I've lived in this area since 2006, so almost 20 years. BAM Clarksville used to have a whole lot more books and less merch. The magazine section is much smaller and sadder (I was looking for a specific issue of Time and they didn't have that, but plenty of AR-15 mags). Parts of the store that used to be full of books now have FUNKO figures and kids toys, as well as Bible calendars. They also have a section for anime and board games, so the nerd factor is still there, though not on the level of independent shops. They have a coffee shop and a lot of history/biography/study guide/fiction books. The spots reserved for sitting and reading are gone. It is past its prime, but in the time of Amazon, and outside of big cities, what place isn't? read more

The Clarksville Tn store has the absolute worse customer service. Two days in a row, I asked for help finding a book. Both times, I was told to look where I had already looked. If you can find what you're looking for yourself, then spend your money there. But if you need help, you might as well forget it. read more

I am not an avid reader. There are very few books I want to read. However I came in looking for a particular book. Asked at the desk (didn't know the title) I gave her the authors name. Then had to spell the authors name-fine. The male at the counter says the books name by my author. Says that would be in autobiography by the cafe. Well there were not a lot in that area and they are just on the shelf in no particular order so after standing there looking over every shelf (for over 10 minutes) with no one else around to ask- I left. I'll just order it from another seller online (that is cheaper but I was willing to pay a little more to get it that day). This is why I don't go into book stores. I don't want to have to search through shelves of books trying to fine 1 book. Can we at least have it some what organized by authors last names alphabetical in the shelves. Not the best visit to a bookstore, but it was ok. Brought in books and DVDs to trade in for cash. I was first told that they were unavailable Fridays & Saturdays for book trade. So I came on a Thursday. Still not a good day. They limit it to 50 books. They said my wait would be for a couple of days, and they would text me after they finished going through everything. We came in to purchase a belated Christmas gift for our friend and we're very pleased with the selection, prices, and discounts! The membership is a great value if you're going to be purchasing an expensive study bible or learning literature like dictionaries and study guides etc. The cashier was very nice and friendly, she even discounted one of our books because the cover was damaged. The line moved quickly so we didn't have to wait much at all, and the security man at the door was so kind and greeted us and even helped us find the correct section of the store when we entered. For being the only book store in town, it's a decent size with a good selection of categories. The big bonus (for the nerds like me) is that there's LOTS of nerdy Merch inside. It's almost a comic shop and hot topic combined with a book store. There's a lot to chose from. It's similar to Barnes and Noble as in also has a Cafe inside, Joe Muggs. It has plenty of seating and similar food and drink options as you'd find at a Starbucks. read more

When I moved to Clarksville from Seattle I didn't expect to find a bookstore like this. The staff are wonderful, and there are all kinds of books for all people! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys reading, and loves the treasure hunt of finding a great book. (The pictures are a few of the books I liked from the store). It's the only bookstore in town, but a recent experience has me ordering all my books from Amazon Prime in spite of that. Several months ago, I went in to purchase a couple of books and a magazine and was told that there was a free magazine subscription that came with my purchase - it sounded like a scam, so I asked if there was a charge that would come later and the cashier actually said no, it was totally free for a year. Needless to say, I started getting charges from not one, but three different magazines only a month after that. In calling the magazine companies, they couldn't find any record of my subscription (I assume since it was done through the store) so I ended up having to dispute the charges with my bank and getting a whole new debit card because of it, but not before they had charged me a total of $100. I probably should have known better in the first place, but this place definitely employs shady business practices. read more

The cashier here was extremely helpful. My teacher card was messing up so she helped me set up a new one altogether. I also love how the teacher or member discounts stack on top of whatever specials they are running. For example, buy two get one manga/graphic novels can stack with whatever membership discount you have. Barnes and Nobles makes you go with the best offer instead of both. They also have a huge selection of manga- like two whole aisles of it. I was pretty much in manga heaven here. I am sad the one nearest me closed but I think I will have to check out another one I've heard about. I just love Books-A-Million!! In the teeming metropolis of Clarksville lies a hidden treasure. Is it a cool hipster club? No, though you'll find some of that rare and elusive breed there. A decent bookstore, combined with adequate and at times friendly and competent staff. The coffee shop has good coffee and they have difficulty screwing up a double espresso. I wouldn't touch the somewhat defrosted "food" in the case, but thats just me being a snob. Really, it's much better than their local competitor. However, the bathrooms are seriously dingy and in disrepair, and well....my spidey sense went off everytime I passed by the facilities. And yes, there are a slew of library users throughout the store. I would make sure that whatever I was buying wasn't too dog eared. read more

I love this store BUT I had an experience recently that is upsetting me. I went to the store to purchase a magazine. They did not have it and I ended up buying a plush toy for my niece. The cashier then said that as thank you they were offering me a couple magazines for free. I should have known that it was a scam. I will receive the magazines and then be charged later. After I came to my senses I asked if it was one of those "being charged later" things and the cashier said yes. When I asked to cancel it, she said she couldn't and that it was already in the system. I had to call the number on the back of the pamphlet to cancel. Three days later and the customer service says they don't see my order yet. I expect this type of scam from online marketing, not a brick and motor store. Also, if I had not asked the cashier, I would not have known that I would be billed later. This is a very dishonest way to conduct business. I can only imagine the cashier is getting points for pushing this product on unknowing customers. Granted I should have known better. I feel bad for those that will be billed later on and can't afford the price. Shame on you BAM! I will stop by to talk to the manager and update this later. I really enjoy bookstores as they are rare these days and BAM is simply the best for all those things. Books, games, pop culture, multimedia, etc I would give them 5 stars and have to other locations, but this one is not worthy. read more

We got SOLD on the membership, but overall, if you have a Border's coupon for more than 10% then you probably can use it and save more there. I guess it depends on if you want to do price comparison to see if the item you want is on sale. I'm a little disappointed that our first purchase cost so much. Especially since Border's has so many coupons this month 15%-30% off coupons. Still happy with the books though. Customer service is great. read more

The best part of this generic bookstore is that it's open till 11pm on weekdays, rivaling only Wal-Mart for late night fun and excitement on Wilma Rudolph Blvd. They have a pretty good selection for major genres and have frequent sales. It's bigger than corporate rival Borders across the street, and is far less crowded. There are comfy chairs to read in, and a magazine rack that takes up the far wall. There's a little coffee bar inside, which I haven't tried, only because the atmosphere is pretty sterile. read more

They mark up their books, the paperback books are all bent and some ripped. It's very unorganized and I couldn't wait to get out of there. Good deals, but they don't take care of their books. I waited for 7 minutes for my coffee and was the only customer waiting. read more

Pretty poorly organized, no way to search for books and not alphabetically organized like the shelves say. If you're looking for a specific book be prepared to spend a good amount of time scanning entire shelves praying you're even in the right section. read more

My wife and I have chosen their coffee shop as our meeting place with our clients. We are always happy with the quality of their coffee and pastries. The employees are always super nice and we enjoy frequenting this business. The other thing is we figure that if you don't support your local bookstore you may not have it and that would be a shame. I really enjoy the coffee at BAM, however one girl in particular that works at the coffee bar is not up to par. She serves from the drip which makes the coffee strong, if I order a tall coffee sometimes she will put the coffee in a cup one size bigger...she say's it's because my coffee is to go. She never ask if I need room for cream. I feel she's needs to be trained better,everyone else does an good job. She mostly works afternoons, she worked this past Thursday. read more
