I signed for $20.91 for said ONE drink after their 18.88% surcharge that they allege (Bordel) keeps their business fully staffed, give healthcare benefits, and a livable wage. BUT somehow Chey S. Still decided to alter my receipt and give her a $10 tip. Which I did not give her. To which is also illegal. If this surcharge that they claim allows for them to take care of their employees - then why are they stealing from their customers? Anyone who comes here or has been here- take pictures of your receipts after you've signed and totaled them. I see in the reviews Chey S. Is a commonly denominator in bad reviews. Not sure why she's still employed here. Committing crimes and businesses letting it slide isn't a good look. Still waiting on my refund of $10 for that check 72 from Thursday the 23rd at 11:39pm that I have yet to receive! Idc to pay the $20 for one mediocre drink, but stealing is completely unacceptable. And it being excused even more so. Unfortunately I don't live in Chicago or I would've filed a police report, since this is FRAUD AND THEFT. Just beware of anyone who visits. My friend and I stumbled upon this place while looking for something to eat. While they did not have any food, this place is absolutely a great time. We had no idea what we were walking into but I am so glad we decided to check it out. They play a vast variety of music and have live entertainment. Our bartender was so sweet and made sure everyone was able to place their drink orders despite having a packed bar. I am so happy we chose to come here to celebrate a birthday! It's the perfect place to go to to celebrate an occasion or a big girls night. Reservations are most definitely encouraged especially if you want to watch the show (make sure you get reservations for stage view). Since Bordel is technically a speakeasy, you'll find the hidden door right before you enter Mama Delia. Fair warning, it can be tricky to find because they hide it very well! Once you find the door you'll make your way upstairs and enter to get into the bar.The bar itself has a cool undercover speakeasy vibe with lots of jewel tones and velvet decor. The space isn't large in terms of width - it's actually more on the narrow side. There's a ton of seats that face the stage for the performances and then there's a whole bar in the back.  You will be charged a $10 fee to watch the show (we booked ahead and it's highly recommended). The show itself is AMAZING. We watched three burlesque performers that were incredible. The host was so fun and super interactive! I don't think $10 a person was necessarily worth it though, as we were seated far away from the stage. Performers would occasionally come around to get money after their performance, which where we were seated we couldn't see a whole lot of the performers, but yet paid extra for it. Visited for a friend's birthday and were really excited to see the burlesque performance. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to expectations. While we anticipated a lively, crowded atmosphere, the performances stayed entirely at the very front of the venue and never moved throughout the space. Guests seated farther back didn't get much of a view, which defeated the purpose of coming specifically for the show. It would greatly improve the experience if the show were announced and guests invited to sit, or if performers moved through the aisle so everyone could enjoy it. When I briefly stepped aside to catch a glimpse of the performance, I was told that unless I needed the restroom, I should return to my table. The interaction felt dismissive. Several staff members also appeared visibly bothered while working the floor, which took away from the celebratory atmosphere. That said, the mixologist crafted delicious cocktails and the DJ kept the energy up with great music--both were definite highlights. I went to Bordel for a Saturday performance, and boy oh boy what a treat. It's a speakeasy style place so it's hidden by a door covered in grass and then you walk up a steep narrow hall way with walls covered in grass and pin up girls . It was super cute. The performances were great , it was the hosts birthday so we got a rare performance from her. We also got a the first ever fire show. The reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 because the Gin fizz and old fashion drinks could use some work. The expresso martini was good though. I love a good speakeasy discovery. Parking is ALWAYS horrible on the area so that was to be expected. The entry was right by the first entrance covered by artificial greeney with a small know. The vibe is dark and sexy. I loved it. 1030 live entertainment. I loved the idea of it all. I would definitely say the menu has very small selections so don't come hungry. Just tapas are available. Overpriced for sure. Especially the $15 fries that were definitely from a freezer bag and not seasoned at all. Drinks are one of the highlights. I live for a good Expresso Martini. I visited last Friday night, which was the weekend before Christmas, as this is one of my co-worker's favorite cocktail bars/speakeasy's. The bar is upstairs through a separate entrance from Mama Delia's (food is also good). Me and my friend arrived around 7:30pm and the hostess asked if we wanted to pay a $10 cover for the 8pm Cabaret show, but we just wanted to go for drinks. There were plenty of booths available as it was the weekend before Christmas, but I can see it filling up pretty fast on any other Friday night. We arrived at the bar and there were some people there, but we were able to find two seats just fine. I took a look at the menu and I went with my go to cocktail, the Old Fashioned, as I am a huge bourbon fan. I was ok with the bourbon even though an Old Fashioned should be made with Rye Whiskey. The Old Fashioned was very good and they served it with a rock, which is always a must! My friend ordered the Lemon Drop and she said it was probably the best one that she has had in Chicago! I ordered a 2oz pour of Booker's Bourbon neat, which was $27. Not a bad price for an exceptional (easy to find) bourbon at 127 proof. They had a pretty good selection of bourbon with pretty good prices as well (unlike Delilah's and Longman & Eagle). Prices were very good especially with how good the cocktails were at $16/cocktail. It beats $18/cocktail for Evan Williams in the West Loop!!! The bartenders were friendly and always filling up the water cups. Christiana, who formerly worked at the Aviary, was great! She definitely taught us a few things about cocktails and mixology, which was pretty neat. Overall, Bordel is a very good cocktail bar in Wicker Park. It definitely beats the Machine and the cocktails are better crafted than the Revel Room. Came on a Thursday night for the burlesque show. You can reserve a table online through Resy. The information listed for the Speakeasy is all wrong! The show is $15 per person and as others have mentioned you can only see the show if your table is in the "stage area" so keep that in mind when you book. The show is a rip off, only 30 minutes and was the strangest burlesque show I have ever been to. They ask for tips through venmo or cash which is fine, but when I got my check for the drinks and apps I ordered they expect you to tip 20% on the tickets for the "burlesque show." Come have a drink at the bar if that, but dont bother going to the burlesque show not worth the price when the show is 30 minutes long and the business wants tips on your check for the show and through venmo and cash. This was the worst burlesque experience I have ever attended. The host came on the microphone multiple times, spending 10-20 minutes each time explaining what the proper behavior is for a burlesque show attendee. She gave rules on how to tip, not to record the entire show, etc. It was very crude, and all of my guests were turned off and shocked by the host's presentations. Additionally, I booked the reservation over a month in advance. My guests began arriving 30 minutes early. We were seated in the back room, in the very last and furthest section from the performance. The front room was empty! We had no idea that the show would only be in the front room, so it was surprising to us that, as everyone else arrived, they were seated in the front room. We ended up being the only guests in the back. When the show started, 1-3 of my guests went to the front room to see the show and figure out why we weren't included. They were told they were not allowed to stand in the room, so we had no chance of actually enjoying the show. I spoke to our waitress and then a manager, and I was told that my reservation did not specify that I wanted to be in the front room. As someone who had never been there before, how would I know that I needed to request seating in the front room for the burlesque show at a burlesque bar? They also told me that, even with a reservation, seating was first-come, first-served. We were among the first to arrive, and the front room was empty! We even saw some people who arrived later, were seated in the back, then moved to the front--so they clearly didn't have a reservation. We were the last to find out that we weren't going to see the show. To make matters worse, this was my birthday celebration, which I had even noted in the reservation, and the drinks were subpar. Next thing we know, we are opening up a fake door turned wall, walking up some steps and opening another door to a dark bar room with good house music playing! There is definitely this cozy Speakeasy-vibe with a Spanish twist. The food menu to this bar is from the restaurant downstairs (Mama Delia) the shareable tapas are amazing and leave nothing to be desired. Not overly salty nor heavy. I've been to many speakeasies and this is hands down the coolest one ever. Great night here at Mama Delia & Bordel on New Years Eve! The house old fashioned is amazing. We ordered the ribeye, scallops, paella, and beef cheek and everything was awesome! I wasn't a huge fan of the octopus but lately I haven't been a fan of that dish at any restaurant in Chicago! So to each their own.
