as well as a little knick knack store and a cell phone stand. The Asian grocery store is to the right. When you enter you're smacked in the face with the seafood department - literally. I've never bought seafood here because the smell turns me off. I honestly don't know how the quality is because I've never walked over to the seafood counter, but usually when it has that fishy smell, it's not in the best shape. Other than that, this is a great store with really great selection and is very organized. They have a decent sized produce section, more vegetables than fruits. They're all in good shape, not immaculate produce like Whole Foods or anything, but certainly good enough for me! There's a housewares section with cookware and non-grocery items. Theres a big aisle of ramen noodle type noodles. I know they're trashy but I can't help myself. My favorite since i was 5 is the Tung-i onion rice noodles...I was forced to order them from amazon.com til this place started carrying them! Mmm sodium. Then the next few aisles are broken down by cuisine, Japanese, Chinese, Thai etc. I like the Japanese aisle - i always get cold brew green tea and green tea and red bean mochi. Aisles are also broken down by canned "stuff" (lotsa weird stuff in cans and jars!) sauces, rice etc. Theres also a row of freezers in the back with premade dumplings and shu mai and filled buns and all that good stuff. I'm always so tempted by the ice creams but never have enough room in my cooler bag to take any home. Maybe next time! Theres also an aisle with refrigerated drinks...in really cool bottles. You have to get a Japanese soda just for the sake of opening it and popping the marble down into the bottle lol. In recent years they expanded and made their meat section larger and they have both fresh and frozen meats. I've never personally purchased any meats so I'm not sure of the quality, but it's worth checking out. Especially if you're into chicken feet or something like that :) Oh! and this is the only Asian market in the area that I've found to have this special Chinese cough medicine. I am giving this place a one star because the workers are so RUDE/RACIEST!!!!! I went up to the guy who sells fishes near the tank and simply said I wanted a white fish not a black fish. The guy literally picked up a black fish and pulled it out to weigh it. I again reminded him thinking he probably forgot what I said 2 seconds ago that I wanted a white fish and pointed it out to the tank. He automatically put the black fish back in the tank and told me that there is no white fish available and listen to this he told me to GET OUT! I am still shocked and disappointed and will contact the Better Business Bureau ASAP!!! By Law no one can tell a customer to get out when they simply want to buy a certain item that is available! I will never go there again and will contact my Lawyer! read more

Since the beginning of the development of the casino industry in Atlantic County, the Asian population has steady increased. As a result there have been many openings/closings of small Asian markets trying to meet the demands. Prior to the Asia Supermarket, you had to go to either Philadelphia or NYC to get authentic Asian products. This market now meets that void. Products sold are Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese. It sells fresh seafood, meats, frozen, and canned items. Also Asian decorations (ex. dishes, cooking woks, ceramic items) It is almost a mini Chinatown in itself. At the time of this review, the Asian market area had a roasted duck/chicken/pig takeout store, Vietnamese restaurant, Asian barber shop, & Jewelry store.
