You're not only decluttering your house, but you're helping out a small local business. With every book you bring in, you receive credit toward future purchases. I already have more credit than I'll probably ever use, but I'm happy that my previously read books are going to a good home. The store has a pretty decent used book selection with floor-to-ceiling shelving (and also some graphic novels, CDs, and DVDs). It's always hit-or-miss, so each time I go; I never know what I'll find. There's also a little sitting area with coffee or hot cocoa, if you so desire. How much are the used books? They're half off the cover price. How does the credit work? You get an additional half off the half-off price. So if a book has a cover price of $8, the store sells the book for $4. I can use my credit balance for an additional $2 off (half of the $4), leaving the book at a total of $2. There are also some $1 books on a rack outside the store. Everyone working there is always super friendly and helpful.

When I first walked in I wasn't even sure where to begin but it was great to be able to browse and see their extensive collection. Staff is very friendly and let us know that they curate their books from donations. If you donate your books to them, they create an account where you can have a credit on file to use. As someone, that occasionally does donate books, this is fantastic news! Additionally, all of their books unless otherwise stated are half off the cover value which is incredible and affordable! There are not too many places in 2015 where you can buy 4 paperbacks for $1 and that offer 2/$1 and 2/$2 on selected hardback books. This bookstore is small, but, it is crammed with lots of books at unbelievable bargains, they do carry some newer books and some collectible books at a bit of a premium over the ones listed above but, most people who read a lot like me should be able to find something they like at an affordable price. If you come to this bookstore bring cash, they don't accept credit cards, also, be patient and make sure you count your change, as the ladies/gentlemen who volunteer to run the shop are seasoned citizens and a few times they have gotten my change incorrect (in my favor) and I had to let them know. The shop is located in a bike/walker friendly area with parking available for vehicles at the library, on the street, a parking lot across the street, and a block down there is a free parking garage. There is also a coffee shop located next door and of course the Winter Haven public library is right across the hall.

I appreciate that the young adult/teen section has been moved and expanded from where it previously was, and frankly seems to flow better into the adult fiction area. The beach/margaritaville theming isn't my cup of tea, but IS an easy visual way to see what genre of books is where. The associates at the counter were friendly and helpful in finding a book I was looking for in particular, but not overly pushy about following me all over the store while casually browsing. I have store credit for bringing some used books in previously, and I was glad to see that had rolled over with the new ownership.

If you're someone who loves being surrounded by books, this place is such a cozy escape. The building is absolutely beautiful, with so much character. I love all of the historic details.. the old windows, stained glass accents, and charming architecture make it a place you want to linger in for a while. I come here less for the coffee itself and more for the experience of slowing down, reading a book, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. If you're looking for a peaceful, cozy bookstore café with tons of charm, Pressed Books is well worth a visit.
