This store has retained its name and branding and general cozy vibes, but they switched the rewards program and receipt paper to Barnes and Noble. They didn't ask us for a membership number or anything at the cashier. There is no indication of this store's relationship to Barnes and Noble anywhere in the store (probably by design). So I guess it still feels like you're supporting a local business but it's actually Barnes and Noble now.

First off, Renee absolutely is THE person to own and run this place. She feels like a warm lovable character from your favorite book, the kind you reach for every now and then to read over and over again. I called recently because I really wanted to get my hands on a copy of Nikita Gill's new book "Hekate" and yes, I know I could just order it online from big box stores but I knew I wanted to support my local bookstore. Renee was quick and prompt and while she didn't have it in stock, she ordered it as quick as she could and I was able to go pick it up in the next day or so! And I picked up a few other books while I was at it because who could say no to more books!? I love popping in whenever I'm strolling downtown and I hope Books on B never leaves!

I really love fiction, so I hung out in that area for a bit to see what they had. I really like the layout of this store and how they display the books. They even had a section called "blind date with a book." They were gift wrapped with a tiny quote from the book or description about the book. What a fun idea. There nothing like have a tangible book in your hands to read. I prefer reading books this way, over using a device. I guess I'm just old school. Prices are what's labeled on the book. I really appreciate that they also carry crafting supplies and classic Chinese literature, not just generic art books. Everything here feels rooted in tradition and care. The store also offers novels, children's books, Chinese New Year decor, vases, and small toys, which makes it feel like a cultural space rather than just a bookstore. On top of that, the pricing is very reasonable. I've even found books for as little as $2-4, which makes browsing and discovering new reads even more special. The owners are an older Chinese couple who are quiet, reserved, and genuinely kind. One of the things I cherish most about Soyodo is how peaceful and calm the store is.
