I am a long time customer where I love this nursery and every spring buy my Hanging baskets and fresh flowers here and numerous tree's and shrubs over the years. Their plants and tree's are always healthy, in great shape and well taken care of. when you consider how much effort goes into traveling to a nursery to buy your plants and bring them home and plant them, followed up with with ongoing watering and care, there is nothing more annoying than seeing the plant get sickly and die shortly thereafter due to poor quality stock from the business and/or inadequate care of the plants at the business. I have seen this movie too many times from plants I have purchased from the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot which is the primary reason I buy my plants at Bordines. Relative to nursery itself, Bordines has a very large selection of healthy plants/tree/shrubs where their staff in quite knowledgeable in all garden matters in general. The flower prices from what I can tell are in line with the big Box stores for the most part where they have nice sales throughout the season and especially on Memorial Day weekend which is when I buy most of my flowers in particular their hanging baskets which are a great price during this holiday weekend. trees and shrubs are a tad higher in general but the selection is quite large versus the big box stores and are definitely quite healthy and ready for transplant unlike the big box stores. Overall a great placer to shop for all your garden needs where you can rest assured yours plants will be healthy with a great start on them acclimating to there new home and surviving and thriving throughout the season. read more

Seems to be an issue with service at this location based on the previous reviews and I completely agree. I have lived about 3 miles from this location in Clarkston for 28 years and shop here annually especially in the spring. Not much going on since flowers are not in yet but there is plenty to look at. Beautiful furnishings and decorative items for home and garden, pricey for sure. Not once during our stroll through every display and section of the store did an employee say hello or greet us in any way. I saw probably 10 or more employees in the store and some were doing stocking and working, several employees around the checkout area shooting the breeze. Trying to support small business but they also need to earn my business, DO BETTER! read more

Service was abominable. Granted, it was end of February, so not the height of the season. But some places would operate to take even better care of the only 2 customers there, so they will come back in Spring. I had to actually CALL OUT for help, in two places. And they saw I was a disabled, old, fat person with a rollator walker, visibly struggling with the walking and standing. They have no mobility scooters. Only wheelchairs. I saw 3 wheelchairs of the SMALLEST size imaginable. Even once I got the attention of a plant person, I had to keep following HIM around or calling out again to get a question or two answered. Deplorable customer service. And the young lady at the register was clearly unfriendly, to the point of my companion and I looking at each other to confirm that we thought the same thing. My plant is lovely, but the shopping experience was really unpalatable. read more

For 35 years I have been a loyal customer of this and the Rochester store. In all those years we have never returned one item . In the last few weeks we have spent $600.00 plus on plants, shrubs and other items. On May 6, 2023 I purchased two Maidenhair Ferns that were in the annual plant area for $6.99 each. Total cost with tax: $14.82, not a huge amount. The plants did not do well and all I wanted was to exchange them. Here's what took place. 1. Took at least 10 mins. before any one came to the exchange area. 2. Told first guy I want a exchange because after using a water tool purchased from them, the plant died. He walked away and about 10 mins. later another guy calling himself a manager, told me houseplants can only be returned within 7 days. I thought this fern was an annual because that is the area I bought it from. One person, said I overwatered it and the next said I under-watered it and then in the end said we're not returning it anyway. Bordine's use to have service's and programs that were customer friendly. Over time those have all disappeared. I have worked with clients and businesses for many many years. What should've been done? To make you feel special, they could have said we typically only refund within seven days for house plants. Because this plant is not always considered a house plant, this one time we will do an exchange, but in the future realize that it's only a seven day return policy. I would have left happy, in addition to buying more items that were on my list. Total cost to Bordine's $14.82 retail. I don't know the acquisition cost per customer, but I'm sure it exceeds $14.82 retail. I'm off to Wojo's who has better pricing then Bordine's!!! read more

It's too bad they have lazy employees especially Ashley she's was very rude wouldn't let me buy stems off a tree or offer to look for the stems I wanted, but they can hold stems for 3 weeks without having a deposit or them being bought. which is crazy you think they would rather just sell them. Both managers were absolutely unapologetic to their rude employee who laughed at me when I asked if there was anymore or if I could just buy the stems off the tree she said no and laughed then said we have them on hold for customer I said how do you have them on hold and still have them on display and also don't even offer to look for them anywhere else in the store or see if another store has them. Bordines This is the kind of employee you have in your store? Ones that don't want to do their job? Thankfully they have great employees the two females at the register Jerry especially who was so kind and went out of her way to check other stores for me. Both Wendy, Ashley and the two other rude men one bald bigger guy and a tall skinny one really need to learn better customer service or least don't give one customer great customer service then choose to give another one a bad experience. I've spent a lot of money at this store and have bought stems off the display trees many times even if they were off the top of the trees and have never had an issue the employees last year took a ladder out and grabbed all the ones I needed same time last year. I would recommended only come here if you don't need help with anything otherwise don't bother asking if you need help or asking anyone for help you won't get it here unfortunately. read more

I went to return a $20 ribbon one day after the "Christmas returns" ended because I have been sick with covid the last ten days & wasn't able to leave my house. They weren't willing to help me out at all & complete the return for me. I'm very disappointed in their lack of customer service. I won't be buying anything from them again. read more

This was my third disappointing trip to Bordine's on Dixie. Each time, I knew exactly what I was looking for and each time multiple employees told me which direction to go to get where I needed to be, only to find they no longer had what I needed after traversing the HUGE store. The first time it was potato plants. The second time it was water plants and the third time it was green beans. This is a gardening store, right? This last time was especially frustrating because I carried 2 very large metal trellises (both labeled $26.99) all around the greenhouse looking for the green beans, only to reach the register and have them try to charge me $130 for the 2 trellises and when I showed the employee at the register that the tags said $26.99, instead of apologizing and selling them to me as marked she said in a snarky voice, "I'll have to let them know it's labeled wrong." So after ALL that, as usual, I left tired and frustrated and with NOTHING I needed and no friendly help from anyone in the store. They always seem annoyed when I ask for help finding what I'm looking for in the gigantic store. Not worth your time. Go to Wojo's or even Meijer or Menards or Home Depot are ALL better. And much less expensive. And much nicer. read more

I used to love this place. I would come at all times of year, and looked forward to every visit. It was like walking into another world, expansive, enticing, full of amazing and beautiful things. I was always inspired. Then one day this spring, someone got the idea that they should put up partial, cheaply-constructed walls and build barriers so that when you walk in, you can only see walls and patio furniture set up in little display rooms. There's no sign of plants, no way to look around and see what's available or where to go for what you want. You can't look around for a salesperson, either, because the new walls block your line of sight. You are channeled through pathways so confusing they've had to put up signs telling you what's ahead and what direction to go in. Far from getting me to look at the patio furniture, it is frustrating and slightly claustrophobic. They've even slanted the aisles in the tools and supplies area, further blocking line of sight. It's insane. My mother was an antiques dealer and I'm familiar with, and helped her with displays in, many different settings including design centers, collectives bigger than the Bordine's space, and small storefronts. I understand the different models of retail design and the concept behind them. This fits none of those models and appears designed to create a "get what you came for and get out" experience, instead of inspiring shoppers to explore, browse, linger. I've asked some of the salespeople why they made such a catastrophic retail blunder, and they tell me whoever did this wanted it to be "like IKEA," and that while many customers have complained, it will never change because whoever decided this wants it this way. Several times this summer I've found myself driving to nurseries farther away simply because walking into this location is so aggravating. At the very least they should take down the wall to the immediate left when you walk in so you can see the rest of the store and the plants, instead of feeling like you've accidentally entered the world's smallest patio furniture store. At the best, they should walk this whole ill-conceived and poorly-executed plan back, and give us back our wonderland. I miss it. read more

I'm going to start my review by saying that I might be a little biased since I was a summer/seasonal employee at this location for five years, but the Clarkston Bordine location is the best gardening store in the area! The amount of compliments I would receive from customers was astronomical. People would comment on a daily basis saying that the Clarkston location had the friendliest and most helpful employees. Almost every customer that walks through the doors is greeted with a smile and a "hello." The employees are quick to ask customers if they need help finding anything, too. You can find anything gardening related here: flowers (annuals and perennials), bulbs, seeds for your garden, soils/composts/mulches (in bags and bulk), gardening tools, garden decor items, pond plants/materials, etc. They have it all! They also feature special classes throughout the year to correlate with the seasons. Each location has a garden design artist who will draw up a plan for your garden for a fee. Bordine Nursery is open all year round -- flowers in the spring/summer; flowers, bulbs, pumpkins and cornstalks in the fall; holiday trees and fresh greens in the winter -- and they are a dog-friendly business. Your dog can roam around with you while you shop, both in the garden store and outdoors. The cashiers usually have dog treats for them, too! read more

The quality of customer service & customer care has fallen off the table. The workers have no gardening experience. They never have enough product in the place and never know when they product will be restocked. Sale items are never in stock. During the week employees walk away rather than try to help. You'd think you were the only person in the building. I might as well shop at the big box store. read more

Bordines needs to do a better job with demanding that their customers wear masks inside or not be allowed to enter. Also limit number of people to accommodate for social distancing. A lot of workers also not wearing masks! Check out lanes are managed well but not inside store it is ridiculous how many people are allowed in at once with no regulation. Disappointed in the management when most other stores such as grocery are doing such a good job. read more

Love this place! Even during the winter months they have an amazing selection of indoor plants and adorable decor! There is a lot on sale right now with them bringing n new stuff! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and guided me to everything we will need to create our own little wall garden for my daughter and my fun craft! Honestly I can get into trouble there.. I go in for 1 or 2 things and end up needing a truck! Definitely THE place to go for any gardening needs. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, they'll even help you arrange your garden if you'd like. The quality can't be beat. The prices are a little bit more than you'll find at somewhere like Meijer, but it's definitely worth the quality. I won't go anywhere else. read more

Great place to get your plants. We got our fruit trees from them last year and after a harsh winter I was happy that 7 out of 8 survived, and even happier that I was able to take the dead one back and get credit fort it. AVOID this place, especially if you are looking for trees and having them planted on your property! If I could give them less than one star, I would. They came out to plant nine trees that together with planting ran over $2k. They came late without an apology, and did a hack job. The one guy planting the trees didn't even know what amend the soil means! He digs a hole just big enough to stick the root ball in, shoves it in place and puts dirt over the top and they have the nerve to charge me $125 per tree for this 'service.' If you want your trees DEAD from their improper planting, hire them. They have no idea what they are doing! I had to pay another company to come in a replant these trees so they would survive and then I had to fight with Bordines management to get a refund on some of the trees I sent back as well as the planting. I paid in cash and they were refusing to give me my money back in cash saying they didn't have enough money to pay me and I would have to wait 7-10 days for them to write a check! They honestly didn't have the money to pay me back! It's completely unacceptable! I bought the trees over a week prior to delivery and most all were never watered during that time. The Hydrangea tree was leaning at a 90 degree angle due to not being watered! He laid it on the ground because it was leaning so much, but when I bought it, the thing was sticking straight up in the air! So many of my trees had dead branches in just weeks time due to not being watered! When I called the owner and left a message, he never got back to me. The man clearly doesn't care about his services or customers. AVOID this place! read more
