This thrift store has a little bit of everything you could possibly think of from an extensive collection of clothing, shoes, books, as well as some household items, frames, plates, cups, self-care items like lotions and soaps (some of which could make nice gifts), games, puzzles, and more. Their pricing is also very reasonable, for instance, a leather jacket in great condition was only $12 and a nice set of hand creams was $5. The new store is definitely cleaner and better organized than the old store. The store employees, however, are nowhere near as kind or enthusiastic. They did away with the kids section which was an unfortunate choice. Unlike other areas of the store, they do not organize their pants in any way. not by color, not by size, just not at all. They must have some kind of agreement with TJX because they have a lot of brand-new items for half of the tj maxx or marshall's retail tag. It's worth the stop, but know that the workers have a funny vibe. Not funny haha. read more

I had such a great time thrifting at Boomerangs by MTW! As a regular customer at Boomerangs, I'm so happy to see how MTW has improved the space but kept the feeling, inventory, and pricing true to how it used to be. You can just walk-in with them to the front counter table. Don't let your used or old belongings go to waste! They will go to a nice home. I found the perfect winter boots for $, and happily took back the $$ boots I'd grudgingly bought at TJMaxx, which were oversized...but I'd decided to settle. These boots are way more comfortable and warmer, as well. I have also found other wearables, a hiking bag and kitchen wear at giveaway prices. The fact I'm shopping for a good cause --supporting folks living with HIV, is an extra impetus to invest my monies with Boomerang. The staff is usually friendly, except that one time I found a REALLY fashionable designer gem, but the manager refused to sell it to me because it didn't have a price tag. I asked if they would tag it, but she insisted that the owner may come back to claim it. Sorry, didn't believe her. You can open an account and save for your next purchase. read more

I found a Neko Atsume cat plush - a chef cat named Guy Furry, to be exact - for $4. YESSSSSSSSSSSS. That plus a 20% student discount on Wednesdays made this a very good deal. Awesome thrift store in central square--probably the best one in Cambridge. The selection isn't huge but it is pretty decent and basically all the items are desirable to someone (no complete junk the way the goodwill often has). There are also some great finds that are not markuped to the price that they'd be at a dedicated vintage store. Environment is cozy and staff is nice. Definitely check them out! read more

Visited store for the first time, small cute busy store. The store is clean and organized. There's a lot of variety with home goods and clothes, accessories. We found some cute things went on a accidental shopping spree but glad it's going to a good cause. My gripe....It's unprofessional when the workers are having LOUD personal conversations and making insinuations. Upon me grabbing my bags the lady behind the counter suggested I should smile more. Really..? I just spent 100 I'm perfectly fine thank you. It's called Resting B*tch Face. How about you tend to customers, the register and minding your own business. read more

This place is outstanding! And the people who work here are a delight. I found a merino Yohji Yamamoto sweater for $6 and some incredible dishes for $2 each. The cashier noticed me hanging clothing that I found on the floor, and she discounted some of my items out of appreciation! I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area. read more

One of my fav thrift shops! Pricing can be hit or miss, some items are overpriced, others are a bargain. They have 20% off discount on wednesdays. They also have silent auction on items in the window display. The inventory varies (as does any thrift store) but you can def find a lot of gems here. Def sign up for their rewards program. You get $5 reward just for signing up! You get boomerang cash back for purchases and they never expire ^_^ I wish more thrift stores did this! Yelp hours are incorrect: they are closed Sunday and are only open until 6 pm Monday until Saturday. read more

New Staff Members Don't Like Black People After years of patronage (donating and buying) with great experiences with the previous friendly and respectful staff I was treated poorly by the two (unknown to me) staffers working tonight. Neither of the two chatting staff members (one behind and one in front of the check out counter) acknowledged me standing beside them and I had to interrupt their personal conversation to ask to use the fitting room. A sigh and eye roll later I was told that There was a six item limit and I could not take my bag in with me. I have never been told this the dozens of times I've asked to use a fitting room there and the staff seemed perfectly happy to let another White woman customer in with her larger bag (I'm Black and present as a man). I'll stick to the JP location and hope that I don't encounter either of the discriminating workers again. read more

Boomerangs has such a cool, unique feel to it that I love walking around here even though I don't consistently buy anything. I used to find clothes here more often, but I've noticed over the past couple of years that the quality has been unfortunately been worse and worse - more items that are stretched, faded, pilled, etc. However, once in a while, I do still come across an unexpected gem. The book selection is much more consistent. You can absolutely tell you're in Cambridge - a lot of interesting non-fiction titles (not just self-help and cookbooks), as well as literary fiction and poetry. It's also worth mentioning that unlike most thrift stores in the area, including Goodwill across the street, Boomerangs does offer furniture. If you happen to be a student, my first recommendation for inexpensive furniture is the MIT Furniture Exchange, but my husband and I have purchased a dresser and desk here, both in very good condition. If you're looking for a place to donate items, the process at Boomerangs is very quick! Just fill out a tax receipt (if desired) and you're on your way. I donate at least once a season, and am always glad to be able to support the AIDS Action Committee. read more

Boomerangs is the best thrift store in Cambrdige/Somerville, mostly because it's competition is really not that great(see the Goodwill's/Salvation Army) First the bad: this is a small store in a busy area that gets pretty busy, cramped and picked over. People come and shop here because unlike the Goodwill across the street it does not smell terrible, employees can play their own music(so its not a staticy pop station on all the time), and are friendly and professional(they have the ability to check people out quickly when it gets busy unlike Goodwill's). Prices vary from cheap to high. While some things start out overpriced, if it doesn't sell it will be marked down and markdowns are not based on a convoluted color system which is nice. They often have nice furniture which I would say is on the pricey side, but it looks like it moves quick so if it is selling at their prices why should they change it? What is also nice is that items are hand priced and for the most part that pricing is logical. The layout and quality of stuff is nice, it's not great for men's clothing and I wouldn't expect to buy something every-time you come in but because it so convenient it's not a big deal to leave here empty handed. While in reality this is more of a 3 star store, relative to the Salvation Army on Winter Hill and the Central Goodwill it's a easy 4 mostly because of it's cleanliness and competent employees(Hey Goodwill, your employees would probably be much more enthusiastic if you didn't treat them like garbage). read more

A couple of years back, this store was one of my favorites. I became familiar courtesy of the South End store. I've bought floor lamps, several plant stands, a funky mirror and a truly lovely ceramic. Approximately 3 years ago I returned, only to be totally disappointed by the new set-up. The "finds" have been "pre-found", and you must bid on them. This assures the store the highest price for good items, and they are (after all) a charity, but nothing for the hunter to purchase. I return once every year, in hopes they have realized they've destroyed the fun, and re-established the original format. No success. They are a fine Aids-based charity, but other than making a donation, nothing to be found here ... no bargains, no fun, no deals, no joy. Truly too bad. read more

So, being one of those Cambridge locals means it takes a lot of effort to get out of the hood. When Boomerangs showed up in the old Attic store, (a) I was psyched to get that weird place out of Central Square, but (b) uber confused ... never heard of it ... because I never knew it started in JP and what not... not such a fan of a banner for a sign. Enter: friends of JP. Visiting from out of town, these past-JP residents brightened from their hangovers (or was it mine) when they saw the sign. I just thought it was a strange junk store... and don't get me wrong, it kind of is... but it's really more than junk. It's cool junk that seems qualified to be brought to my home to be used as a container for my cat's food or wear around my waist at thrift store amazing pricing. It's the Home Goods store of thrift shops, doing your home good, but more importantly, your wallet. The find of the day, which I didn't purchase, was a $65 solid wood set of drawers. It was one of those nice wide dressers holding two columns of 4 stacked drawers. Really great condition and enormous enough for two. And if weren't for the two column design, it would have been wide enough to pull a Kramer (when he hosted the Japanese businessmen in his apt). It could use a little paint restoration, but looked like they pre-stripped it for you. They also were selling a couple twin bed frames for $15. $15! Such a steal.
