Being from Northern Virginia, we were very out of place. Visiting friends that recently moved here and I love these types of bars (not holes in the wall, but classic, old fashioned bars). From walking into the front door, hearing the witty banter between the lady at the front desk and everybody laughing, enjoying their time even before walking in really made me feel comfortable. Places like this where the staff knows their guest on a personal level is what makes a business really grow. The bar staff, ever the cocktail waitress, really made an effort to see how we were doing and if we were enjoying our time. The other guests are upfront, but polite. They could tell we weren't from the area (we're from outside of DC, it's not hard to pick us out of this crowd) and invited me to the dance floor. Thought my wife and I would check this place out. We arrived about 5:30 pm and were the first there on a Friday night. We ordered some burgers and a side. I recommend eating before you go. Happy hour was until 8 pm. Pretty good draft beer and well drink prices. Upon paying a $10 cover per person, we found out all of the tables in and around the dance floor and bar were reserved for "regular" customers. This puzzled us until about 7:30 when the "regulars" started coming in. By 8:15 it was apparent that the medium age was 75 yrs old. We felt way out of place as did anyone who came in under the age of 60. We saw a few 20/30 somethings come in, have a drink and leave. It appears Saturdays are more of the younger crowd gathering, while Friday is the older crowd. I can't tell you what karaoke night is like. The band tonight was really good. The volume was low enough so you can hear the person next to you. So words of advice for anyone looking to meet people to dance with, don't go on a Friday unless you like dancing with your grandparents. ;) read more

Excellent staff and Lola (owner) is always there if you need ANYTHING! If you're hungry, try their Fiesta Potato Skins or even just the French Fries (air fried with special seasoning). First of all, I always think it's important to note that this is a smoking establishment (Yuck with a capitol Y!). However, that seems to be the norm in Temple, TX. The only reason I stayed is because they seem to have a pretty good ventilation (although I don't think I'll go back because the next morning I had a scratchy throat from the smoke pollution). I understand not being charged a cover if you're not 21 but literally lost the business of 6 people because they do charge. The dance hall had live music in addition to a DJ and the place was very clean. You could shoot pool or sit down and enjoy a drink and something to eat. No smoking inside which is nice for people like me who are sensitive to it. People really seemed to have a great time and the band they featured was so easy to dance to you! Definitely not a place for anyone under the age of 40! My neighbor and I are new to the area and decided to have a ladies night and check out this place. The parking lot was supper packed so we figured we'd go in and do a little country dancing. The cover was $8...I'm wishing I would have spent that $8 on my weekly cheat meal at Taco Bell and dealing with the consequences of Taco Bell at 2am would have been better than this place. Everyone in this place stared at us as if we were wearing their favorite outfit just stolen from their closet. 95% of the people in this place were over the age of 55 and there was no new country playing...just the stuff played back when country started...1800! We sat down at some bar stools that were out of the way and clearly not being used. We were immediately approached by Susan with a bad attitude telling us how those seats were taken and once the owners of those seats returned from their dance we'd need to get up, I politely looked at her and said ok. A few minutes later I could see people were coming back so we got up, as we were already up and looking at them Susan comes over again and tells us they are back. We obviously saw that as we were already standing up...Susan is real smart! A few more minutes go by and one of the ladies in the group proceeds to tell us that we can have her seat once they all leave. Great, so happy I needed her permission to have a seat once they were gone. Anywho, we left at the same time they did and spent a total of 15mins in hell where old, miserable people go to die. We've been here a few times and have always had a descent time. We were having a few beers celebrating my husband's promotion last night at a hole in the wall and decided to go to Bo's to dance and get some appetizers because the little place we started at had no food. When we got to Bo's it was around midnight and my two girlfriends were laughing and making fun of my excitement to get some food. I guess they were laughing too loud because the door girl told us "I can see that you have been drinking and I'm refusing to let you in". We had a few beers prior to that but we had a designated driver and nobody was tripping or puking or anything. It just came off very rude all over some laughing as we were walking in the door. I guess laughing and having fun with your friends is not ok in this bar. I think it's unfortunate that people seem to forget they are in the service industry and don't greet guests with a smile and welcome them and treat them politely. 12/13/14 The band Pat Waters and Chainlink were playing and they are AWESOME!!! They play good ole 2-steppin music by the real country artists; Ray Price, George Jones, Hank Thompson, etc. We really had a great time. The smoke didn't seem to be an issue as it usually is at other bars that permit smoking. The dance floor is large enough, our waitress was terrific, very friendly. Hopefully, Pat Waters and his band will be back out there a lot and other bands that play good ole 2-steppin country music. read more

I did not know that in order to get a good table a reservation is required but got a good location anyway right in front of the dance floor so I could watch folks dancing and having a good time. Upon leaving Schoepf's BBQ's free live music of Roger Creager, my friend and I proceeded to Bo's Barn for a little bit. Once entering the establishment we learned of a $2 cover for guys only and not the ladies. Of course I inquired about why there was even a cover because Bo's has never charged a cover on Thursday evenings. I asked when they decided to implement a cover charge on Thursdays and the response was that they had just started charging the cover this very week. I then asked them if it was because folks go straight there after the live music at Schoepf's. The response that I got was astonishing. Bo's is charging a cover on Thursdays due to the fact that it gets busy and that glasses 'sometimes' get broken and that it's to cover the cost of broken glasses. If the glasses issue were true, then the establishment should take action and maybe implement PLASTIC THROW-AWAY CUPS instead of using ones that break during busy times? However, when I went to the bar and ordered my beverage, it was placed in a PLASTIC CUP! I am not concerned about the amount of the cover, but just that there is even a cover to begin with on a Thursday. There is only Karaoke (which is mediocre because the one heading it up doesn't really get the crowd pumped up). As a Temple resident I am very disappointed in the night life establishments due to the fact that they all charge covers when there is entertainment, whether it be $2 or $5. Charging covers really just puts a damper on the time spent at the establishment. Bars should cover the cost of whatever entertainment they have going on because if folks found out there wasn't a cover, it would bring in more people and hence purchase more beverages in turn making the establishment more money. Needless to say, if this is going to now be the new norm at Bo's on Thursdays, I intend to take my business elsewhere just as I've done with O'Briens and The Green Door. read more

I used to love to dance on Thursdays here at this dancehall. My friend and I are pretty good dancers and sometimes dancing is not a super modest sport, and slip ups happen. While we were dancing a staff member was staring at us the entire time. This made both of us mildly uncomfortable, but we ignored it. As my friend and I came off the dance floor a staff member came up to me and said "you should watch your dips I can see up your shorts and you really should keep your legs together". I understand coming from a place of concern; however, the way he did this was wildly creepy and inappropriate. As a bouncer of a bar you should be taught not to make customers feel uncomfortable. Finally, if this man did have a legit concern that would be a place for a woman to handle. He could have grabbed a female staff member. I will never step foot into Bo's again because this made me so incredibly uncomfortable read more
