I don't know why the average rating is 3 stars because they are a 4.5 stars in my book. I have been here in the winter, Christmas time, spring, summer and fall and always found what I was looking for and stuff I didn't know I wanted when I walked in (Mastercard can tell you that ). Service is always there without having to look for 10 minutes like the big box stores. Quality is always worth the extra price and clearance after the season is cheap for the quality. The product selection is also much varied than the big box in what you come to get. Having 2 entrances , 1 off of Maple using the bank entrance and directly off Orchard Lake to the big parking lot. While it is not the biggest of the chain, it is not the smallest either. Will be back when I need any plants or decor. read more

I didn't know there was such a diverse variety of raspberries. I am not sure which ones we had at the house we grew up at all. They have little mini orchids that fit into my palm. Mini bonsai too. I never managed to get the juniper fir Bonsai I bought from another EG to survive. I stick to the ficas and deep green plants for Bonsai. They will be getting more outdoor plants in the next couple of weeks or so. They had the 6" and giant arborvitaes, but I wanted the 8" diameter pot. The 6" will take a while to catch up to the other taller 4 Arb plants at our house, those at least survived the winter. read more

My husband bought me an orchid plant for Valentine's. I thank him for the gesture but I had to asked him to return it since I'm not good in taking care of it. I don't want another variety of orchid go to waste in the trash. I just don't have the knack in taking care of orchids. So...a few days later, we went to English Garden for a refund. Instead, we end up with a store exchange of two small money tree and a bonsai tree. Plus extra credit back to our card since the plants we exchanged are 25% off. What a bargain! Looking around this month of February, mostly indoor plants are seen for sale. But outside the store, you can look around and purchase the pots, fertilizers and fountains. I think they are starting setting up the outside with summer plants and accessories. The sales associates are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the plants that suit your lifestyle. This business has a nice assortment of flowers, trees, shrubs, garden supplies and patio furniture albeit on the higher price side. It also has some fairly knowledgeable associates that can assist you with various garden questions/needs to include planting instructions, plant care and disease diagnostics. Also the plants/shrubs/flowers at this business are in good physical shape and well maintained giving a good start at them getting established and hopefully thriving once you plant them in your yard. They tricked my wife into buying a diseased tree and lied about it's condition as well as their warranty. My wife wanted to surprise me with a Rising Sun Redbud for my birthday in 2019 and unfortunately the closest one available happened to be at English Gardens. She wasn't familiar with tree health and a dishonest saleperson convinced her that this "Rising Sun Redbud" pictured was healthy and disease-free, that it was just in rough shape because the season was ending and it had been in a pot all year. After seeing it myself I called and was assured that there was a full 1 year warranty that'd take care of me if the tree did not recover from their neglect. Surprise surprise, spring rolls around and the entire tree save for one single branch on the bottom is dead and dry. When I called to inquire about a replacement under the warranty I was told that what they actually mean is that you need to dig the dead tree up and haul it back to their nursery so they can maybe give you store credit. Even that wouldn't be so bad if they were honest and willing to replace the tree with a healthy one BUT NO. They have jacked the price up on the trees to make more profit in the spring season and will not stand behind their diseased tree they sold us without me paying them the difference. Yes, shame on me for not checking to make sure you didn't have a predatory "warranty" before my wife got me a surprise gift. So to sum it up, I'm out driving time, full retail price, effort for planting and digging up this diseased tree, and a full fall/winter season of root development on top of having to amend the soil to make it suitable for planting again without a resurgence, AND they want me to pay them even more money to fix their mistakes. I am disappointed myself, but my wife was absolutely devastated that her amazing, thoughtful, and heartfelt surprise birthday gift to me was ruined by English Gardens and then further compounded by their lack of professionalism or pride in their products. Other than a bored manager telling me I'm SOL, English Gardens has done nothing to help and it doesn't appear that they intend to. I didn't think all the bad rumors about this place were true but after this I have to agree with them - This is absolutely not the type of place I'd trust our money or our garden to again. Inspect plants before buying, I took home plants full of mealybugs. I don't live in the area, but was looking for some quality houseplants and heard good things about this place. It was late summer, and while they had a nice variety of plants, they were in pretty sad condition. Their starter plants and succulent selection was small and unhealthy looking. I ended up buying 4 plants here, one was a Hoya and as soon as I got home noticed it had mealybugs, and then noticed more on the other plants. It was quite a drive so I didn't drive all the way back to return them, so I ended up washing all the plants with dish soap to hopefully kill the bugs. I also got a small polka dot plant that never thrived, and when I pulled it yesterday it was also covered in bugs. read more

I love going to the florist here. I know that I can get cheaper flowers elsewhere, but they have the best variety of fresh cut, loose flowers that you can use to build your own bouquet. I love giving flowers as gifts, and I always want them to have my own personal taste and touch. I take pleasure in picking out different flower patterns and color schemes. The florists who work there are really talented, too. I usually have an idea of what I want the finished product to look like, and they make it happen. When I'm stuck, though, I turn to them without hesitation because I always like what they design. This English Garden has such a great selection of flowers, plants, trees, potters, etc., and all of it is of good quality, fresh and alive, not half dead. It's a large location so everything is not crammed together and there are signs where items are located, along with signs if the items are on sale. The majority of the staff is friendly and knowledgable, asking if I need assistance, and checkout is also fast. My only complaint is there are several items I always seem to find that do not have price tags on them. Side note: Today's visit, it was almost time to close and the woman at the register was so friendly, she let my 3 year old daughter help scan our items, that's a big thing to a 3 year old. The woman didn't have to do that, they just happen to be that nice there. This is one of my favorite places to shop for my gardening needs. read more

I ordered a boutonniere and corsage about 3 days prior to my prom to be picked up at 4:00 promptly and was assured my order would be ready only to arrive to them not having even made them. I went to English Gardens to purchase sod. Their sod prices are much higher then other places but they had it available when I needed it. They had many green pieces out for display. However, when I bought the sod they loaded pieces that were already rolled on a palette. When I got home and unrolled it the grass had many burnt out areas and dead spots! Thus do not buy any sod from them unless you can see each piece to determine the quality of it! read more

Plants make me happier than almost anything else. I am quite a green-thumb when it comes to indoor plants ( I can't say the same for outdoor gardens), so I love buying small plants and making them grow big and lush. I stop by English Gardens to buy plants, but sometimes I like to just look at what's growing. This is nothing compared to Planterra, but it's super close to home. The staff is very helpful, but ONLY if you need it. My kind of help. There are aisles with supplies for gardening, bird feeding supplies, and of course lots and lots of pretty pots for your greenery. Great place to buy yard equipment off season when you can get a great deal. This location is hit or miss in getting assistance. Lori helped to design my yard. She was very quick and efficient, with great suggestions. I would definitely go to her again. However, after spending over $1.5 k for stuff, I would think there would be some assistance in loading all of that stuff in my car. Nope, here's the receipt, thank you very much. Come back again to buy some more stuff and put in the car yourself. What ever happened to customer service? I don't think they even had to help put it in the car, but how about just helping push one of the baskets to the car. No, just stop whining and make several trips. On a separate trip, went to the florist. Tulips looked great and I got a good deal. Roses looked pretty pitiful. Would not buy there. read more

She was more concerned about telling me the vase was an additional $5.00 and talking to another sales person than helping me. Service: 2/5 There are 2 types...one is VERY knowledgeable (expert), but 80% of them are dead weight. I asked 3 people simple q's like "how much are these?" or "where are the shepherds hooks?" They stare at u and say, "I don't know". NEWSFLASH: if u don't know, find someone that does...if u cant answer any q's, go home. And, I heard 2 other ladies ask people q's and they too said "I don't know". This seems like an acceptable, a-ok answer as they walk away. Why not wear tags that say "don't ask me anything". Went here to get our Christmas tree. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a couple different types of fresh trees as well as fake. We opted for the real, prices ranged from 70-80 bucks. There was 20% off. Also the lady up front rang us up with a coupon so the total only came to 35 dollars. Totally worth it. They wrap the tree and attach it to your car. I will definitely be back next year as well as in the spring to check out their plants. Tree is doing great, no dead needles and smells fantastic after several days. read more

You'll never see me do it five stars to a location-based nursery. My reasoning is this, they don't have the education needed on their floor to properly explain what's on they are selling. You cannot blame them for this, but it must be held accountable and explained is a problem within this industry, as we have seen Home Depot and Lowe's pick up live plant delivery recently, we will see English gardens quality decline to match what Home Depot and Lowe's will presented to the public. Those big box stores have no choice but to oversell the quality of the stock they are forced to except as it comes in the door. Then the consumer is the next who is forced to except what is offered at that store. Should the consumer take the time to shop around and find that there are real benefits to paying 10 to 25% more for live plants. The biggest of all of that being they live longer. Second most important thing, they do much better the second year and are more likely to flower. Please spend the extra couple bucks and keep a place like English gardens able to keep quality stock on their shelves. read more

So Wednesday my boyfriend suprised me with a dozen pink roses from here, by the next day 3 roses of 12 were dropped and dead, so he called and spoke to the male associate who made the bouquet and told him what was going on an he proceeded to tell him that I need to take better care of my flowers. Not only is that unprofessional and rude, but I've had many roses, who ever made the boquet took already bloomed roses and just took off the already bloomed petals to make then look like they haven't bloomed, you can clearly tell that's what he did because each closed dead rose has only about 6-8 petals. Today's Saturday, 3 days later from receiving them 7 of 12 are dead. Rude, lying employees who have no desire to fix there mistakes or make there customers happy. Will never go here again. read more

The WORST customer experience EVER. Jim Welch, the manager at the English Gardens on Orchard Lake road, gets ZERO STARS for threatening to NOT give me my money back when I attempted to return a plant -- with my receipt -- after I refused to provide my personal information, including my full name and phone number. Funny. English Gardens' return policy states that you "must" provide your personal information, including your "full name and phone number", in order to return merchandise -- even IF you have a receipt. I know of no law that requires consumers to be held hostage by any retailer if we choose not to provide our personal information. A polite refusal on my part resulted in threats of not returning my money and a nasty attitude by Jim Welch. Horrible treatment and I'm surmising, illegal. I'll NEVER shop there again... and I reserve the right -- AS AN AMERICAN TAXPAYER TO WITHHOLD PERSONAL DATA TO RETURN ANY MERCHANDISE when I HAVE my receipt. English Gardens offers landscape design. You can bring in pictures and measurements of your space and pay $50 for an 'over-the-counter' sketch. For that, their landscape designer will talk with you about what you want for your space, and draw out a plan with you while walking around the nursery and looking at plants with you. For $200, you will receive a graphed out, detailed plan. In both cases, you will receive a gift card of an equal amount, so, essentially, it's free. I met with Stacy T. for an 'over-the-counter' sketch and told her what I was looking for. The plan is gorgeous. So, for landscape design services, I would give them five stars. I went on Saturday, June 1st, to buy the plants, and boy was it BUSY! Still, I found friendly and helpful staff (including Stacy again!) to help with my choices and questions. Also, keep in mind that as a garden club member, you get 10% off regularly priced items, a two year warranty on trees and shrubs, and a 1 year warranty on perennials. The cost to join is $20, but if you are a blue cross/blue shield member (I am!), it's free. So, consider that when you are pricing out items. I found their prices to be higher than some of other nurseries, so I would come here looking for the cheapest stuff in town. Good Morning, For the record, I consider English Garden to be a topnotch nursery. Nevertheless, it is my opinion that English gardens prices are much higher then other nursery's and stores in the West Bloomfield area. That is okay due to the quality, presentation and English gardens return policy. However, I think with the high prices English garden should have more knowledgeable employees working in their stores. On more than 10 occasions when I ask questions regarding flowers, plants etc the person had no knowledge of flowers or gardening. This morning i called and requested information regarding Sun Patients, the person I talked to this morning at approx. 9:00 AM. indicated that English Gardens does carry them. Then, when I called back to determine if English Gardens would be carrying regular impatiens this season, Scott had to refer to Jodi for answers. Unfortunately, Jodi said that they would not be carrying Sun patients only New Guinea Inpatients. Initially, Scott did not want to reveal Jodi's name when asked and when he finally did and I ask to speak to her, I was told she was in a meeting. read more
