I love this book store in East Nashville! The space is smaller than I'd like - it can sometimes get crowded real quick if there are a handful of other people in there. But it is truly a gem and very well stocked with a lot of great books from different genres. The staff is always so helpful in checking inventory and ordering books for you. I've also done a pre-order for book releases and had a fantastic experience - 20x better than Amazon. I love supporting local bookstores and this is one of the best. read more

I loved this adorable little book shop in East Nashville. We were a little early for our dinner reservations and my daughter suggested we pop in here. We quickly lost track of time as we both tend to do in bookstores, because, well, books! If all my dreams came true, I'd own a shop just like this one-colorful and cozy, with books all the way up to the ceiling, well lit with soft ambient, lighting and quirky book lover gifts, puzzles, advent calendars and tons of stationary. I was sad when it was time to leave, but not before I spent a small fortune here. It was worth every penny. read more

Just the cutest spot! This shop is little but packs a wallop. The staff are so kind with recommendations! You can shop in store or they have a great website for ordering books for pick-up. It is so important to support local bookstores - even though it can be tempting to get cheap books online. It is just so much more special to buy them from someone who really loves books!! I appreciate that The Bookshop is so supportive of the Nashville nonprofit community - they host a Second Sunday fundraiser every month that donates 10% of their sales to a local nonprofit. It was a neat little bookshop that is connected to a cafe. It was a bit smaller than I expected and the books seemed a little higher than most independent bookshops, but I was happy to stop by. I am a big fan of "blind date with a book" so I was glad to see them do it. I kind of wished there was more information on the book so I was really going on a limb with my blind book selection. I was happy with what I got, but some of the other independent bookstores in Chicago and Austin do it a little better. Still, its a tiny cozy bookshop. We were in search of a local bookstore on our recent trip to Nashville and came across this gem of a bookstore. The Bookshop is a cute and cozy bookstore stocked floor to ceiling with books ranging a variety of different topics. Shelves are sorted by genre and there is a healthy spread of ficton and non-fiction complete with some familiar, popular titles but also a really nice selection of lesser known titles. Each of my daughters opted for a novel while I went for a non-fiction book on poverty in America. The staff member was friendly and welcoming and ensured we didn't have any questions or need anything while perusing the shelves. Attached to the bookstore is a local coffee shop making this bookstore basically the ideal location to spend some time and support two local businesses at the same time! read more

The Bookshop is incredible in so many ways. They have been very serious about keeping their customers safe during the pandemic and still providing quality service and options for purchasing online and curbsiee pick up. We were THRILLED when you could book a safe, socially distanced, and masked up private shopping experience. My friend and I wanted to support independent book store day and all the slots were booked immediately. Fortunately, we were able to find another slot the day before and shopped to our hearts content. Joelle made the shopping experience seamless. When we came into the store, she explained the layout and then let us do our thing. People came by the front pick up window to grab their pre-ordered bags and while we shopped which was nice to see. My friend and I found books for friends and for ourselves as one does. Checking out was awesome because Joelle sent us an invoice and we paid it from our phone. No passing of the credit cards needed. I can't wait to come back and support her awesome book store. She has a cute little backdrop outside where you can take a selfie that says "Book nerd" with an arrow pointing down. ;) One thing to note is that parking is limited. read more

3.5 Pre-lockdown* experience. I could have sworn I'd reviewed this place before. Anyhoo... I dig bookstores. I like to get lost in them. I like to find hidden treasures and new (to me) classics. As I've mentioned in the review of another bookstore, the experience of holding a book in your hand will never be replaced by an e-reader. Never. So, I was pretty excited when 'her bookshop' opened up out east (in East End). It was shocking to realize that there weren't any other bookstores/shops on the east side of the river. Given the growing demographic shift**, that was a surprising revelation. So, 'the bookshop' gets points just for existing (now in Greenwood) and filling a big hole. That said, the store experience is a bit limiting. The Bookshop is small. That means the selection is highly curated but that curation may circle a specific wagon too closely. At a larger store, there's more selection, more sections and more of an opportunity to get lost in a journey you didn't anticipate undertaking. For me, that's the joy of a bookstore. Everyone at the store is polite and if you are looking for something specific and it's not on the shelves, you'll get help acquiring it somehow. But each time I've been in the store, I have acquiesced to my selection rather than be astonished by. But, that's me. It may be the case the your (the reader) taste aligns more closely to/with the proprietor and, if so, you will have an excitedly better experience than I. But let me leave no doubt: the bookshop is not a bad time. It's just not my time and it's size doesn't it allow it to ever be. That's okay. That's A-OK. It's just not 'Oh Man!' For me. And, seriously, props for holding down the bookstore needs of an entire directional quadrant of a city. That's a big deal. I mean it. *Is anyone even paying attention to the fact that we're *still* in a pandemic? **Gentrification. read more

Just because my last few reviews are all 4 or 5 stars, doesn't mean I'm an easy rater. I'm not. This place is truly as good as it gets. I LOVE IT! They have a diverse offering, including a really great kid's section. I bought Feminism for Boys for my son and it's truly a wonderful board book. I wish everyone would read it, including older men. If I need a gift, I will go here first. If I need a new book, I will go here as well. They also offer story time for the little ones on Saturday mornings. This shop isn't just a bookstore, it's a neighborhood store. The staff is wonderful and the space clean. It's also connected to a really cute, new coffeeshop (Kettner). Get a new book, head next door for coffee, grab a seat on their couch and start reading. Stop in, tell your friends to stop in, tell them to tell their friends to stop in. Safe environment, friendly service, & great selections! I love supporting local businesses so during a quick trip to Nashville, I wanted to stop by and check out The Bookshop. I follow them on Instagram and saw that they offer appointment only shopping which is such a great idea. I had the entire shop to myself to browse (for 20 min max) while attempting to restrain myself from buying too many books. The store was organized, well-lit, clean, and had a variety of choices for genres, plus puzzles, shirts, and other merchandise. At the end of my appointment, contactless payment made it safe & super simple. *You can place on-line orders for pickup, if that's more your style. This place is a 10/10!!! read more

Absolutely fantastic little book shop! So glad we found it on our vacation for our one year anniversary. We got each other books (paper anniversary!) PLUS were able to support a newly opened little shop. There isn't a lot to distract from the purpose of the store - books. They range from children's books to non-fiction and some great coffee table books. They're arranged in an easy to find manner, and the owner knows her stock. Looking for something specific, just ask. Came in for the first time on my first Mother's Day, because going to a bookshop is my idea of a good time! I grew up surrounded by books and was the bookworm of my siblings. Books have always been important to my dad's side of the family and I want to instill the same care and appreciation in my child. I love supporting independently owned bookshops and this spot is really lovely. They have a cute children's book corner with lots of gorgeous books. I'm always looking for quality kids books that are also works of art and they had a nice selection. It's a small little book shop, but well curated with a pleasant and calming atmosphere. Can't wait to go back. I left with four beautiful children's books, a novel of fiction, and a fun deck of divination cards by the performance artist Marina Abramovic. read more

Joined The Bookshop's email list over a year ago. Recently got emails about Storytime for Grownups. Got two emails about the Edgar Allan Poe event, marked my calendar, and eagerly anticipated attending. Rearranged my entire day for the event. Invited a friend. Drove from Mount Juliet in the rain in terrible traffic with a horrible migraine, because-Poe. Spent a fair amount of money and rushed through food and drinks at Peninsula next door before the event, an establishment we found ourselves a bit underwhelmed by and otherwise wouldn't have visited. Imagine our dismay, after all this, when, arriving ten minutes before start time, we were turned away at the door of The Bookshop. Apparently so many people marked themselves as 'going' on social media that The Bookshop decided to make the event ticketed. Tickets were free, a sure way to get uncommitted, mildly interested parties to reserve spots they may or may not decide to use. With the dreary weather, it seemed most people who'd gotten tickets decided not to show since we were turned away seven minutes before start time despite a nearly empty store. Did The Bookshop notify its loyal customers of the change and that the event would be ticketed via email, the method by which I was made aware of Poe night in the first place? Absolutely not. When I asked the door employee tasked with turning away enthusiastic book lovers and Poe fans in favor of holding seats empty how I was to have known that the event was ticketed, she coolly explained that The Bookshop had gone to the trouble of posting that information on Facebook and Instagram. How difficult would it have been to send an email, the same way The Bookshop notified existing customers of the event, to say it had been changed to ticketed? Mere seconds of effort could have salvaged my day and the days of other people who were also sorely disappointed at being turned away at the door. News flash Bookshop: Not everyone has social media. If customers are loyal and engaged enough to sign up for your email list and an event you've blasted them about is being changed to ticketed, the least you could do is send a simple email to make them aware. This small business lost a huge fan, supporter, advocate, and promoter tonight. Independent booksellers preach about buying local and not purchasing books on Amazon then treat the customers they have this way. Literally shaking my head. read more

The colors of the spines pop and draw you in. I saw several editions of books I'd never seen before. The store was bright and inviting and connects to a coffee shop next door. Great, small store where the owner actually knows about and cares about books and had a fascinating book on the shelf that I had never heard of but immediately needed to buy. Also, has a small selection of cards and framed art, all of which I wanted to buy but had to hold myself back. Definitely worth checking by out and browsing. The one star off of the review is not completely a "fault" of the store, but because I really want an independent bookstore that has a small used book section (to my knowledge, Parnassus does not have one either). I feel like in East Nashville, there must be a ton of people with similar reading interests, and that the store would be able to make some money off of it and/or serve as a site for all of us to share/swap/re-sell our copies. read more
