While my experience in a class may be different from the average visit to the Shambhala Center, I did get to interact with the established members and followed the center's philosophy throughout the entire week (some of the practices that took place I won't describe because they are meant to be sacred). However, I can say that everyone that participated created a comfortable and intimate atmosphere that moved us all. Overall, the exercises focused on Dharma art, a Buddhist practice of creating and existing through your own nature--included a lot of meditation to free the mind. While the practices were derived from Buddhist teachings, I wouldn't say this was a religious retreat. Basically, the week was about being vulnerable and opening up to others in order to empower yourself. Something we all need once in a while.

My body, mind, and soul had been in dire need of a rest and reset after having a sick infant and partner since Thanksgiving. I was able to make an appointment here for my Groupon easily on Monday. My therapist greeted me and I wasn't expecting anything fantastic because I judged a book by its cover. She was a small, soft-spoken women who asked what type of massage I'd like and what brought me in, I told her I preferred firm and deep massages and that the majority of my pain in resting in my neck, shoulders, and back. She was amazing. I always appreciate a therapist that listens, but also asks questions. I love a good glute massage as well and it was glorious. After the massage, I did the soak. They had me take a shower before floating to help get all of the oil off of my body. I loved the smell of the products in the shower. After my float, I showered again. I'd advise planning a little longer than you expect so you can shower afterwards and enjoy yourself, taking in the relaxation. I almost wanted them to offer me a pillow and blanket for a nap before going out into the world. I'll definitely be back.

I feel asleep several times. She was gentle but at the same time deep enough to help me with my muscle soreness. The floating experience was very interesting. During your session they assess your skin and let you know what they are doing and using. It's so calming that I often find myself falling asleep by the end of it. They have private tubs you can reserve for an hour if that's more the vibe you are feeling, but you can also use the hot tub before or after your appointment to soak which is so relaxing. I do appreciate the touches of tea kettles and tea in the lounge area that are complimentary. They also have snacks and other things if you are there longer. Remedy is such a sweet serene spot right in the university area that you'd kinda forget where you are because it's so peaceful while experiencing it, and that's why I can't recommend Emily and Remedy enough.

I asked a friend to join me at Kadampa Meditiation Center, for there series Introduction to Buddhism. Parking was ample, you walk in and the people there were very welcoming. They gave me some info and a tour. I felt a sense of peace and calm when I walked into the room. I had never been to a Buddhist temple before but left feeling so much better. They have quick 30 min sessions during the week. I also noticed they allowed kids for meditation during certain times. This temple is very new and clean.
