I really love Hot Yoga Downtown. I've been practicing at this studio since last October and it truly feels like home. I've yet to take a class here that I didn't 100% love. The vibe here is super chill and everyone I've met, including other students/yogis, have just been super wonderful. Teachers here make you feel welcome and appreciated. They learn your name and I really feel cared for whenever I come to class. The bathrooms and showers are excellent and clean and I never really have a hard time finding parking, there is a lot of parking on the street and by the park. I look forward to every class I take here, whether it's Hot Vinyasa or Pilates (haven't tried the Yin classes yet). Some teachers will really push you to your limits and I feel like my practice has gotten so much stronger since starting here. I've been to several other studios around Albuquerque, and all are very unique and great in their own ways, but HYDT is the kind of vibe where I don't feel self conscious or embarrassed or uncomfortable. No phones allowed in the studio which I love! People talk to each other and connect with one another and I really feel like that is how it should be. This place has some great instructors and really good workouts. The instructors range from hippie-dippie love and light types (my preference) to matter-of-fact "feel it burn" types. Some move quickly through the poses without much explanation, others focus more on articulating intent of a pose. You can probably find an instructor that fits anyone's taste. They offer a number of classes daily too, to suit just about any schedule, and they run from 1 to 1.5 hours, morning til night. That's awesome. The space is also marvelous - very well heated, large and spacious; you never seem to be packed in too tight, like some studios I've been to. It's super clean and has a great vibe. They offer towels and water, at a cost, and mats and toiletries for free. Seriously, from the organic shampoos and lady-products to the wet-gear bags and hair ties, Hot Yoga Downtown really does have their patrons' needs in mind and does a very good job of making you wanna come back. For my taste though, there's not enough variety in class type... at least not by outward appearances. It seems that 95% of classes offered are Vinyasa power yoga... which I love, mind you. But one also needs some deep-state meditation and body-centering to ease any injury one might sustain from the week's grueling power yoga workout schedule! I took more than a week off because I was too sore for power yoga and didn't see a feasible alternative in their class schedule. I loved the one-month trial for $29; man, what a smokin' deal! But for the reason above, I wouldn't consider paying the regular $130/month membership. Cripes, that's half my car payment! I may float $14 on occasion when I'm feeling like a good yoga workout, but I think even that is pretty pricey for a single session. I'll likely sacrifice the Hot Yoga Downtown luxuries (like fancy showers I don't even use) for cheaper membership elsewhere. read more

Doesn't matter where I am in the world, but a yoga studio is where you'll find me. I have been an avid yogini since 2007 and yoga is part of my life. I cannot live without yoga. I take what I learn on the mat into the world. I found this awesome studio a few days ago. I am in ABQ for a few weeks so I opted for the $29 monthly special for new students (take as many classes as you like in the month). Sweet deal! Yoga mats are provided for free, but you will have to pay for towels. You can fill up your water bottle by the sink in ladies locker room or choose to pay 25 cents for mountain spring water. The studio itself is large and can fit up to 60 people, but I was told it never gets that packed. The room is heated to about 105-110 degrees, but this can vary depending on the temperature/humidity outside and by instructor. So far, I have taken two classes and both taught well but in very different styles. My first class was with Bob was a 1 hr class on a Sunday night. Bob had just finished yoga teacher training and this was his debut! He was excellent. He gave good instruction, was easy to follow and played good music (oldies mixed in). It was a nice way to end the week with a little stretch and a little twist. I probably could've taken a more challenging class... Be careful what you wish for. Because tonight, I took a 1.5 hr class on Monday night with Jenni. This class thoroughly kicked my butt. But I will have to say that Jenni was a phenomenal instructor, she pushed our boundaries and got us into difficult poses and stretched out hard to reach muscles and I really appreciated the challenging class. Half way through the class, I was feeling fairly nauseous, as this usually happens to me in a very hot room and I am sweating profusely. I downed a bag of electrolytes and felt better and continued through the rest of class. My hamstrings are currently extremely tight and I believe I have a left hamstring strain after trying to get into a bird of paradise a few weeks ago, so many of the fold over poses were extremely hard for me, but nevertheless, I appreciated it. Jenni also played some good music which went well with the flow. The locker room has 2 bathrooms and 3 shower stalls with shampoo/conditioner/body wash (vegan and organic) all provided. Hair dryer and hair ties are available and tampons also available. There are lockers if you wish to stow away your items. The only thing I wished for was some lotion as it is very dry in New Mexico and would be nice to moisturize after a hot shower. Outside in the lobby area, there are yoga books to read and yoga merch available for purchase. The usual suspects of clothes, towels and some snacks. I will definitely be back for a few more classes before I leave ABQ. Excellent, solid studio and a great deal for new students! read more

I don't live in Albuquerque but I travel here occasionally and stay at Hotel Parq Central, which is how I first encountered Hot Yoga Downtown (it's located right across the street from the hotel, so uber convenient for an early morning workout & sweat before hitting the day!) Every class I've taken here has been great. Creative sequencing, playlists that suit the mood/style of the class, and, of course the heat They have on site parking, showers, lockers, and a beautifully-sized yoga room with ample mirrors and windows, as well as a soft floor (which is a huge deal to a skinny yogi like me whose bones are always getting bruised on wooden studio floors!) read more

I grab one of their complementary yoga mats because "shocker" I lost mine. I lay down my rainbow striped beach towel on top so I do not slip but see other people's nice yoga towels and already I learned my first lesson of hot yoga- leave your insecurities at the door. See, when you are in a room of half-naked old/young men/women fit/body positive people sweating like a waterfall trying to make their bodies do unnatural things, there is no room for judgement. Everybody is too focused on their selves that nobody even cares if you can't balance on the tree pose or your heels don't touch the ground on downward dog or that you fall on your face (not that I like did any of those things, psh). And I think that that was my favorite part of the whole experience, like you walk in expecting a work out and walk out with the confidence to rule the world- wakanda forever. The yoga in all was a very intense workout, but the instructor made sure that all her students knew that if you could not do any of the poses you can adjust to what is comfortable for you or you could just take a break and drink some water. When doing these intense poses you really have to be in tune with your body. You have to understand your body's limits, what's that saying "if you know your limits you can go beyond them". I practiced here for about 2 years and recently moved out of state. This community will always be one of my fondest memories of NM. Instructors here are amazing. Each brings something different, and helped me calm my mind and strengthen my body and challenge me. From beginners to experienced yogis you will find this studio very welcoming. As an immigrant from the phil. (Southeast pacific islands) I've done some yoga there growing up, but haven't done the so called "hot yoga". Cause it's always hot there. Lol So, when a friend/ coworker said she just loves "loves" hot yoga ( I kid her about it, but I was truthfully intrigued) So I did my due diligence and did some research. I've compiled a short list of which "hot yoga" studios I wanted to try but didn't quite got to it until a "changing moment" drew me back to my spirituality and yoga. So I've revisited that short list. I attended one hot yoga studio prior to coming here. And "here" became my last stop. I knew I didn't need to try or look anywhere else. The first time I stepped in this hot yoga studio, aside from the friendliness- welcoming presence of the people that works there- the place is spaciousness / clean/ inviting . And the "yoga floor" really got to me. It's not hard wood! Lol. The floor is different. It's fresh. It's innovative. ( you have to see it/ experience it for yourself). It's great. After doing the $29 for 30day offer ( and I went to almost any session and attended possibly most of the diff instructor's classes I could ) and I just love all of them. With all their individual styles , they are all very knowledgeable, informative, helpful, encouraging, inspiring giving each class their own personal touch and at the same time making your experience/ practice personal for you. They offer many classes from as early as 6:30am to 9pm. Varying from 1 hour / 1hour 15mins ( gentle warm) / and 1.5 hours. And at night ( with candles ). There are lockers and cubbyholes, clothes hangers, shower stalls with all the amenities. Vending machine for power bars and other assorted quick bites & drinks. The studio provides floor mats, water sprays, scented sprays, wipes. So pretty much, just bring yourself and a change of clothes ( unless u don't mind driving sweaty), and be ready for a great hot yoga experience. Reminder: Don't eat a full/ big meal right before class !!! But don't be starving either! This is not surgery that you have to be NPO. Also. Hydrate, hydrate , hydrate. And Don't wear "sweats" ( unless u really really want to. ) We all have our personal journey & our own personal motivation for doing the hot yoga. Our experiences / practices will be diff from everyone else. But we'll undoubtedly all come out sweaty!!! I have been to several yoga studios all over the US, and heard many great things about this studio. I like the location, the size of the studio, they supply mats. I think they do a great job on their website for newcomer's to know what is expected and what the culture of the studio is like. I highly recommend a Friday evening class with Brian, he is the quintessential yogi teacher and orchestrates a creative mindful class, I love his music that he plays, his gentle voice and always comes with a great message. I do not recommend James, his energy is all wrong for yoga, he came off as arrogant, and rebellious against the way yoga was intended, the class seemed to me more about how cool and defiant he was and less about the practice, I have never taken a yoga class with such awkward poses and awkward guidance, in the end as it is practice to say namaste, he proclaimed he doesn't say that word and if we wanted to we could just say it in our heads. I will never go to one of his classes and I wish I would have known about him before I went. read more

Been here several times, both when it was a Bikram studio and now that they are a hot yoga studio. I like some of the changes, including taking out the carpet and putting in a new floor (some synthetic plastic material - has a nice feel and seems like it can be kept clean). A change seems to be that they now play music during the workout. I don't see the point and they don't make it work. Music is OK for some group exercise formats because you need the music for the beat or motivation (e.g., cycling, step). For yoga, it's not needed so why add it. Better to focus on the movements and breathing than the music. The music they play is also kind of random and doesn't match the workout (might was well just turn on the radio). For example, during the clear-your-mind savasana pose the instructor played Delilah songs about falling in love. Doesn't work. Otherwise, I like this place and very much like the instructors. Just hope they lose the music. read more

I took a hot power vinyasa class here while visiting ABQ. It was extremely hot when I entered the class room but as the class went on the temperature went down. I liked that. The class was full with all ages both male and female students but enough space to be able to practice freely. The class started off slow... a little too slow for my taste. The flow was very basic. I expected more for a power vinyasa class. I didn't see the teacher correcting anybody's form and I'm guessing it was needed as it usually is in any class I have been to. They have showers and lockers which was nice. I'd give them a try again if I'm back in town. read more

WOW- OUCH - TOUGH- AMAZING - Psyche yourself up drink plenty of water don't wear layers and get ready to sweat. This place rocks and it's good for you, flush out the toxins, build strength and get ready for a new you. Having a bad day? Go to Hot Yoga and that bad day will disappear in a second, your mind will immediately be focused on doing the pose and on your breath. Do wear something spandex since cotton gets heavy when its wet-as little as possible because you will be drenched in sweat-you will feel euphoric after and the feeling will resonate though out the rest of your day. Remember to drink water through out the day-I suggest you freeze half of your water bottle so when you go to class the water will be cold-it will melt with in the first 15 minutes.... ~NAMASTE~ read more

I've been attending classes at Hot Yoga DT for a few months now and really like this studio. They offer a variety of hour to 1.5 hour classes and have a lot of great teachers. It's a very welcoming studio and I like the downtown/urban location. For me, it's very close to work, so it's ideal for a workout before or after the workday. It's located on Central just west of I-40 along Route 66 and is very walkable from great spots in EDo, like the Artichoke Cafe, The Grove and Holy Cow, for pre or post grub. It's also right across the street from Hotel Parq Central, if you're staying there and want to hop over for a drop in. I started off with paying per class to try it out, then got their $30 for 30 days unlimited pass (their version of a Groupon), and now I have a 10 class pass. Yoga has been a great addition to my exercise routine to improve my balance, flexibility and overall mental toughness to stay in the room! It definitely does get hot, especially if you're under one of the heaters or if the class is really packed. But they always welcome you to just lay down and chill if needed. Be sure to bring water and a towel (both for your mat and for your body), but they offer mats (for free) for you to use if you don't have your own. Just be sure to wipe it down after! They also have that weird woven synthetic absorbent floor in the hot room, so it's grippier but takes getting used to when walking on it (no shoes allowed.) The ladies locker room is fully equipped with showers, blow dryers, lockers, etc. which is handy if you want to clean up before you go to work or head home. I usually bring my own padlock to secure my stuff, and they also lock the front door during classes. Namaste! read more

This place is amazing...regardless of our level, experience or comfort in the practice of yoga - they are welcoming, warm and helpful. The studio is clean, easy to find and very inviting! This is my first real experience with yoga...and hot yoga is amazing! You truly reach a level of euphoria during class that stays with you long after you finish your practice. Highly recommended for anyone looking to relieve stress, center themselves, try something new and challenging, and test the limits of what they thought the body was capable. I played college volleyball and have the injuries to show for it...this is the first thing that I have found that really helps to not only challenge and stretch me and has actually helped to heal many of my aches and pains. Drink lots of water!!! Wear a little as possible and remember that no one is judging you or your practice - find your inner self and move from there - and when you can quiet your mind and really engage yourself in the 26 different postures - it is such an incredible feeling! This is the best I found in ABQ. Emilie runs the hot power class and it is a professionally challenging class which mixes it up class to class. Level 3 if you want to take it there. Never a fan of the Hot 105 temperature, and I have practiced for 20 years strong, but this will work for the Alpha and the Omegas. Showers for post trama cleanup. Next to the beautiful HPC, Hotel Parq Central. Hit the roof top lounge, Apothecary after 3 to reward yourself for a hard Sunday practice. read more

I hit up yoga studios when I travel and have tried a number of studios locally, and I'd put HYDT up against the best anywhere. HYDT has fantastic instructors across the board. This is going to be one of my sincerest and honest reviews I've ever done, so be warned. My dad pushed me into trying yoga one day. It was an early morning class, I can't remember what time exactly, but it was early. At that point in my life I was a young, fit, enthusiastic, try anything kind of girl (although I'm still young I have become far too cynical, which I'm pretty sure is a symptom of age). The kind of young person you start to hate a little more after every birthday. I had never done yoga before and I was excited to try something new. In so many ways I was right, it was new, and it was kind of fun. In so many ways I was absolutely dead wrong. First off, Hot Yoga smells. People that say, "oh, it doesn't smell THAT bad." Have either been chain smoking for years or have had all of their smell abilities burned off by the smell of hot stinky butts, underarms, and feet. This is where I first regretted my decision to even try hot yoga. I regretted it so hard. It reminds me of a fart bubble, in my mind, it's a large green thing I can run away from if I hear someone fart in public so I don't have to inhale their stench. No, not hot yoga, I can just picture this enormous green sulfuric gas cloud surrounding my body that incorporates the smell of every single stinky, sweaty, unwashed body part (I will leave your mind to wander here) attaching itself to my skin. That smell does go away after you've been in the hot room for a couple of minutes, but at that point you don't seem to mind because it's hot. You're body is struggling for its life and it would rather struggle to stay cool than worry about the giant gas cloud that has consumed your being. This smell and the fact that I drank luke warm coconut water after class one night is the reason I will forever avoid coconut water, because its what I picture hot yoga gas bubble to taste like. You're probably thinking by this point, "heckkkk to the no, this sounds disgusting, this sounds miserable, I think this chick clicked the wrong star rating." However, hot yoga is essentially an epic battle between body and mind. It hurts, it's uncomfortable, it's hot, it's long, and at some points it becomes emotionally unbearable. I really enjoy hot yoga, because it's like torture attempting to line my mind and my body together. As I lay on my yoga mat through some poses because I literally can not stand another second, but know I have to keep trying. After your yoga practice there is a feeling of relief. Relief of the struggle your body went through, your mind, and your emotional state of being. The instructors at Hot Yoga Downtown are great. They push you, which is something that needs to happen, they support you, and make sure you're practicing yoga safely. Last few times I've went have been quite unenjoyable. Music depends on instructor. Wish they'd stick with a more meditative flow, Instead of bad 80s music in the morning. Unenjoyable atmosphere. Room reeked of B.O. past visits and it's just a bit too much for me to handle. Such a great place to practice. I've had 3 separate instructors and they were all great. I think they are pretty careful about who they chose to lead the classes. I wish it wasn't $100/month..but that's about the going rate for hot yoga around the city. If you want to stop in and take a class..there's a $14 fee for drop ins. However, the new member fee is $30 for a full month of unlimited classes...so you might as well just do that! They'll provide you with a mat and a block, but you'll need to bring everything else (mainly your own towel). Enjoy!! read more

This is my 1st ever hot yoga studio experience, and I've been coming regularly for 4+ months. I had been an on-again/ off again yoga practitioner for 5 yrs, and during that time I had also found the occasional great "cold yoga" class and instructor who wasn't afraid to get our heart rates up. Hot Yoga Downtown's practice is what I need at this point in my life: strengthening, heart-pounding and restorative. Each trainer is different, but there are common themes and approaches among the teachers. You may find you prefer some of the trainers over others and that's legit. Try a few. The music isn't for everyone, but from my point of view - and maybe yours - having a wall of windows fronting Central and constant background noise creates a welcome mental challenge that helps develop methods to drown out noise when away from the studio. It's surprisingly effective. People come to class for the typical reasons: a great workout, mental health, spirituality... I came for a workout and have benefitted well beyond my expectations. read more

You probably wont realize how intense it was until you are lying down for your final Savannah. I love Jame's class too. It is definitely different. I visited Albuquerque for a week and took advantage of the new student special. This studio is exceptional from what I am accustomed to. The staff are friendly, caring and obviously part of a community. This studio is not as stuffy as other studios I have been too, in fact I felt part of the group by my second day. I took the hot vinyasa classes and the warm gentle class. Hot vinyasa was hot and flowing, hotter than I am used to but enjoyable. The warm and gentle was a welcome change after 4 straight days of hard flow. I highly recommend trying this place. read more

Not too impressed that the first class drop in rate is $14 and you need to purchase or rent a towel (either is $3) if you want to use one. So grand total to try your first class is $17 plus tax. I've never been to a yoga studio that doesn't have first class free to try or provide towels. The class was great however. Just disappointed by first impression. read more
