This was always a date place for us when the hubs and I were young and still lived in the area . It used to have a cafe. We miss it. My husband misses their brownies. Only draw back is that their religious section is lackluster (basically nothing about Judaism). They otherwise have a good selection of books. They also have fun mugs and games. The staff really try to get you to join the membership. Not a terrible deal if you live in the area. We do make a pilgrimage here because it's always nice to reminisce our old dating days. read more

Coffee bar isn't amazing but it's still coffee. A good amount of tables for students to work or for people to just sit and read. No bathroom. I like to come in while waiting for my number to be called at Sports Clips. Be sure to peruse the bargain bin/shelf for some great deals halfway through the store on the left wall. read more

If you've never been here, the best way to describe this place is similar to Barnes & Nobles, but not as big. They carry a wide variety of goods starting from a coffee lounge to books and toys. I spent a good minute in this store and truly enjoyed the experience. Got to see a lot of Funko selections and high grade figurines that even Barnes & Noble don't carry. Unfortunately I did not purchase anything due to the fact that I thought everything was a bit more expensive than the prices I'm used to. For example most Funkos go for 8.99-9.99 except for the rare ones; this place sells common Funkos from 9.99 to 10.99. Other examples are also board and card games you could get a lot cheaper either online or at Barnes and Noble. Of course there were items this place sells that you can't find else where, but I personally had no need to shop here. Just enjoyed the unique items this store had to offer and enjoyed the time spent. I do recommend people to check out this store. This is seriously Joe the Plumber's bookstore. I'm just going to bullet it. +the whole time I was there, I could hear a rather pushy cashier try to upsell the Books A Million discount card (I've NEVER understood the point of a discount card you have to pay for!), and magazine subscriptions. He tricked a young teenager into getting the card and the magazine subscriptions, but told her that she could just cancel them online -- yeah right. +The store lets the comic book guys just sit in the aisles using the merchandise. +There was an antique car show setting up in the parking lot ... what? +The Moleskine journals here are ridiculously overpriced. +Finally, the cashier I did get, thank god wasn't the upseller, but instead some guy who I couldn't tell was trying to flirt with me, or just first week of work jitters. read more

I like this store but when you walk in it looks a bit messy,if you need help I hope you packed a lunch no help to be found. I found everything i was looking for and now for the check out. They push their so call discount card on you hard had to tell them just ring it up as is NO card. Need to get some help in there,and back off the card. read more

Books-A-Million - Bookstores Near Me - Colonial Heights, Virginia

I'm extremely, extremely disappointed with this BAM and wonder why/how it's not closed yet. I went in today around 2ish to get a book that just was released in January. They had no one working the cash registers, and no one working the back desk. I looked all over for the book, in new releases, in the best sellers list, where right now the book is listed #3 overall by USA News. I looked in the romance section, Sci-Fi/Fantasy and in Fiction. There was a different book in the same series at ALL sections and it's really weird. I don't understand why they keep putting fantasy novels in the romance section just because there's a love story. Anyways, I had a gift card to use so I tried to order the book but waited at the counter for a few minutes and no one came. I then decided I'd just buy a really popular card game called Cards Against Humanity, of course they don't have that either - but they did have a My Little Pony stuffed animal and shirts from different shows/movies (WOW!). Really, just disappointed overall in this entire store. They never have the book(s) I want when I go in there, and the way they organize their books is just strange. I found three different series I read, and they were all spread out over fiction, romance and sci-fi/fantasy sections. read more

I NEVER get a coffee or specialty drink here that is consistent! The people working the coffee bar each make the drink different. I've had to get them remake it and still not get it right. The store is a regular book store, expensive but this one has a good clearance section. This is the only reason they get 2 stars instead of 1. Do yourself a favor and get your coffee drink elsewhere. Oh and the price of the discount card is ridiculously expensive and goes up every year. Why do you have to buy a discount card for 20 something dollars? You only get like 10% discount when you buy a book using the card, a total rip off. I'm surprise this book store chain is still in business. read more

Buying/selling used books was a great idea - looking forward to when there are more used options in the store. I didn't see a clearly marked "classics" table, which I usually do in BAMs- must have missed it! Nice, large store; lots of titles that interest me. I am disappointed however about how they try to get you to sign up for magazines at the check out in addition to their discount card, saying, "which of these can we sign you up for today?" read more
