As a Gemini celebrating my birthday season with other Geminis, it only felt right to celebrate at Gemini! When we arrived, I was a bit concerned because we hadn't received our menus. And that's because the menus were being printed with a personalized birthday message! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and struck the perfect balance of checking in without being overbearing. The mussels (provençal-style) were delicious and enough to share among three people. The truffle-parmesan fries: We couldn't tell if they were too salty or just salty enough, but somehow we couldn't stop eating them! I ordered the baby wedge salad with chicken, and while the chicken looked small at first, it ended up being a large enough portion to last the salad. We were also surprised with complimentary desserts: the Chocolate Chunk Cookie Skillet and Buck Russell's Cake. Though I'm not a sweet person, my dining companions thoroughly enjoyed them. read more

Over all this place was okay, and when I say okay it was mediocre. How ever I would like to point out that the staff and I repeat the staff was very friendly not to mention very welcoming. I came here with three others and we all ordered different things from the brunch menu along with a few drinks. The atmosphere here is open, modern, and pretty eye catching, we all heard a few negative comments about brunch here and rather than just taking words of advice we came anyways. To be honest we should've went elsewhere, the only thing about the food that actually seemed to have any flavor was the fries and even they were a little salty like my wallet when we left LOL The Jumbo (not so much) Lump Crab Benedict at $25 was honestly boring lacking any flavor also it didn't even come with potatoes I ended up sharing my Lincoln Park Turkey Club that was good but even it was pretty basic at $21, the Burger at $21 literally looked like something off the kids menu the bun was bigger than the patty LOL and the Blackened Chicken Caesar at $19 was more like an appetizer size and the chicken at least it was juicy not dry. Other reviews about brunch here seem to be about the same and honestly I think it's funny they don't even try to elevate their food when so many say about the same things. I think the only reason why people come to this place is 1. It's located in Lincoln Park and 2. that makes it a trendy spot to eat. So why bother fixing anything when it's just trendy and flavorless Their brunch is mediocre but apparently dinner is where it's at. However after the experience with brunch I'm not even sure I would even go back. **4.5 Stars** Hard to believe this was our first visit to Gemini, but definitely won't be the last. We were glad to get a seat out on the patio on a lovely Tuesday evening after having spent time at the Zoo just a short walk away. The patio is lovely, two servers handling the large space extremely well. There were some things we had that were standouts, and others that were just fine. The half chicken was excellent, cooked perfectly and rubbed with delicious warming spices, the potatoes and pickled veggies the perfect counterbalance. Similar idea to the dish at Armitage Alehouse, but better seasoned and a lot lighter. The steamed mussels rivaled those of Armitage as well at a fraction of the cost. Very different broth, but the mussels themselves were excellent. We were also really impressed with the tuna tartare, an excellent blend of flavors and textures we could have had seconds on. The crispy shrimp rolls were a slight miss, largely because the shrimp were finely chopped, rather than sliced chunks. You ended up getting more the essence of shrimp than shrimp itself. We also felt the skillet cookie was just fun, no better or worse than we've had at places like Crosby Kitchen. Overall, a really good meal that scrapes being really great at times, and does it at affordable prices with friendly, attentive service. read more

Best restaurant in Chicago! Been here many times, and finally tried the ricotta dumplings! These were so good and filling, a fun Italian switch up from my normal order. We also go the branzino (forgot to picture) and wow 10/10 need to get that again. And the Caesar salad with added salmon was amazing! Came here for brunch with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. Gemini was so kind to write a special message on our menu which was such a lovely touch that we both adored! Unfortunately because the menu was paper we couldn't make it last through our meal to take home as a memory but we have a picture :) I would recommend potentially a harder stock paper just for those customized ones. We sat on the patio because we brought our dog. Very dog friendly spot - one of the managers came to play with him and give him water and a treat. Again.. nice touch! I do wish they had a bigger menu. I kind of wanted breakfast but nothing in their breakfast menu really called my name. The shrimp & grits are my usual go to at places but the bbq through me off. Instead we opted for the sandwiches - he got a burger & I got a chicken sandwich. They printed personalized menus that said happy birthday on them which was unexpected and really special. I've eaten at Gemini over the years and have been able to sample a lot of what's on offer. I've had most of the specials but will usually get either the swordfish or the steak frites. Those are typically very good which is why I come back. The burger though. Why is it such a consistent disappointment? It's small, has the pancetta (a nice rubbery disc of salt) and just seems like kind of an afterthought to the otherwise well-considered menu. I've been eating it on occasion for 10+ years here always with the hope that it has improved. I would love to see a do-over on the burger. It would be great to have a place in the neighborhood that consistently delivered. As it stands, it's a distant second to RJ Grunt's, Small Cheval and not even in the same realm as Armitage Alehouse's burger. Really hoping I get to come back and revise this review to rave about how much better it got. The staff is always very nice and attentive as well. I knew on my arrival that I'd love the aesthetics of this corner breakfast restaurant, and guess what, I did! Clean and crisp atmosphere with a gorgeous inside and an absolutely beautiful patio with flowers and vines coming from the sunshade frame (totally spacing on the name of those things right now lol). Our server, Phillip, was very attentive and told us the daily omelette and popular items. I ordered the daily omelette and switched my side out for fruit. Everything was beautifully presented and on the weekends they offer 90-minute bottomless options for cocktails. I went with the Bloody Mary then had the server randomly select all of the others I ordered. Bloody Mary was a little too seasoned and "thick" at first but once it watered down, it was delicious. My favorite though, was the squirtsky. Except the name (TBD). Gold Rush was good but the bourbon boldness wasn't my fave. And then the Bellini is good for those who like bubbles - my stomach and palate at the moment wasn't cut out for that one. My daughter had dined at Gemini during Restaurant Week and suggested we check it out when I was in town this weekend. There is something cool about the restaurant's location and triangular shape. And when you open the door, you can feel the energy of the dining room. To me, that's always a good sign that diners are having a great time. Both were delish. My daughter ordered the Roasted 1/2 Chicken assuming it was prepared like her first time during Restaurant Week. She was disappointed to see the recipe had changed. Not the cooking of the chicken, but the vegetable broth it was served with. She told me she was so wowed with the original recipe that she told her server to thank the Chef. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tataki and loved the flavor and rare presentation. The crispy sushi rice, along with mango and avocado made a tasty dish. For $39, I just wished the serving size was larger. The order was missing the sourdough and the salad greens could have had a tastier dressing.. The crab Benedict was very strange. The hollandaise was orange, not yellow. My Husband had the steak and eggs, and the only thing he was really able to eat for the eggs. The steak looked like two little dried up pieces of shoe leather, and the potatoes were terrible. And don't get me started on the cinnamon bun. A flat piece of dough. I had heard good things about this place, but we were very disappointed and will not be back. Came here with some friends for restaurant week brunch. It was definitely packed when we got there. We were a little late to our reservations but we waited a little bit and was able to get seated.
