Just a few observations from a person who has shopped here for many years (old and new location). The place is huge...and has a good selection of items. Unfortunately they seemed to be a LOT friendlier when they were at the old location. You used to at least get greeted with a hello or "Welcome to Borderland". Now you are lucky if they acknowledge your existence when you walk in. Their Funko Pop selection used to be one of the best I had encountered. Recently it's gone downhill. The section seems to get smaller and smaller every time I go in. Of course they keep the "good" Pops up by the counter, and some are double or triple the price of what they are actually worth. Can find the same Pops on Amazon a lot cheaper (a good reason why people choose Amazon over local..price jacking doesn't bring in customers). Do NOT sell your comics here (or at any comic store for that matter), they will give you a fraction of the value even if they are graded. Sold a handful of slabbed and signed comics here once...BIG MISTAKE. The African American guy with the Elvis sideburns will rip you off royally!! Guy tried to tell me some books I was selling were worth $25 bucks...when they were a rare limited edition signed set (with COAs) by Ryan Kincaid going for over $300. Do yourself a favor...sell your comics on market place or Ebay, less likely to get ripped off. On a positive note, thank god they separated the tabletop gamers in a separate room at the new location! They were always in everyone's way at the old location. Remember the days when you went to your friend's house and played D&D, Magic, Pokemon, Etc and didn't interfere in people's shopping experience??? For some reason people think it's cool to go out in public and scream "look at me, look at me, I'm playing Yu Gi Oh in public" while blocking people from looking at comics, at a COMIC store!! One final comment on this store. There is a certain employee who has a VERY bad body oder problem. Anyone who has a sense of smell knows EXACTLY who it is . I've had to leave the store before just because this dude stunk so bad. The owners and other employees have to be aware of this person's smell...yet they don't seem to address the problem. read more

cool place, but the fan base/employees needa use a stick of deodorant once in a while. i kid you not, you could see the stench behind the checkout counter. i really do wish it would get addressed and fixed. couldn't stand being in there without covering my nose. would definitely visit more often if i could go in there without needing a gas mask. read more

Came to visit when in town and was very impressed. Huge store but so well organized it never feels overwhelming. Went in to look for some Magic the Gathering singles with my 11 year old daughter. The man at the Magic counter was amazing. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. The singles binders were amazing! They are sorted by set, color, alphabetically, and the alternate arts are sorted the same way. The case was also very well stocked. It was the most organized store I had ever seen for singles purchasing. When checking out two other staff members helped us and they were nice and welcoming also. For card pricing they go off TCGplayer pricing so you are getting a good deal and to top it all off they give a military discount. The only negative I can say is I wish I had more time to look at all they had. Next time I am in the area I will definitely come back. Could not recommend this store enough! read more

Best comic book store I have been to. A lot of selection. I buy an occasional board game or miniatures, but this is my home comic book store. The staff are super nice and helpful. It seems like they have an expert that can talk with you about anything in the store. In my many trips, I would say I have gotten good deals and some average ones, but I have never felt I got a bad deal. If you are looking for a great comic book store, give this one a shot. read more

Gotta love Borderlands Comics and Games! They have a wide selection of new/old comics, graphic novels, board games, Funko pops, figurines, and even some manga. They host tournaments for Magic the Gathering and Warhammer. They even hold artist signings here ever so often. So there is always a lot going on. Rob (store owner) is incredibly nice and is always willing to help you find what your are looking for. But so are the other employees that work there. I find it a great store to find back issues for a lot of the comics I read. Even if you're just curious go in and take a look. I bet you won't be disappointed. read more

It's a nice store with a ton of stuff to choose from but their prices are ridiculous, like they claim to have to spend a ton on import fees so any model kit or import figure they have is like $20-$50 more expensive than it should be, which sucks cause it's right there to buy, but it's also just so much cheaper to order the same model or toy online for a significantly cheaper price, it's even more irritating when they get in a new model through an official distributor but the price is still jacked up, also beware the used statues in the bags, nothing hurts more than a sticker saying it was around $5-$10 in japan and they want $30 for it with a broken leg in the bag, even with the new store, it's same old borderlands, if they did proper sales and stuff it wouldn't be as bad but it's kinda a waste of gas at this point. read more

FYI - I only grade/review from a comic book inventory standpoint. I travel weekly through the SouthEast and of course always find the local comic shop. BCG is the best I've found in the upstate, and one of the best in South Carolina, overall. "Best" defined as a combo of new comics, TPBs, a few high grade "wall books," large selection of back-issue boxes (Est. 5% Silver-Age, 10% Bronze-Age, remaining 85% Modern-Age (1980s and up), and about 20 long boxes of $1 comics. YEAH!! Staff is helpful, friendly and it's a great atmosphere. Really make you feel welcome. Do yourself a favor and stop in! read more

I was traveling through South Carolina this store was listed in the White Dwarf as a partner store. I could always use some more reading material so I stopped in and met Rob.. awesome guy. He is both knowledgeable and personable. Better yet, he has an uncanny sixth sense to know when to ask if you need help finding anything and let you wander, which is the key to having a good game store. "The Good" - A large selection of hobby, painting and modeling supplies. - Full range of Games Workshop items including Warhammer, Warhammer 40K and even Lord of the Rings. - Full range, and I am talking full, of Flames of War. - Comics... lot of comics. - Tabletop games from Fantasy Flight among others. - Gaming tables and set gaming nights where you can actually play. - Battlefoam, Romeo would be proud. - Clean restroom, always a plus at any establishment. "The Meh" - I know he is probably limited by the landlord or the shopping center, but I could not find the place initially as the sign is not the largest. Luckily there is a neon Batman emblem in the window... Irony?? nah, problem solved ;) "The Bad" - Nothing really bad to comment on. read more

Shady eBay seller borderlands comics and physical store borderlands comics in South Carolina alert. I committed to five of the plastic 6 inch bloodshot which does not weigh much (at most 2 pounds for 5 little 6 inch dolls) and 27 Valiant comic books. I went to go check out and it said $1100 in shipping. I called the physical store and they said that they could ship for $233 from South Carolina to Virginia. After I saw the change I called them and said it was ridiculous and that was not the actual shipping charge. So the manager said they could ship for 70 bucks but it does not cost $70 to ship five plastic 6 inch bloodshot dollars and 27 comic books from South Carolina to Virginia. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much. I feel like most comic book places are pretty much the same. Been to one, been to 'em all. Which is to say, not bad. Just... Generic. But this place pleasantly surprised me. During the weekend I went, it was paaaacked. Full of more people than I've seen at the comic place I go to in Decatur. And (another surprise) there were women shopping! Maybe that's sexist, but the total amount of women I've see in comic book stores can probably be counted on two hands. It just is what it is. The workers here were friendly, and the customers were friendly too. I've been to comic book stores where both people were very snooty to me. "You can't possibly know anything about any kind of comics or graphic novel." That kind of attitude. While I don't frequent a ton of comic places, I go every few months to look at what they have where I live! And I happen to be getting a pretty modest collection of graphic novels along the way. And Borderlands definitely helped on that front! They had two tables, spread with a plethora of graphic novels, series, collections, etc. when I went (about 2 weekends ago). And the best part? They were only priced at $5 each! I was sold. I browsed both tables and ended up getting $42 worth of graphic novels that included The Stand series and a couple miscellaneous ones, too. They were all in really great condition and most of The Stand ones had prices on the back at about $25 each. I was curious how much Amazon would sell the same ones for, and to compare, they were being sold for around $15-20 each. I now have 5/6 of the entire collection, for a grand total of $25! So yes, I'd say this place is worth the trip. It's a nice size, and seems to cater to whatever geeky thing you enjoy: graphic novels, tabletop gaming, cards, action figures, etc. Not to mention, the workers are helpful, even with a chaotic amount of people browsing. read more

The first time I went into Borderlands, I was really nervous. I had never been to a gaming store before, and I didn't know what to expect. Would people be friendly? Would I feel stupid browsing through things I didn't understand? Would I be able to buy anything that I could ever actually use? Fortunately, Rob (the owner) is so friendly and approachable that I felt comfortable asking questions and browsing the store. I have since made several return visits to Borderlands because the more I sit at home, the more I find that I really "need" that one thing that I saw the last time I was there... Borderlands has a full wall of comics, bookshelves loaded with graphic novels, well-organized shelves of board games, a seemingly endless supply of Games Workshop materials, and a really large space to play table-top games. Borderlands has an extensive selection of... everything. I am most impressed by the atmosphere and service at Borderlands. The store always has people browsing, shopping, playing, or hanging out. It's a very casual, laid-back environment. People seem like they are happy. Rob always remembers us when we stop in--and he even asks questions about our current campaigns. He is extremely personable--and he makes going to Borderlands an enjoyable experience. Borderlands is the kind of place where I am happy to spend my time and money. A massive selection of comics, books, and graphic novels adorn the shelves and tables of Borderlands. They buy just about everything of the different types of wares they sell as well! The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The place always seems busy, which is excellent since the store is such a treasure. Game tournaments seem to be happening every time I come in, with everything from Magic the Gathering to Warhammer 40k. They have tons of cards and minis for just about any geeky hobby or game you could possibly imagine. The prices are unbeatable too, I'm actually not sure how they can stay in business with such great deals. They had several tables of really nice graphic novels for 5$ a piece when I last visited, so I scooped up a couple and a nice new set of dice. Love these guys. read more

Went in to the store for a pokemon premium box that retails for $120. I watched the employees pull the boxes from the shipping carton and slap a $350 sticker on them. I asked the clerk why so high and he said "thats what they go for on Ebay". They just lost all my business. Been buying comics and games for years from them, but kids wanted to get into Pokemon. Thanks to Borderlands, I now not only have a problem with buying too many books, clothes, shoes, but also with buying too many comic books. And I am ok with that! Comics are one of those things that is a true American art form, and I love the fact that they are still pretty affordable for your average Joe. I'm so happy that I've been able to find my love of comics through this place. I'm a cosplayer. My interest in comics started when I needed to learn more about Supergirl in order to feel right cosplaying her. Now, I find a lot of inspiration for cosplay ideas through comics, and I also thoroughly enjoy the fact that if I don't have time to read a book then I can pick up a comic to read for twenty minutes. They also have posters, toys, memorabilia, action figures, trading cards, dice, table gaming products, and playing tables. If comics aren't your fancy then you can surely find something to suffice your geeking needs. My favorite thing about Borderlands is that you won't find friendlier staff than the people that own/run this place. The guy who owns the place is probably one of the most decent people on the planet, and he chooses to surround himself with equally awesome people. The staff also knows me well enough now that when I come in they have suggestions for new things I might be interested in. I really love feeling like I'm at home when I visit. read more

I had been going to Borderlands for ages. The store was always nice and had a decent selection. However the customer service was a bit lacking in the beginning. Enter Rob, the new owner, and everything changed. The already nice selection of comics and merchandise grew tremendously in just a couple of years. The staff there were friendly and out going. Rob himself would greet me with a smile when I came into the store. He was always asking how my kids were doing and the conversations about comics, games, and other exciting topics of the geek world were never lacking. He always has time for his customers. I never had a problem finding anything and the selection of goodies is so huge I often found things I didn't know existed. Rob would always order back issues for me when they were available for my favorite titles. I have literally spent hours just flipping through their $1 comic boxes! The store participates in Free Comic Book Day, Halloween Comicfest, and they also run various events all year round. This is the go to shop for any comic collector in the area! read more

The store is great with great selection. The owner could be more friendly, and that's why three stars. He sometimes acts like he is super busy and that you are bothering him by trying to spend money in his store, and when you ask questions his attitude is like "Ok hurry up... " and if you call the store he will straight up say "I have customers and I'm busy, can you call back another time?" Even though all I had was a quick question. When you see him dealing with his regulars his attitude is different and he is all like the friendliest guy ever and laughing and joking, but when I walk up to ask a question he just looks at you like, "Yeah, what do you want?" It's one of those stores where the regulars are like a clique and you don't feel part of it. Kind of like that movie High Fidelity. But it's a good store and you should check it out and hopefully he will actually be nice to you. read more

I've been all around this country. I've seen a lot of comic book stores! But the Great thing about Borderlands is the Friendly Staff which are also very knowledgable and can assist you in finding something great to read, a new tabletop game to play, or collectable figure to decorate your place. No matter where I was, I came back to visit their Comic Con. And the store invites other amazing nerds many of whom are friends to this day. Borderlands was the only store I ever visited with a staff so passionate about it's customers that you always leave with something exciting, I can't tell you how many other stores I could visit and leave without anyone noticing me, at Borderlands you are noticed! But if you really want another great reason to stop by, do so for the variety of items you can purchase, and if they don't have what you're looking for they will do their best to find it and order it for you.
