We've been coming to OC beach this year and always want to try something new in the area. Bashful Banana is tucked away in a small area with other store front and tables with chairs are out front to chill outside. Small little store with just enough space for a few people inside to order what you'd like. Everyone is very kind and helpful with ordering and the whole menu is on the counter for a closer look. I ordered the Pina Colada Whip & my girl got the Peanut Butter Cup. Pina Colada was layered with everything you'd find in the drink at the bar. Bits and pieces of pineapple, shredded coconut throughout and the blended up bananas. Every bite you're getting a bit of everything and with the cool whip piled on makes it so much better. The Peanut Butter Cup was her dream. Being a peanut butter lover she was very pleased with it. The creamy peanut butter in the middle and chocolate chips in the bananas was on point. My daughter, who is an extremely picky eater, stumbled upon this place. Wow! We were all pleasantly surprised! Food was fabulous! I am a real meat eater, so when I realized a lot of the stuff was vegetarian, I was skeptical. We ordered fish tacos, a turkey burrito, A turkey cheese steak and chicken fajitas. My fajitas were so fresh and delicious! My daughter loved her burrito, which had lots of guac and to my surprise, the turkey cheese steak was excellent! Who knew! The fish tacos were abundant with crispy chunks of cod and a nice slaw. But now for the desert... I ordered a raspberry banana whip with raspberries blueberries and granola. OMG! I am still dreaming about this. It's a frozen banana that's turned into a custard! Absolutely delicious, and inside the dome of custard it was filled with raspberries and blueberries. A customer was complaining of the long wait. I also saw a customer go back to the ordering area to ask for the rest of his order they forgot. I only saw one machine being used to make the banana whip. Ordering food on the boardwalk might take a while if it's a busy day or night. Personally I don't mind waiting for great tasting foods. My banana whip treat was refreshing. I enjoyed the creaminess and sweet taste. I should of ordered a large one instead of a small. I ordered a plain one and my friend ordered a large with blueberries and granola. She wanted nuts but they were all out. We did not order any food off of their lunch menu. I'm a big fan of this place and always make it a point to visit it when I come to Ocean City. Their banana whips are one of my favorite desserts ever and the chicken fiesta bowl is delicious. The reason for mediocre star rating is because of this place is impossible to predict when it's open. It states 'closed for weather' on door but it's a perfect day. When I went to visit it for dinner tonight at 6pm it said it was closed at 330pm. It's Friday night. There were at least three other parties trying to also get food from this establishment. I understand if there was snow on the ground and dangerous out, but it's a nice summer day. It wasn't announced on their website or instagram page. Also it happens so often that the last time I was there, there was another patron asking why they close to often for 'inclement weather.' Just odd in my opinion. We are a family of vegetarians. We ordered 5 different items for 6 different people. Literally every one of us described our meal as bland. We also all noted that the food seemed like it was not fresh, and was a mix of frozen items and store made items. The waiter was not attentive, probably because she was busy. We ended up not getting water refills, needing to pursue restaurant staff for things we needed, and even paying the bill inside. The meal cost us over $100 and every one of us had to force ourselves to eat enough of our order to feel like we had eaten. Overall the meal was not satisfactory and we all agreed we could have gotten better food for almost half of the price elsewhere on the boardwalk. read more

I understand this business is not the same business I remember it being, and I know that it is because the juicers are different now, but the banana whip just isn't whip anymore. I get a better banana whip at home with my Dole machine... In addition to the machines being different now and the whip being different too, I did not have the best experience because of the service. A small banana whip cost $7.65 which seems like a lot. Also, the person who made my whip took a very very long time which is weird because it's a quick thing to make. The problem was that this business is very disorganized and the part that they needed to put on the banana whip machine extruder is so stripped that it hardly screws on anymore. And they only had one piece that they were moving between two machines so it took a long time to get that put on and working. The note to customers that they have posted states that the banana whip is more of a hard State than a soft State now which is accurate. But it is kind of weird to see the person putting the banana whip from the extruder into the cup use their clean gloved hand to smush it with their fingers into the cup. It was a very hygienic operation it just was weird to see. I hope this business is able to afford the new machines even though they cost three times as much as the old ones because this experience was completely different than what I had experience in the past. Disclaimer: I've only tried their banana whip. They offer a lengthy menu of food and bakery items as well. I recently tried their banana whip and I was so excited! I had heard a lot of good things but my experience was underwhelming. My banana whip didn't taste like banana oddly enough, it was so frozen, it really didn't taste like anything. The toppings I included in my banana whip added a flavor. They do offer a lot of different toppings and a few "whip" flavors. Bashful Banana offers unique baked goods that appear nothing short of delicious. I didn't try any during my visit but I'll be sure to sample them when I return. They also offer a lengthy menu that appears appetizing as well. I won't give up on you Bashful Banana, I'll be back to check out the rest of the hype. I've been coming to the shore every summer for my whole life and discovered Bashful Banana a few years ago. I've gone back every summer. As someone with severe allergies, it is a great place for safe food and healthy, delicious options. The banana whip, which they are well-known for, is a sweet allergen-free alternative to soft serve. It is a great texture and they have a lot of topping choices, like pretzels and vegan chocolate chips and chocolate sauce. I also really enjoy their menu items for dinner or lunch. My family often goes out to eat on vacation, and this can be stressful for me with my dairy allergy. I'll often get something take-out from Bashful Banana regardless of where my family gets dinner. I LOVE their vegan mac n cheese--it is some of the best vegan mac I have had. I also like their salad options with chicken or shrimp, and they also have good oven baked chicken tenders with a house-made honey mustard dipping sauce. The servings are all substantial and a good value. The employees are knowledgable about the menu items and/ or will double check the ingredients to make sure it is okay for me. They have a convenient to-go fridge with pre-packaged items. I grabbed a turkey salad to go before I left to travel home so I'd have something I knew was safe to eat on the road. Greatest hidden GEM in OCNJ! I've been coming to the OCNJ Boardwalk my whole life and I have only recently discovered Bashful Banana's famous banana whip! It is SO GOOD, and is the perfect replacement to ice cream for those with dairy intolerances or who are looking for a lighter Boardwalk snack! I get the plain whip with peanut butter and some sort of fruit. Everything is always fresh and flavorful. The service is quick and the employees are kind. Once again, an Ocean City staple gets plenty of nostalgia points from me. I remember when this place opened a couple decades ago and entirely forgot that it existed until this past Labor Day weekend when my girlfriend and I were walking by. I can remember my mom getting muffins here (which she always raved about) and I needed to stop in. I was pleased to see that it is exactly the same inside as I remembered, which means that it could probably use a refresh. They appear to be using the same banana creamers that they were 20 years ago and the girls behind the counter were working hard to churn out orders. The kitchen is in the back and out of sight. We got one of their proprietary "duffins" - a donut/muffin hybrid that really seemed to be a muffin in the shape of a donut. I *guess* that counts. We got a blueberry one, which was good but would have been better hot. We also got a banana whip (the standard here) with chocolate chips. It was really good. We got a kiddie size which looked bigger than a small! It's a shame that this place is not on the main part of the boardwalk. You really have to know what you are looking for to find it. However, they offer something completely unique to the sweet treat scene here. If you want something that's not ice cream or water ice, check this place out! read more

So this place looks like a weird, quirky, vegan place. But trust me it is tasty and they do have meat. I went three times while visiting for one week. Day 1 - Banana whip, peanut butter sauce, pretzels, "chocolate sauce" - it was tasty and filling. The Banana whip is just a Banana "Chocolate Sauce" is all fruit and I found it a little sour tasting and not worth it! Day 2 - Banana whip, strawberry whip, peanut butter sauce, coconut, and whipped topping - Look this was on point. Sweet, salty, creamy, just everything you want in a somewhat healthy sweet treat! Day 3 - I returned to get another whip but instead I got a egg and cheese on a croissant. It was very large and filling. I added onions and tomatoes. My biggest issues were the onions were not grilled but I did not ask so how I would I have known. Staff recommended trying the new chocolate sauce when I told them I wasn't feeling the other one and other honest recommendations. I was very impressed with this place. It has a small unassuming appearance. We dined here for breakfast and everything was good from the coffee to the baked good to my omelet. I started off with a coffee and one of their fresh baked blueberry scone with lemon drizzle, it was VERY good. I also ordered their bruschetta omelet which honestly was one of the best omelets I have ever had. Fluffy eggs, mozzarella cheese and fresh bruschetta, it was delish. Prior to going for breakfast, I went online to their menu so I had an idea of what to order. I didn't know it but it was the first day of NJ letting customers come in and counter order and sit on the tables outside instead of ordering on the boardwalk and not being allowed to sit on the tables. When I got there and made my order, the server looked at me confused, apparently the menu that I found online was an outdated menu but she offered me a current menu and also told me that they could customize a smoothie for me. It was weird for me because I had my heart set on the description of that smoothie and it wasn't an option, which I understand menus change. (I've since found the menu which was the 2nd link from my Google search and it appears its from 2011...) My replacement smoothie was good but I don't remember what I got at the time of this review. The food we ordered was ok. The bread in my EBCOT sandwich was tooooo bready ( I chose the hoagie roll) and I actually hollowed out some of my roll because I couldn't fit the thing in my mouth. I understand that I did choose the roll from the options given but it was too much and too hard. The actual guts of the sandwich was good. The bananas in the whip I got from the Bashful Banana were tasteless, I imagine because they were frozen at the wrong point. The fudge sauce and chocolate chips were also not the least bit tasty. I paid almost $10 for my whip and ended up throwing 90% of it in the trash, and I'm someone who usually forces myself to eat what I've purchased, particularly something expensive, even if it doesn't live up to expectations. This place never fails to disappoint. My wife and son like it here so I return every year. If you are not a vegan, there is little reason to eat here. Breakfast is especially disappointing unless you prefer only scrambled eggs. They refuse to serve eggs any other way. Since we were here for lunch, i ordered the veggie chili which was aptly named as it was served chilly. I asked for cheese melted on top, but it wasn't even hot enough to warm the cheese. Having celiac (aka needing carefully prepared gluten free food), a nut allergy and being vegetarian can make it really hard to find a place to eat out but I always know that Bashful Banana is the place to go. Usually I opt for the veggie quesadilla on a gluten free wrap but last night I decided on the gluten free AND vegetarian meatball sub. I know. Unheard of!! It was so good but kind of small, so if you're looking for something more filling, I would suggest getting a side or appetizer. They have plenty of gluten free soup options, entrees and I saw in the bakery case that they even have dessert! This is really a safe haven for celiacs at the shore. Try to avoid dinner time- 6 pm or so - if you want your food quickly. But the outdoor seating and smoothies make the wait bearable. Vegan food in Ocean City! Vegan food in Ocean City! My wife arrived for a late August 2012 vacation and lamented our lack of vegan options. We even discussed leaving early on the last day to get a vegan brunch in Philly on the way back home. Then my wife discovered Bashful Banana on the Yelp app. We split a breakfast burrito and a "whipaloupe." The breakfast burrito was OK but the whipaloupe, a banana whip on top of a cantaloupe was awesome. The whip on top is a great creamy treat and they make it in many fruit flavors. I look forward to using it as a replacement for frozen yogurt and custard on the boardwalk in the future! A day later we went back for dinner and I had a their homemade veggie burger served on salad with sprouts and delicious hummus. Very healthy and filling. Imagine this: frozen bananas pureed into a thick, creamy, custard-y, ice-cream-like concoction called "banana whip". Then, it's topped with fresh fruit (you can get strawberries and blueberries; or just strawberries). Then it can be topped with granola, Cheerios, or gluten-free granola. I had to severely restrict my gluten intake so I asked for just a little bit of Cheerios. And a cup of coffee. Looks can be deceiving. It was extremely filling and was quite a breakfast. The coffee was a serve-yourself kind of deal. All together: $8.67. Yes, a little steep for a breakfast of just bananas, strawberries, and a sprinkle of Cheerios. But was it good? Hell to the yes. It was that good, that I actually stopped in later that night for just banana whip with strawberries to fill my void of ice cream/frozen yogurt.
