Tried them at the Wawa Welcome Festival. Long line thanks to the "everything under $10" sign. Service was quick, but portions were small. We got the rice with meat and chicken--it was dry and lacked seasoning. Tres leches was super wet but not in a good way. The empanadas though? Total win. Crispy outside, juicy and flavorful inside. My husband stopped by so excited to try this food and we had an hour until closing. We got in were greeted with a warm welcome by a women, who said I have to ask the owner if you can eat in, to my surprise , he said"No, No. No only take out".I would recommend to owners if you plan on eating at your restaurant before doors closed, maybe change your sign you close at 6 and takeout at 7. It seems upsurd, disrespectful, unprofessional and poor service. We definitely will never walk in this place, and hopefully you will have the same service at another establishment so you. I cannot say anything about the service or ambience here since I ordered delivery from here. I ordered a "boricua meal" with pernil, white rice, beans, and macaroni salad. The pork and beans were beautifully seasoned, fresh and delicious. The macaroni could've used a bit more salt, but was still very good. I don't know where these good reviews are coming from but the food I had which was the Pernil platter was no good. Pernil was dry, seems like they do it in a instapot and not an oven, rice had no flavor and neither did the macaroni salad. Small portions, the pastellio was good but that's about it. We ordered the pernil catering tray for Christmas, and it was worth it! I've had Boricua's food at a recent birthday and their food is very good. The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was juicy. As someone who identifies as Puerto Rican/Boricua, I approve! I ordered a platter that came with arroz con gandules, pernil and potato salad. I also ordered papas rellenas, sweet plantains and empanadas. The arroz con gandules was a solid base for pairing with bites of the pernil and pieces of the papas rellenas. The sweet plantains were so bomb I was popping them in my mouth on their own. Same for the empanadas- very delicious! I had 1 chicken and 1 beef. I finished off with the tres leches which was yummy as well. All of that food was definitely enough for 2 meals so I had plenty of leftovers! My one critique is that the arroz con gandules was a bit too bland to eat on its own without pairing bites with the other sides. However, I arrived to order at the end of the day so I received the last of the last. I don't think it's fair to judge their arroz con gandules based on that. I begged them to give me whatever they had so I got what I got and am not mad at it! I plan on returning earlier in the day to try it again and to dine in/try more menu items. The atmosphere inside is also really nice. Its very clean and calming but also vibrant with elements of PR culture incorporated into the decor. read more

i wanted to love this.. pros: the macaroni salad is SLAMMING, rice and beans were just that. rice & beans. passion fruit juice was good. cons: the pernil was as if a whole bucket of salt was poured on it. so salty i couldn't eat it. i wanted to! but i couldn't. the passion fruit juice was good, BUT it tasted like it came from a pepsi fountain machine. not sure why they charge so much for it. people seem to complain about the price... to me if the foods good you can't put a price on it. however, if it's bad, just give me my money back! i definitely don't recommend the boricua platter for horrible taste number one and then number two the price. read more

The portion is nowhere near what it's worth. They are such small portions that if you have a big appetite or come here very hungry, you would probably need 2 portions of rice. Seriously. also the music is was too loud. I could barely hear across my table and everybody was talking very loud because the music was loud which made everything overwhelming. Hector, you should take these reviews into consideration. Everybody complains about the price or the size portion. If you made bigger portions, and lower the music a bit, i think i would come again. I suggest more rice, without the price change because the price is already extremely high. read more

I agree with the review saying the amount of food is small for the price. The arroz con gandules ($8) tasted ok. The pernil ($9) tasted good, it was a shame it didn't have cuerito. The chicken pasteles (a yunta of 2 for $8) had an appearance that wasn't very appetizing, the taste was ok. I'd look into the recipe to make the pasteles a lighter color. Overall, I'd be leery about going there again but I'd be willing to give them a chance again if things change. read more

First I drove an hour to try this restaurant and was excited. Living int the Burbs we do not have PR restaurants and drive distance to eat home food. We arrived at 6:30 pm and was greeted by the rude women at the front that told us we could only order take out because they close at 8 pm and had 3 other tables (2 of which already had their food). I was confused as it was 6:30 pm. I told her we drove an hour and that we wanted to sit down she gave an attitude and told us that we would have to leave by 7:30 pm. If I didn't have my 1 yr old granddaughter who hadn't eaten we would have left. After being sat we could hear her huffing and puffing. We ordered quickly ( which they had run out of most of their small menu). The large table behind us didn't even order yet. We hurried to eat. And even quickly ordered additional food to go. The food was good portions very small. There were to other ladies working there that we nice and helpful. Needless to say ate stressfully & quickly and was done by 7:04 pm. With 26 minutes to spare before she would kick us out ‍ ( me,my sister and 1yr old granddaughter), the large table was still there when we left. Regardless of the nasty rude lady in the front door I still left a 20% tip ( my sister thought I should not have left such a large tip). Total bill$104.00. I doubt I will be back. The front door lady is better suited to work at dicks last resort. read more
