The day waitress on Saturday the 18th of Nov was a train wreck. Literally what the actual. She was beyond rude and taking orders was challenging for her. Getting it right proved to be a bigger task. Seriously!!! She is a disaster and an embarrassment. Got mad at us when orders were wrong. Bonzers needs employees that like what they are doing. You don't have jobs if you don't have customers so be nice or quit. This was a hot topic and learned she was rude to others that ate there that day. Thankfully we got a new server that was much better at his job. I get if you having a bad day but that's not an excuse. We are paying customers and don't deserve the extremely unprofessional behavior. read more

The food and beer is still very good but the size of the GASP sandwich has shrunk considerably through the years. Maybe it's a way of holding prices down but it's just not the legendary eating challenge it used to be. I wish they would go back to what they did before even if it does cost more. A friend and I had a meal at Bonzer's today. We ordered two sandwiches, two cups of Chili, and two schooner beers. We were disappointed with the sandwiches. Didn't get the sandwiches that we ordered, menu said one was to be a hot sandwich and it wasn't. The sandwich meats were scarce on the bun! This is the best place in GF to "get a beer". If you want to catch up with an old friend, meet coworkers after work, or start off a night downtown--Bonzer's is the place. The soup and sandwiches are decent, but the draw here is not the food. Atmosphere and drinks for the win. Oh, and I hear the pickled eggs are the best in town...if you're into that sort of thing. The schooners of beer are big, cold, and cheap. They make schooners of Long Islands, too--if you're on a mission. The crowd is late college and older. It might be that I've never been a huge pub fan, but at best, I find Bonzer's to be a bit of a bore. This tends to be the place that we end up when a group of us goes out, since it's typically devoid of the younger, more obliviously drunk crowd that the other places downtown draw. The music tends to be old, and pop-genre music tends to get turned down in favor of classic rock. If the bar's busy, trying to move around can be a pain, as the main corridor runs between the bar and the tables opposite. Generally, not a huge fan. read more

It's a sandwich place/bar. Go for the bar, not the food. The food is...OK at best. I've been here for lunch, and for supper. No matter when I'm there, the buns are stale. The french dip is probably their best offering. On the bar side, they have had pretty consistent bar-tending and drink prep. The Long Island Iced Teas are the best I've had in Grand Forks. But, I haven't taste-tested all the teas in town. Definitely better than Ground Round. In all, it's an OK/decently-priced place to grab something for your belly if you're downtown. You will get fresher bread across the street at Subway, though. read more

Ok. I've grown weary of leaving bad reviews of Grand Forks food spots. Once again, people told us this was a staple. The sandwich I ordered (the spicy beef) was deli roast beef and some slices of raw green pepper and red onion. Nothing was cooked. It was dry. Not sure what was "spicy" about it. Piece of garbage. My roomie ordered the French dip. The same deli roast beef from Walmart thrown onto a shitty bun. What the hell is going on in this town? You people need to try food in a real metropolitan city and reassess your ideas of food. God what a waste. Update: my roommate said the ruffles chips served as a side were decent. read more

I haven't been to Bonzer's since before the flood of '97, I was recently back in Grand Forks for a family event and wanted to go there for lunch. We went in and I asked the server if they still served "The Gasp" sandwich. He told me "of coarse we do!" I was thrilled! I ordered it and it was every bit as good as I remembered it from 97! My only regret was I no longer have the appetite that I used to back then so I had to take 1/2 home with me...(it's great as a leftover). I really would like to thank Bonzer's for having such a great service and making my return trip worth the time!! I really wish we had a sandwich pub that would come even close to this. read more

First, I believe that it needs to be stated that Bonzer's is a staple in downtown Grand Forks. That being said, Bonzer's has earned every star in its 5-star rating. First, the atmosphere of Bonzer's has a rather unique feel. A cross between a sports bar and Cheer's from the television show, Bonzer's has the comfortable feel of a hometown bar with the sports memorabilia and televisions of any sports bar. As for the food, the name pretty much says the specialties of the establishment. Beers (about 30 varieties) and enough sandwich choices to make you go back again and again in order to try them all. And these aren't little sandwiches. Priced between $5.00 and $8.50 these sandwiches are plate fillers and they add chips. Besides sandwiches and beers, menu options include chili, fish, wine, salads, appetizers and other goodies. With the choices, the prices, the atmosphere, and the fact that this is still a family owned restaurant (with the third generation working at the bar on weekends and summer breaks from the local university) its easy to see how Bonzer's has succeeded in being the every man's bar and restaurant. read more

Stopped in here with a friend I got egg salad & they got a tuna sandwich & both were less than good. The egg salad was just some mayonnaise & egg, absolutely noooooo other seasoning or add ins & the tuna was the same. Bland & boring. Our server was alright, but seemed like she would rather be somewhere else. CHILE!!!! It's so good and quite hot. Make sure it get it loaded with onions, cheese and sour cream. Worth the stop to have a bowl and to look at the old tavern ceiling. And, they have fake trees and old photos, which I love both in bars. Old buildings like this one are so cool to drink in. They give you these big margarita type goblets to drink your beer out of. Nice variety on tap. The array of sandwiches could keep you eating here for weeks on end and never get bored. The service wasn't super friendly, but adequate (I'm being lenient as they were going through a shift change when we were there). LOVE the atmosphere and a few items on the menu. Usually the service is fantastic ... however ... I have had bad service here too. I was sexually harassed here after a date with my partner by a stranger and the staff would not respond when I requested help on multiple occasions. A random patron had to kick the guy out, because we did not feel comfortable leaving alone and we called the police. This could happen anywhere, I guess... we were just very disappointed with the series of events and the general carelessness of the person working. read more

After a night of drinking I handed an empty rebate card and left without closing the tab, I awoke to the following message on my Facebook from the owner of Bonzers: Your bad ass Verizon Wireless Rebate Card didn't have quite enough money left on it to cover your tab last night and it was declined. I would suggest you stop by Bonzer's and pay for those three Long Island Teas as soon as possible. That's a pretty amateur move. If you don't come pay the tab we will just refuse service to you from now on......and trust me, you and your haircut aren't tough to pick out of a crowd. In my honest opinion it's not a great bar. I have been there numerous times and the last time was by far the worst. I got denied at the door due to my ID being a "fake." When I called to speak to a manager I was told that I couldn't. Instead of apologizing and saying they were wrong in denying me entry, they told me to try to sneak in the back as opposed to rightful entry though the front.
