Emmy's is wonderful! Great staff, delicious ice creams, toppings and best of all -- they make their own waffle cones! Yes, you heard it right, they make their own waffle cones daily. Fresh. They will even grab you a fresh baked one out the back upon request. I stumbled on this hidden gem one day after a my last craving for a waffle cone was unfulfilled at a franchise frozen yogurt spot. I won't name any names, but I hadn't been to the unnamed commercial spot in over 20 years. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. The waffle cone was stale and had a tinge of plastic taste. I literally thought I'd been poisoned. After looking up ice cream spots with good reviews, my daughter and I found Emmy's. It was not a disappointment at all. The ice cream flavors were limited but very premium. Although they don't make their own ice cream in-house, they get it from the best place I can think of ordering ice cream from - Wisconsin. They have a ton of really premium toppings for a great price too. Most are just $.50, with some of the nut toppings costing a dollar. My daughter tried their orange sorbet with gummy bears and the swear, they were the best gummy bears I've ever tried. I went straight for my go-to, pistachio almond. When I tell you it's stood up to some of the best Italian creamery pistachio I've had in my home town of New Orleans, I'm not exaggerating. Creamy, rich ice cream with an abundance of pistachio. All I needed was one scoop. So amazing and flavorful. Being skeptical after my last botched experience getting a waffle cone at a major franchise dessert spot, I decided to get my ice cream in their signature waffle cone. Oh. My. Goodness. It's like a confection by itself. Delicately buttery, perfectly sweet and super crispy. I hear they even make waffle cone nachos?! Aside from having great dessert, the staff is friendly and they have a nice little sitting area, complete with a soda-shop type bar to sit. It's not a question of if I'll be back, but if I'll be able to pass it up when I'm in the vicinity. Delicious! read more

Nightmare! I tried getting ice cream the other day at the Lafayette location. It was after school, the week of my 3yo bday, and the baby was asleep in the car. The plan was to run in, get some quick ice cream for the birthday girl, and get back home (I had a work meeting in about 30 minutes). Their waffle bowl maker is ancient and not functional whatsoever, yet nothing says "hey, we don't do waffle bowls because our machine doesn't work" - so I go in thinking it's all good. The poor girls that work there tried over 3 times to make one, and the machine was just not working. Im slightly panicking because I have a meeting creeping up on me, and a toddler demanding the ice cream I promised. I can't imagine I'm the only person they had to try to appease that day for a waffle bowl, and I'm sure other customers blame these high schoolers for not having the right equipment. Probably impacting their tips and leading to poor interactions with impatient customers. I don't know who's in charge of making sure the shop has what it needs, but a simple waffle bowl maker for your ICE CREAM SHOP seems like a key priority to me?!? read more
