I brought my pets to Dr Katz in 2017 and it's taken me years to construct a calm review, based on facts. Read the negative reviews about Natural Pet in Bourbonnais - in my experience, they're accurate. This practice used to be owned by Dr Karen Becker who had a thriving holistic practice in Bourbonnais. Dr Becker sold it to Dr Katz... This was my experience: *Dr Katz set a timer so we were talking over one another trying to beat the clock like a bad game show. *I was charged 50 for 15 minutes was way too expensive - even for a holistic vet. *She misdiagnosed ringworm twice, resulting on it spreading to myself and my children. *The examination rooms and scales were not clean, or not cleaned between animals. She examined my kittens on the floor, (there weren't tables in the room), where there was other pet hair. Pet hair on the small scale too. *She refused to answer my calls and provide guidance after ringworm had spread to my other kitten - even though I had paid her for two other vet visits where she failed to diagnose it. *When my kitten was vomiting later that night after being seen by Dr Katz, she would only respond via text - would not answer the phone even though I was willing to pay for after hours guidance. *I saw Dr Katz yell at her employees. *Her employee spoke poorly about Dr Katz behind her back. *The operating room looked like a dark, janitor's closet. *The place only has hours three days a week...what do you do if your pet needs to be seen the other half of the week? *Refused to honor or acknowledge a $20 off new patient coupon after I realized it hadn't been applied at my first visit. (I called later about it.) Bottom line, in my opinion, there are professional, compassionate, and reasonably priced, holistic veterinarians in the area - skip this one. (It took me a long time to construct this review as I didn't want it to be based on emotions - and there were many negative emotions I needed to sort out. Her nutritional and medical advice is superb. She did not suggest any unnecessary tests, she asks the right questions, she makes some good nutritional recommendations. I appreciated the handout she gave me for approved raw and grain-free food. I have referenced this handout several times when seeking out different options for food. I find her very compassionate about animals and holistic treatments. She is compassionate about what is put in pet food, I got quite an education about what is in some commercial products. I've found their front desk reception staff to be pleasant and helpful every visit, and also when I call. I have called to make appointments and to order a supplement, which they shipped to me (I appreciated not having to drive an hour there and back to get it). Yes, when you book a first time appointment it takes a couple months to get in with Dr. Grant. She is very popular. When I needed a more urgent visit I was able to book an emergency visit for approximately $100. As long as the staff disclosed this amount and why, I was fine with it. I saw they have boarding, the cats that were in the cat boarding looked pretty happy and it appeared to be clean and tidy in the boarding room.

The Vet said to bring him back for yet another surgery to fix it! This is a horrific surgery and recovery protocol. Finley had his first hematoma as a kitten, and when this happened again, now with the other ear, we considered putting him down to spare him the pain and misery. I cried thinking of how he suffered during the first recovery protocol. Dr..Siwek sent me home with homeopathic hemorrhoid cream. I was to spread that on his ear, 3 times a day. We saw results after the first day. Within 2-3 days the fluid had been re absorbed by his body, no swelling, no "pillow" in his ear, and we never had another problem with this ever again. I have many different thoughts re this business that I've used for my two dogs for at around the…read morelast 8 yrs. 1. Dr. Kumar and Dr. Sunny are pros and good at what they do. They can address emergencies well. Dr. Sunny is extra compassionate as he has taken it upon himself to help my elderly dog with his anal gland expresses, since my dog has a collapsed trachea, and some techs struggle to get the right area. He said to make my appt for my elderly dog when he's there, and he'll try to be one to do it or assist the tech. Dr. Kumar discovered Sammy's collapsed trachea so he's smart. Sometimes, Dr. Kumar pushes for too many interventions, and you end up paying more than you wanted to pay, but his heart is in the right place. I've never had Dr. Fauley as a vet but he does not get high reviews by my dog friends who have visited Care. 2. The techs vary--sometimes amazing, sometimes inept. I think they may employ some temps. 3. The office staff varies--sometimes compassionate and helpful; sometimes mean and sarcastic. I mean sarcastic and sassy to the point a friend of mine stopped going here because of one particular person. 4. Their meds are available online for less, which they will not tell you, so that's kind of odd. As in, Sammy is on Cerenia for his collapsed trachea, but I had to discover that I could buy the meds from THEM online for less than in person. Maybe that will change. Same with heart worm meds--less expensive on their online site. They will not give you a prescription to buy meds online somewhere else like Chewy. 5. Their hours are AMAZING. As in, open late weekdays, open Sat & Sun. I think they're trying to position themselves as both your regular and your emergency vet. 6. Prices are not outlandish, but do tend to be higher than some places. Probably comes with the longer hours, and 7 days a week open. Much less than what you'd pay going to an emergency place, so there's that. Because they do get emergency visits, you may have to wait, so I think they should find a way to warn you, if you have a nonemergency appt, and maybe redirect you to another time/day. 7. My wishes for this place are that they get a bit more with the times in terms of a natural approach to caring for animals. As in a species appropriate raw food diet for dogs is not that strange but neither vet embraces it. Natural vitamins and supplements have been a "thing" for a while, but they are not all that inclusive of those thoughts nor are they resourceful. I handed a list of the natural supplements I give my dogs to Dr. Sunny and he left it on the examination table after our visit. He questioned my use of a raw food dog (Raw Bistro--$80 per 12 patties of Bison--top notch organic raw food). But, at the same time, he mentioned Metamucil for my dog's anal glands. I went for organic flaxseed, instead, which has helped Sammy, so he had a great thought, but why not organic pumpkin and organic flaxseed? Made a difference. Dr. Kumar does recommend some vitamin supplements but seems to have no idea where to get them (as in, you can direct people to Dr. Mercola's dog vitamins or Standard Processing dog vitamins). Using human vitamins is a bit strange. Dr. Sunny mentions Manuka honey as a wound med, but he needs to say where to go (at least mention Whole Foods) I use my dog's Chiropractor, Dr. Erin O'Connor, (Vitality Chiropractic Center) as my natural supplement source of info. and she stocks vitamins. And, it's odd neither vet embraces chiropractic or laser treatment for tissue issues, accident recovery, and old age movement issues. My older dog, despite being 14 and having a collapsed trachea, moves around very well, because he has had chiropractic care every 6 weeks, and Sammy has had it his entire life. It's fairly well known that chiropractic care is very good for animals (and humans) In terms of tooth care, TEEF is all natural and effective, but neither vet embraces that, but instead has some kind of chew they recommend. I guess the pairing of Dr. O'Connor and this practice gives you the best of both worlds. All in all, a good place to bring your pets, especially if you have an emergency.
