Borden's Ice Cream is always a stop for me whenever I am in Lafayette visiting family. It is the only Borden's ice cream shop left, which makes it feel nostalgic and special. I usually keep it simple with a classic sundae, but this time I decided to try a milkshake. Unfortunately, the milkshake was more milk than shake. I ordered cookies and cream and appreciated that they make everything homemade and allow you to select any ice cream flavor for your shake. However, the outcome literally tasted like milk. I did not taste cookies, cream, or any of the richness I expected. The texture and flavor were both overwhelmingly milky, which was disappointing. I will still return because this place is sentimental and has many other great options, but I will stick to my usual sundae moving forward. read more

Not only do they serve the great Borden's ice cream, but you can also enjoy hot dogs, chili dogs, nachos plain or with cheese and/or chili. You could also opt for a bowl of chili. My, oh, my! Splendiferous. Maybe the best ice cream I've ever had. Lots of choices of flavors. However you want it: cup, come, sundae, shake, soda (and I know I'm missing some options). The sundaes we chose allowed for up to 3 flavors of ice cream, the toppings and whipped cream were very, very good. The servings are quite large. Plenty of seating and parking. This place is fire!!! I have been here twice. Once for food and another time for ice cream. The hot dogs are huge and the scones are absolutely delicious. I tried a chocolate nut sundae and was impressed on the load of toppings they put on it. It was covered in chocolate sauce and walnuts. Every bite I took was pure heaven. The shop has your standard ice cream flavors but nothing to write home about. The only flavor that may be unique to this location would be pralines and cream. However, they do offer a "homemade ice cream sandwich" where they will put four small scoops of the ice cream flavor of your choice in between two cookies of your choosing. I had the pleasure of being introduced to this fine establishment and the rest is history. Walking in the door, I felt like a kid that wanted to touch all the fabulous things. I honestly had forgotten about this place until I saw an article about this being the last one in the country in operation. We ended up getting the Banana Split which believe me, was big enough for two. Our Banana Split ($7.68) came with the banana of course, Vanilla, Strawberry and Pistachio Ice Cream. It was topped with Pineapple, Strawberries and whipped Cream on one side ( I don't like whip cream) and a cherry on top. This was a pretty good with the strawberry ice cream and pistachio ice cream tasting really good. The vanilla one was just okay. The strawberries and pineapple topping were great.
