This is a nice shop. There isn't a lot of inventory but what they do have is pretty nice. It's a cute arrangement. I think most of their inventory is mix of vintage and maybe some recycled vintage. It looked mostly vintage though. Prices are usually $30-$55 or so. It's not the cheapest but I think most vintage is usually not dirt cheap. Some of the dresses were really cute and I would have totally worn them! read more

Vintage shops like this don't exsit anymore where i live! they've all been picked over by scouts and sadly lost their charm. The prices are top notch for the items found. An awesome head scarf for two bucks with colors to die for. Then a hot little pair of cameo earrings with a chunky lucite backing- a total smash with the homies back home. They were sold to me for a whopping six dollars. the clothing was pretty fresh. nothing i couldn't rock at a bboy jam. definately something you can call all your own. i wish i brought a second case with me. love the fact there wasnot just clothing but also some tasty little home accents and whatnots. the staff was great, well at least the lass at the front who might have been british??? none the less she was a major help in reassuring me that my combinations were not crazy but original, young, and sweet. what a gal. lOVE her. ooooh how i'm wishing i had place like this at home. read more

This is a rather small but nice little store. If you like vintage clothing then you will enjoy coming here. It is a consignment store so you may or may not be able to get what you want in your size since in a lot of cases here there is only one of everything when it comes to the clothing. They have some really nice accessories here too and there is something for everyone. The place is well organized and the service is great. read more

I like a lot of old stuff but I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of the old stuff in the picture that they have here I mean it kind of just looks a little bit old-fashioned but I don't really have a problem with all the stuff because it's cool but you know to each their own sometimes when I go to my grandmas we go to a fresh shop and the fresh shop that we go to is definitely not as good as this one but it's not like the worst thing ever and they have lots of TVs and it used to be an old school they converted it to the first stop and I but anyways yeah this one seems cool I like the red couch but I am not impressed read more

There are plenty of junky items to pick up, squint and blow dust off and put right back down but if you love grandmother dresses, you are in luck! Plus you always end up chit chatting with the laid back helpful staff and some other funky customers who gasp in awe when you put on that perfect red leather jacket you've always wanted but was too pansy to really buy. They are the ultimate confidence boosters AND you walk out with only $10 spent. Not bad. It's sort of sad that people go in here to look for "costumes" whereas I actually go in there looking for something to wear for the weekend. Oh well. I also enjoy passing by when it's warm outside and seeing all kinds of "Oh boy I've always wanted one of those global studies classroom globes in my living room" pieces scattered in front. Nobody really comes outside to see if you steal either. You can look and not feel pressured. It sure does it for me... for the rest of the day in Harvard Square at least. read more

Oonas feels more like my grandmothers closet than any vintage store I have been to in Boston. Enter through the main door into a room of guys apparel and a desk with a store attendant then take a small passage to a room of vintage womens dress. You turn around to notice two more small conjoined rooms, one with mostly womens vintage clothing and another that centers around a cashier and jewelery case and focuses primarily on accessories like wallets, jewelery and hats. The store feels stuffed to the brim with items and seems like the type of place you have to search long and hard to find something, but I would head here specifically for some certain items - womens leather jackets (sooo many and in various colors for $30) - mens vets - boy scout shirts/costumes - actual vintage clothing from older period in odd sizes - vintage womens dresses, like the crazy over the top ones For the size and crazy all over the place selection, the prices are VERY GOOD! There are several $2, $5 and $10 not only outside but inside too! read more

Oona's just doesn't ever work out for me. I liked the old cluttery place and I like the new swankier setup. I've gone a few times, always hopeful, always leaving empty-handed. Maybe I just have bad luck? I don't know. What I do know is that homegirls in here need to learn how to smile. read more

This is a convenience vintage store compared to the mega-mart vintage store that is Garment District. Don't go in here expecting any great range, most visits for me have ended up empty-handed but then this is often the case with used clothes - they don't have the one you want in your size. What they do have though are some pretty imaginative and eclectic items which makes this shop a very fun place to get a 10 minute break from a Harvard Square shopping day. And when you do buy something - rather than just try stuff on and laugh at each other - the staff are very nice. read more

This is a great place to browse, but a tough place to buy. Like most vintage/ consignment shops, a trip to Oona's can prove to be fruitful or fruitless, depending on the day. And how much you feel like digging. My absolute favorite sweater of all time was a great Oona's score, though the last 2 times I've visited I have left empty handed and kind of bummed. *shrug* They pack a LOT of clothes into a tiny store. There's a very nice variety of vintage cocktail dresses, nightgowns, sweaters, pants, jeans, hats, scarves, and jewelry... Plus, bonus: JUMPSUITS!! Like skin tight, full body, wide leg pant jumpsuits!!! In black, silver, even lime green! Fuck yeah. I don't know who wears those things, but whoever does ROCKS. read more

As a long time Oona shopper, I HAVE to gripe Oona's is an institution in Harvard Square- right up there with Harvard University!! But the new owners and sales people- and I use THAT term loosely, have set about to destroy said institution. Gone is the wonderful clutter- such fun to paw through in search of long forgotten treasures. Goodbye to 'vintage', hello to 'thrift store'. How have I not known about this place until recently?! Oona's is a horse of a different color, definitely. The men's section (which is all I can really speak of) is extremely organized and everything is high quality. Essentially, a hipster would have an o-gasm if he walked in here. The tie collection is amazing, flannel and plaid EVERYWHERE, and really awesome dressy clothes. Everything is dry cleaned before they sell it (which is amazing -- no one wants to wear freshly worn clothes from someone else). The staff are all super friendly. I went here with my housemate to find some new clothes and I was really on the fence of buying a new tie (a guy can never have too many, right?) Anyways, as my housemate was trying on a super neat dress (for pretty cheap) we began casually chatting about my weekend, life, and how I should buy the tie. He sold me -- and I bought it for $6.00 If you have a few moments to spare, check this place out. It's not too large, but it has a bunch of gems. read more

I am so so so torn about Oona's. They have so very much great clothing. It runs the gamut from ridiculous costume wear to the gorgeous and amazing vintage. While the smallest place we visited in a marathon shopping day in search of 80s gear, this place had the most and best items to offer. Also found was a gorgeous leather coat, Tracy Bonham tee, Ducky on a hanger and so very much more. Seriously quality selection. Some of the items are truly vintage and priced as such. Likewise on the thrift. My issue was the staff. They were less than enthused. I don't know if it was because there were three of us in their small store, the fact that we were chatty, hyper and silly, the weather, the fact that it was Sunday or some cause unbeknown to me. Maybe they weren't thrilled with us laughing over some of the items - but when it's Blush Pink (not Bashful) and poofy, how can you not giggle? Only 7 items in the changing room at a time. I think they're okay with pictures - if nothing else we didn't get yelled at. And I think the girl ringing me up was glad to pass me off when she wasn't the one working the register with the credit card machine. The same girl told my friend an item was priced as is because of the potentially 30 year old stains when she was only inquiring about if they'd come out so she could wear it as opposed to trying to negotiate the price. So.... to recap. Awesome stuff. I'm just hoping the staff was having a really off day. I'll likely be back to dig for treasures or future costuming needs. read more

Before: A few good finds but a lot of costume-y crap. Hard to move around. The older woman who ran it would just sit by the register and stare at you. I probably only bought something 1 out of every 5 visits. After: More organized, with a lot of the less practical stock no longer cluttering everything in sight. I found a vintage Penguin shirt in excellent shape for $12 - most places would ask $20 or more for this one. Store staffed by a couple of friendly young ladies, one of whom identified herself as the new owner and explained that re-stocking the store was ongoing. I look forward to seeing what else turns up here. It's too bad they don't have a space the size of Garment District's to work with, or they could really do some fun things. read more

An update is sorely needed here, wow! I checked out the "new" Oona's (and actually wrote an article about it, which was just published in the 2011-2012 "Charles River Review" at Harvard, unfortunately not yet available online) about a year ago and WOW. Wow! What a great update since the new owner bought it from her boss, Kathleen (the namesake Oona's mom, the owner since 1972). It's "true vintage" now, with a few items from the 90s and most from prior. The men's section has been expanded, and includes a fancy-shmancy hipster apothecary section (looks great for gifts for your metro-but-masculine man). Most items are arranged by spectrum (pretty!) and all items are dry-cleaned. You can find a genuine 40s lbd or a 60s poncho or some bell bottoms or... well, pretty much anything. Since this is vintage and people didn't used to eat quite so 'well,' plus sizes are naturally limited, so bear this in mind if you're not a wee lass (as I am not). The staff is sooo nice and super cute (and stylin'!). The place is just gorgeous now, a beautifully curated boutique as opposed to a hodge-podge of halloween costumes and broomstick skirts. When I was in the front room was covered with damask wallpaper hung with flat-rate-of-$15 necklaces... hope they've kept that price point! I will be back soon. read more

I walked into this store today while waiting for a friend and was blown away. The store is small and quaint, and the selection is not huge but it is extremely well curated. All of their items are in fantastic condition with very minor flaws (if any at all). Women's dresses were in the $40-60 range, which is very affordable for a vintage store where you don't have to do any work to find treasures. One thing that really struck me about this store is that they go through the trouble of "standardizing" their sizes as much as possible. A lot of vintage is custom-made or has odd sizing, so they have measured the items and assigned them modern sizes to make it easier to find things that fit. The salesgirl was very helpful and picked out a few dresses for me to try, one of which I got. A gorgeous pink shift with scalloped edges for $50. My boyfriend got a pair of Bruno Magli dress shoes, which would run $500 retail, for $45. Needless to say, I will be coming back. read more

Have shopped here for years and went in for the first time since spring last week. It looks great, the girl working has been with the store forever. Always incredibly friendly, funny and knowledgeable as is the rest of the staff. She remembered me and my style and went out of her way to help me find things to try on. It's nice to have a business in the square that's still locally owned and friendly like that. The shop is a little more upscale and pricey than it used to be- I miss the days of quality simple vintage staples. But there are still some to be found and definitely a must visit if you are shopping for an event. read more

I'm a long-time San Franciscan, visiting Cambridge/Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta. During a lull in the rowing, I was browsing an independent bookstore in Harvard Square and I overheard a girl asking the clerk if there were any thrift stores in the neighborhood. "Just one", he said -- "Oona's". He gave her directions while I eavesdropped, and then I high-tailed it the 6 or 7 blocks to the shop in question. Now, I've been buying and wearing vintage clothes since 1979 (feel free to do the maths) and, living in SF, I'm spoilt for choice with places that run the gamut from super-cheap (Community Thrift) to super-pricey (La Rosa). But I really wanted to experience what Harvard's take on vintage might be. Oona's delivered the goods, quite literally. It's tough to find men's vintage clothing that's not largely kitsch or slimy polyester, and doesn't attract hordes of ironic hipsters who clog the aisles, asking each other "Does this make my butt look 2007?" Well, Oona's had an excellent, dedicated men's section that was clubby and inviting with loads of vintage button-down oxfords, wool and cashmere knit vests, some excellent shoes, plaid jackets, ties, embroidered belts -- in short, it was a little slice of preppy heaven, taking me back to my dorm room closet at boarding school. I found a spectacular Pierre Cardin double-breasted wool sportcoat from about 1969 that fit me like the proverbial glove, and for about half of what it would've cost me in SF! The two young women in the shop were charming and helpful (not to mention cute), even directing me to the nearest good taqueria (one of the most important bits of travel info a fellow can have). Oona's is about 2,500 miles too far away from my home to be a regular spot to patronize, but I'm glad I found them and I'll bet you will be too. Their women's clothing selection looked even larger than their men's, so there's something for everyone...everyone who has decent taste and an appreciation for things that last. read more

Every year at Harvard bschool there is an event called the Priscilla Ball (yes, it's related to The Adventures of Priscilla, a cult classic). The guys dress up in drag and the women...well...let's just say they don't wear much. Anyways, Oona's totally hooked me and my friends up with some "sexy" outfits and the staff was helpful. I don't think I'd shop here for real clothes, but for costume stuff it'll definitely do the trick. They've got great wigs and long gloves too! read more

I still pop in here about monthly to check out the selection. It's a lovely place to peruse good quality vintage items. The new management has a great eye for cute vintage stuff that totally works in the present day and it is a pleasant atmosphere in which to look around. This past weekend, they had high-waisted Levi's shorts and high-waisted flared jeans that looked like deadstock from the 70s. There are still a few deadstock black leather jackets from the 60s that wouldn't look out of place next to a more recent moto jacket. The jewelry display is inspiring me to re-organize my own accessories. There are even glasses! Fedoras and suspenders for men! Business shirts, casual shirts, chambray shirts - everything for a dapper gentleman's closet. I do have to take off one star for the customer service, er lack of. Every time I've walked in, no one has bothered to greet me - and I'm one of maybe 2-3 customers in the store. The young looking females behind the counter always are wrapped up in their conversation. They don't acknowledge you, they don't offer to help, they make no effort to make a sale. Maybe it's the New England attitude toward customer service, but you would think a small, independent business that doesn't advertise much or tweet regularly (Apr27 - Jun9 nothing!) would at least put forth the effort to cultivate a relationship with the people who show up in their business and are eager to spend their hard-earned money on something special. ***updated 7/17/11: one of the managers PM'd me that they are working on their staff, revamping their website (I hadn't found a link from a Google search), and active on Facebook (which wouldn't appear on Google?). read more

I almost always find some amazing gems here for both mens and women's vintage. Love their accessories selection; I find quality vintage pieces at a reasonable price. Love the gold tone belt I picked up last time! The selection is always fresh, and things are always changing. This shop is more curated than other places that I shop for vintage, and for that I'm grateful. There's always something cute or dapper, but as with any good hunt, you must have patience to look. read more

The first time I went to Oona's, it was 1999. The store was fun but very cluttered for such a small space. I hadn't been back in a while, and I read on Yelp it was under new management, so I decided to go and poke around. The first thing I noticed was how the space was redesigned. There was much less clothing, but it was of a higher quality. It felt "curated" rather than random items thrown together, as it did before. I felt like I had found a secret British attic. The lighting seemed a bit dim, but there was an abundance of table lamps. There was a section for jewelry and accessories. Many of the necklaces were in the $15-20 range. They were against the back wall and spaced out, so you could really see the details. There was a table with a crisp white tablecloth, and a variety of sunglasses. They also had some French milled soap for about $10, with fancy labels. Buying a few of those would be an ideal hostess present. I am a bigger size (22), so I didn't look at the clothes too much, as I knew they would not fit. Vintage clothes are already cut for women of a smaller size. I saw some great pieces though. There were a bunch of party dresses with excellent construction. There are also shoes, I should point out. Maybe you can find a matching outfit. There were 2-3 dressing rooms with full length mirrors inside. There is also an alcove full of men's clothing. Though it was vintage, there weren't outlandish pieces. It was just clothing you'd want to wear that happened to be vintage. Case in point, I saw a linen/broadcloth button down with excellent stitching for $29. I was in the market for accessories, and was not disappointed. I found a silk Yves St. Laurent scarf for only $15. I actually asked the salesclerk if it was the correct price. It was indeed. My friend found a Liberty of London pink ascot, similarly priced. Oona's scarf collection is unparallelled. This would be a place you'd want to go after you got paid. Lack of money was the only reason I didn't buy more. BTW, the salesclerk was precious. She was showing us ways to style the silk scarf, including a turban. If anyone could pull off turbans for non-religious daywear, it would be her. She made it look 20s era chic, like Daisy Buchanan might wear on a Sunday. And the owner was there, sorting through clothes on the floor. She was laid back and full of good tips. All in all, it's worth going. Oona's is near Hong Kong restaurant, on the outskirts of Harvard Square. Leave me some scarves though! I still regret not getting the purple Hershey's silk scarf. read more

When I was in high school, my uniform was boy's jeans, white t-shirt under "interesting" top/sweater/coat, a big ole' necklace and several rings. Most of my outfits were purchased here, found during long shopping trips with my other similarly counter-culter-meets-uber-nerd outfitted friends. I love that today, 15 years later, I can still find the best vintage around. OK, I dress much more normo now, but I like to browse and Oona's is still chock full of amazing finds. There are a few caveats: 1.) It's tiny and crowded. (But the caveat to that caveat is that even with all the smooshed clothing, most of it is good stuff. It's not piles of crap like at some second-hand places). 2.) The staff can be grumpy/aloof/snooty. 3.) But they might be like that because it's hot and stuffy in there. However, I find that you will most likely walk out of here with something unique that will last and that you got for a great price, so the 5 stars stand. I'm a huge Oon's fan - this store has supplied the majority of my costume party needs for my two year business school career. Off the top of my head, my favorite item is my Jerry Seinfeld inspired puffy shirt, which I wore in a Pilgrim costume for a Thanksgiving themed throwdown. I have also picked up an extensive line of leisurewear that includes many Hawaiian shirts that have traveled to remote beaches with me. Some of this stuff actually slips into my normal wardrobe rotation (I love you red madras shorts). Oona's has a unique selection of products and nice people working there. Great spot. While I enjoy buying used clothes occasionally, I would like to point out to other reviewers that purchasing new clothes does not actually exploit developing countries. Because these nations have a comparative advantage in producing textiles, they are able to increase export-driven GDP and ultimately raise living standards for their populations. Only economic development can bring the world's poor out of destitution, not redistribution and protectionist policy. read more

So I havent been here in about two years, so when i strolled in the other day i was surprised by the new.......everything. different store set-up. different wardrobe. even different staff! the matronly clothes have been replaced by super retro, well maintained pieces that can easily be modern day chic. Oona's has everything going for it. The staff were friendly and helpful, the clothes were reasonably priced (A nice warm shearling-lined coat from the 70s? $25! Seriously that is how much things cost at Goodwill these days), but most importantly, the interior of the shop and the displays are works of art. The multiple rooms that comprise this shop are gorgeous, decorated with stunning vintage treasures, and very well-organized. It reminds me a bit of the Gardner Museum, in that it looks like a lovely old home converted into a space for public enjoyment. The jewelry was especially delightful. Lots of gorgeous lockets, metal filigree, intricate pendants, and the like, for under $20. There are also plenty of clothing options for men here- possibly even more than for the ladies. This was my second visit (first was for Yelp prom) so I was excited to look for things I might actually wear as opposed to items someone from AH-HA would have worn. However, my excitement was cut short by the grouchy worker in the men's section. When we walked up we asked if they were closing soon and another worker said we had about 30 minutes. Not a huge amount of time but enough to browse quickly and bounce. By the time I worked my way back to the men's room I was greeted by another worker, who asked if she could help me. After hearing that I was just browsing she said "look quick we close at 7". Ummm...thanks? This didn't really make me want to purchase anything so much as mill around and piss her off. Which I did, until the novelty wore off. I will go back, this time well before closing to explore a little more. It was nice to see a fairly sizable amount of stuff for guys. Hopefully I'll get a different employee back there. I'm giving the third star because they really did have some interesting things. read more

The space is really well organized, and I always find something good here! They sell real vintage (ie, not consignment), but unlike many other vintage stores out there (ahem ahem, Artifaktori) there are some major differences: 1. Not uber overpriced 2. Everything is in very good to excellent condition 3. Not too costumey (ie, this place is not overrun with poodle skirts, plaid pants, and gingham) 4. There is a decent selection of Men's AND Women's clothing 5. Interesting selection of jewelry, which is very reasonably priced (yes, it's costume jewelry but still, it's cheap!) Minus one star because, there really is no shoe selection and it's still expensive enough that I have to think twice about buying some things (ie, it's reasonable but not a total steal). read more

I was bummed that Vintage Revenge was so expensive. Good thing I was curious enough to walk into Oona's pretty much down the street. Girl at the counter played Belle & Sebastian (win). Said that it's under new ownership and that the new owner is way cooler than the old one. Whatever that means? I just know I had a great time browsing. Needed a few happier shirts for work and got a few good quality vintage (60s, 50s) dress shirts for work at a reasonable price (each one between $8-$20). I had to stop myself, really. I usually don't leave reviews if I don't have anything nice to say, but I used to love this place and I'm sad about what's happened to it. They had a great selection of vintage menswear that beat most other shops around. Since the remodel, and perhaps change of ownership, it's overpriced with very little vintage stock. I used to find good vintage Oxford shirts there for under $20. Now everything is modern (WESC and other "hip" brands) for over $80. Garment District now gets all of my business, which is a shame because I liked this place better. read more

Have to write this review- Oona's will always be one of the reasons I love Cambridge. It's so Harvard Square- funky, funny, weird and a little pricey. Whenever I go to Oona's I usually find something I love. Unique cool old clothes, rings, hats, sunglasses. You need to spend a few minutes really looking around- but for me that is half the fun.
