If you're looking for a convenient place to snag a quick bite in Davis, BBC is a good standby. I've been here twice now, and while I personally don't venture too far from meat, cheese, bun, my dining companions have, and they rave about the various burger offerings (particularly the Waikiki and Black & Bleu burgers). Their burgers ARE pretty tasty - hand formed, cooked to order. Fresh, tasty, and they don't taste or feel like a meat-flavored scoop of grease. And the wait staff has been pretty good - attentive, pleasant. The service can be a bit slow, especially when this place is crowded... which happens pretty fast given how small the place is. It's nice there are tables outside at least. The two times I've been, there have also been large groups of 6-8ppl coming at once, all expecting to sit together, and since it's a fairly tiny establishment, it gets loud and packed fast. I'm hoping now that Tufts is done for the summer, it won't be quite so jampacked at every hour of the day. Also- I wouldn't call this a bargain burger joint, not in the least. B/c seriously - who orders a burger without fries? That's where they get you. At $6-7 dollars an order, the fries are extra. Tasty- very tasty, especially their sweet potato fries, and they give you a generous portion- but a bit pricey when you're already paying $8-10 for a burger. BBC isn't terrible, but it's not great. It does the job. And I'll definitely go back, only b/c there are two things on the menu I'm still waiting to try: the Artery Clogger (a deep fried burger) and the BBC Sweet Potato Fries (sweet potato fries with caramel and cinnamon). The skinny: approx $8-12 gets you a massive excellently cooked burger (with awesome toppings) and freshly made potato chips and a little side. The dip: my second time eating here. So this will cover both experiences. 1) Burger portions seem to be slightly more than 1/2 pound. They cook to order VERY WELL, meaning if you ask for rare side of medium-rare, they listen; when you ask for medium side of medium-rare, they listen. That was the order we put in tonight, and they got it perfect, my friend's burger was slightly pinker than mine. They cook over a fire (not a griddle) as far as I can tell; and since I prefer fire over griddle, BIG plus in my book. Few other places flame broil it seems. 2) Topping selections for the burgers is awesome. They all seem well suited and well thought out, not just "stuff on a burger." Probably no bad selections. 3) The potato chips are house-made and you get them with every burger order (I think, or at least every burger I've ordered). They are freshly fried and super crunchy, and much more substantive than a regular potato chip from a bag. They replace the typical order of fries that would normally come with a burger. And you lose nothing in the experience, the chips are fantastic. You also get an option for cole slaw or something else (baked beans?) and the slaw is crispy and not drowned in mayo. 4) I got the sweet potato fries and the chili cheese fries before. Both were great. The sweet potato was pretty good, better than other places, and the chili cheese was killer. Huge portion, huge toppings, all delicious. 5) Only sucky thing is they have like 8 tables so you pretty much can never dine in. So just know that you're waiting at least 30 mins on weekends, but you can do take out (often about 15 minutes from order to pickup). There is outdoor seating on site if weather is nice. The wrap: my fav burger place in Boston, far better than Eagle's Deli, slightly better than Mr Bartley's (perhaps mainly because I like flame vs griddle cooking). I fail. I fail so bad. On the offchance that I can actually finish my meal next time, I might be able to write a more comprehensive review. I was very satisfied though with my half of burger (plain and simple, I'm not adventurous enough to have peanut butter and bananas on a burger) and as many fries I could shovel down before I was amply stuffed and on the verge of explosion. I opted out of the coleslaw or baked beans that came with the meal (personally I'm just not a fan), though the chips were a nice added touch, but for the love of goodness people, did you not see the size of that burger you just made?!? Chips just seem like overkill at that point. I get it, I'm skinny, my mom has been telling me for years that I need to gain weight and put some meat on my bones, but I don't really think this is what she had in mind. The food here is perfectly fine. Not great, not terrible. The bacon cheddar fries had ample bacon and good cheese coverage but could have been seasoned a bit more. The chicken panini was fine. Not really a panini, and the chicken was cut a bit thin, so it got a tad dried out in spots. The ketchup on the table might have been rancid. The cole slaw was kind of a throw away item. In a week where we did some very upscale dining, I never would have guessed the best table service we had was from a waitress at a burger joint. In the midst of the extreme madness I should have learned to expect on days that pre-paid coupons expire (BuyWithMe) - we had a waitress who was alert, attentive, helpful and responsive without being intrusive. She knew the menu and the food prep and her timing was impeccable. Six stars for her. If I owned a restaurant, I would try to steal her away. The place is tiny and popular - the crowded buzz was the only real downer. I understand they will be expanding which is a good thing. The food was very good. I was a fat kid and got mac and cheese & bacon ON my burger. You know they place has got to be good if they use mac & cheese as a condiment.... And first time I ever had shipyard apple beer! Had this restaurant recommended to me by my girlfriend and it was definitely worth a try. The portions are quite large so we chose to order for one and share. We had the Cajun Fries and Honey BBQ Wings. All worth their money. One qualm I do have is that I found this place to be quite small - you will be close enough to hear the conversation at the next table and it can be uncomfortable to move around, especially when most tables are occupied but I found most people to be accommodating. Our server was both helpful and attentive and the staff was friendly overall. As far as atmosphere, it can get noisy as more people trickle in though they keep music playing in the background and it's not loud to the degree that is would be distracting. Tried the 'artery clogger' and it lived up to its name. A deep fried patty and cheese sounded tantalizingly decadent in theory, but the breading made the burger too dry and it sat a little heavy in my stomach. The saucier Waikiki burger was a nice. I liked the contrast between the sweetness of the pineapple and the hearty, fatty flavor of the meat. A little saucier than I would have liked, but overall a solid burger. read more

Updating this review to reflect my latest experiences. This is really a 5-star place. I absolutely love Boston Burger Company. I don't know the number of times I've had a burger here and the different kinds I've had but they have all been top notch consistently and always. The wait sucks and it's a small place but they can't do anything about that unless JP Licks closes shop and they knock down that wall. I have yet to have a better burger in town. This one place at Harvard comes close but I was drunk so I don't feel at liberty to compare. I can't even imagine what I'd think of Boston Burger if I experienced it drunk. read more

No joke....BEST BURGER I EVER HAD! I decided to try this place because the owner was on Rachel Ray. He was on there to compete for best burger and he won! He made his infamous "hot mess" burger which looked yummy. So, I dragged my BF along to try it and we are happy that we did! Owning a fast food joint myself, I know the slow times of the day so we went just before the dinner crowd. The staff greeted us, great personality, friendly and warm. Our waitress was very attentive and never let our glasses get empty. As for the food, we got the app sampler which was excellent. The mac n cheese bite were dynamite! It's an amazing place. Such treat for vegetarians. You can almost make any burger into a vegetarian burger. I would definitely go again.

I've been a big fan of the place since I first set foot in it. I can only comment on the veggie burgers, which are scrumptious. Made in-house, and nicely pan fried (I assume; is there any other way they could be so crispy on the outside and moist and tasty inside?), the folks and BBC will make just about any version of their burgers with their veggie patties. I can vouch for the following varieties: The Alpine: it has garlic sauteed mushrooms and swiss cheese. The Vegetarian: it has avocado and other stuff. The North Ender: my very favorite, it has fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and balsamic mayo. The had a special once called the Bistro Burger, I can't remember what was on it but the veggie version was also delicious. I wish they had a veggie version of the baked beans because I'm not much of a coleslaw fan. So my only option for the side is extra homemade potato chips. Those are really tasty. Giant side orders of fries have been way too large even when sharing with dining companions, and maybe a couple of notches over the top since the chips come with your sandwich anyway. They are great quality burgers and I would definitely recommend the Mac attack which is their homemade Mac and cheese on a burger. This burger was also featured on diners drive ins and dives and it is still my favorite episode to watch. They also have really good milkshakes. I created an account just so I could write this review. I've never been so disappointed by a restaurant in my life. I came in with my sister on a Monday evening, coming in at around 8:45. The restaurant itself was about half-filled, with maybe 10 or so tables at the max. Unfortunately, the service was anything but lovely. The usual questions on whether everything was "alright" seemed to be nonchalant, almost as if reading it off a script and without genuine concern for the well-being of diners. I waited for 5+ minutes with my food just out of reach on the table, with the chefs ringing the bell twice to get the attention of the waitress who was standing about an arms-length away on her phone for most of it. And this ignores the food itself, which could be best called "overpriced" and "mediocre" at best. I've always received positive words about this place from my friends, so I was under the assumption that the food here would be extravagant -- big, bold and delicious. Unfortunately, the "Build your own Burger" was average at best. Nothing really stuck out about it at all, which was disappointing coming from a burger place. Perhaps one of their weirder creations would have been better. Note that these don't come with fries on their own (they have chips instead), which seems odd when some burgers can be $15+. The garlic parmesan fries fared no better. They were normal fries with shredded parmesan dumped on top. I had expected for these fries to be, well, garlic parm fries -- at least they could have tossed them or something and added a grated coating so it would stick to the fries. Instead, I got fries that were obliterated with tasteless shredded cheese (note that parmesan doesn't even melt well) and many cheeseless fries at the bottom. I would barely pay $10 for good garlic parm fries, not this desecrate combination of cheese and potato. It's really hard to mess up cheese and potatoes, and somehow they managed to do it. Despite the constant praise, Boston Burger Company disappointed in all regards. Slow and inattentive service, less-than-stellar food, and $29 for what was essentially a burger, fries, chips, and a drink. I've heard sooooo many ups and downs about this place since it opened. Finally got the chance to try it a few days ago. Overall -ok. The food was good - mac and cheese bites, turkey burger and sweet potato fries. Good! Sweet potato fries were just the way I liked them - crispy not too sweet and big! none of this shoe-string business. the only critique i have is the setting. we sat near the door entry way and there were people breathing over the ledge the ENTIRE TIME! i'm can deal with a lot at a restaurant, and i know why they left this open but please please close it off! make it a little hallway. its so uncomfortable having people who are waiting for a table, watching you eat. i feel rushed and i do not like it. even if the food was good - it would be make me not want to come back. read more

If you can't cook a burger right, then there is something wrong with you. I guess what I'm trying to say is that burgers for me are pretty much the same everywhere. I mean obviously this place makes better burgers than a fast food joint, but when I'm comparing it to Christopher's or to RF O'Sullivan's near Porter Square... I also came here during prime dinner time hours. What I ate was the inferno burger with a side of sweet potato fries. Burger had spicy mayo and homemade habanero salsa. I forgot if cheese was involved. It definitely had a good kick to it, but not like Indian lamb vindaloo kick in your mouth. Fries had a good crisp and the chips weren't bad too. The chips were the thick kind that were strong enough to withstand a ketchup dip. If there is a cool thing about this place, it's that it looks like there is a myriad of burger options to try out, so numerically I'd give it a 3.5, but my math teacher always told me to round up if something ended in 5 so, Boston Burger, you get a 4 star. read more

Waikiki Burger = salty and salty and sadly not as tasty as I would have wanted it to be. Topped with teriyaki sauce, pineapple, ham and bacon. Too much sauce. I like a lot of stuff on my burgers - but this overwhelmed the subtle taste of the buger itself. I couldn't taste anything but salty teriyaki. The pineapple looked out of the can (I was hoping for some fresh grilled pineapple -- no dice). This is not to say that the other burgers didn't look amazing. The dude got the Burger Bomb (american cheese, peppers and onions). This was pretty delicious. We ordered the classic fries -- which were also really tasty. I really, really wanted to like Boston Burger Company - a cool, little burger joint right in the heart of Davis Square is definitely a good idea. Unfortunately, I think that Boston Burger Company's burgers just don't really deliver on that promise. I ordered my jalepeno burger medium and it came on the well done side of medium rare. It was competently but unremarkably executed - about how you'd expect a burger you'd order at any bar. No serious deficiencies, but not an "on my god I love this meat" experience by a long shot. I'd put the burgers on par with Old Magoun's Saloon over in Magoun Square - which suits that place since I'm usually there primarily for boozin'. And there's the rub - I'd expect more from a restaurant with "burger" rather than "saloon" in the name. For example, Bartley's can get away without liquoring me up and I'd say -- as much as it pains me to do so -- that BBC can't. So decent eats if you're hankering for a burger experience sans alcohol, but I'd skip it and head to Orleans, Christopher's, Cambridge Common, O'Sullivan's.. or to any of the establishments in the area where you can get a decent burger -- along with a glass of beer. read more

Whenever I pass this place my eyes tear up as I lament the loss of my dear sweet Antonia's. That was an awesome Italian place that could rival the food in the North End and made my taste buds sing with joy with every delicious bite. So, you can imagine how sad I was when I learned that this delightful place would be replaced with none other than a burger joint. Don't get me wrong, I like burgers, but why trade in gold for copper? Sigh.... I really wanted to dislike the Burger Co., but I actually like them. I really like the sweet potato fries and coleslaw, and there are a lot of options on the menu, which is nice. I've had the North Ender, All American, and Bruschetta burgers, and they were all moist, yummy, and filled with quality ground beef. Since they are so big, they are messy to eat, and I don't always appreciate eating messy food, but it's well worth it. Sometimes the burgers come out a bit bland with a strong beefy taste. I've had great luck with the initials 'BBC' - i'm a fan of the British Beer Company, tend to enjoy the few times i have tuned into the British Broadcasting Company, and thoroughly enjoyed my recent trip to Boston Burger Company. I like a place that focuses on doing one thing and does it extremely well - BBC certainly fits that description. The patties are the size i would expect from a place with 'burger' in the name, and they prepare them any way you could imagine. I ordered the Black and Bleu, a burger billed as Louisiana cajun w/ Bleu cheese. I was thankful that the cajun spiciness wasn't overpowering, and the blue cheese added exactly what it was expected to. Beware of the Jumbo - it's 2 of the large patties, and you've got to be in a certain mindset to finish that thing in one sitting. Certainly doable, but make sure you're packing your A-game before ordering it. The homemade 'chips' that come with the burger are absolutely addictive - despite being full after the burger i cleaned my plate - leaving no chip behind. Word of caution - the dining room is tiny - not sure how busy it usually gets (wasn't actually a line on a friday night around 6:30) but can't seat a ton of people at one time. Also, when it's crowded there's really nowhere to wait inside that doesn't block people/wait staff from going in and out. We tried this place after getting a rave review from my brother and his wife. Plus we are fans of a great burger! We were not disappointed by the service or the burgers! I have to start by saying this place is small and I imagine if you going during lunch or dinner, you will have to wait. We did go during lunch and had a toddler and a huge a$$ stroller with us. They accommodated us with no issues and no roll of the eyes. Our server was friendly (and I must add pretty!) She was fast and helpful, letting me know that the fries would be enough for the whole table. And they were. The fries are HUGE. I mean they are cut from a whole potato and cooked...YUM! I had the Waikiki burger, which comes with a pineapple, ham, bacon and teriyaki sauce...so good and also HUGE. I had to eat it with a fork it was so big. I don't LOVE burgers but I liked this place. Good portions and interesting toppings. Not overwhelming with sauces like Bartley's Burger Cottage. Convenient location just across Davis Sq. T-stop. Prices are reasonable and they are also on LevelUp so if you pay with your phone, you can get $5 off your meal. I went on a Friday for lunch and we were a party of 5--and the restaurant is really small so I would recommend a reservation if you're going for dinner or have more than 2 people. Or you could sit outside; they have a few tables. This is where we sat and fortunately the weather was fine as long as we put the silverware on top of the menus. I wanted to try the fried mac and cheese appetizer but my friends told me that the portions were pretty big and the fries (no fries come with the burger) were a much better option so we got some regular fries instead. From peanut butter and fried bananas in your burger to mac and cheese, onion rings, mozzarella sticks all in your burger... this place deserves your attention and money. Definitely a must try place. Parking: Being an out of towner, I was not aware of the poor parking capabilities of boston. It is very much a public transit city. However, for this place, there was a parking lot just a brief walk down the street (paid parking of course - takes credit card). Space: The interior isn't too huge. Kind of split to two sides with about 9 tables on each side. On a Tuesday night, there was always an avg 15 minute wait throughout dinner time. On my visit, I had the Mac and Cheese burger and The King - Both delicious but the winner goes to The King. The peanut butter and fried bananas... though sounds weird in a burger... went well together. Delicious, juicy, not too messy. We also started the meal with the inferno fries and it's probably one of the best gourmet fries I've had. Topped with cheddar cheese, habanero salsa, ranch? jalapeno,... amazing. it definitely had a kick to it but nothing too serious. definitely a must try for spicy lovers. I stopped in here recently, because I'm always on the hunt for a quality burger in this here city. What I found was a pretty solid burger, with good selection. The burgers come with their homemade chips, which are great. The fries, if you opt to get them, are delightfully seasoned and also appear to be made in-house. These guys have the right idea - they really do. This is the perfect spot for a burger place. It's quick, fairly easy, and it's brand new/clean/modern. Really neat atmosphere. Friendly staff. It's "sit-down-restaurant" style. The BBC sweet potato fries are awesome - they are tossed in cinnamon and caramel after being cooked. The big problem here? The burgers are sub-par. They are thick on seemingly tasty buns. But nope. Not good. Just kind of chunky and not fresh-tasting. And they don't come with fries! They come with homemade chips. Last time I checked, chips are nice to have with a burger, but fries are essential. Why not give the option? And why does a place like this not have frappes?!? It was hot. Humid. And I was in search of a hamburger when the boyfriend and I turned the corner in Davis Square and both said, 'This place!' in unison. I love craving something and then inexplicably running into exactly what you were craving. It makes life's decisions easier! The menu is awesome. They serve normal burgers, but they also serve The King which is a peanut butter and fried banana burger and The Pilgrim which boasts cranberry sauce and stuffing. Also, the list of french fries flavors was amazing. I purchased a relatively boring hamburger with pineapple, and my boyfriend boldly purchased The King. I decided against the fries since, based on price, they were going to be a huge amount of food added to my huge burger. The burger came with cole slaw and tasty home-baked potato chips. The King was very interesting. I had a bite, and I had never considered peanut butter with hamburger, but it tasted pretty good. My boyfriend did say he didn't care too much for the banana. My burger was great. Cooked medium and they actually got it right; side rant- most places seem to think medium means rare and spots of uncooked meat- why is that?! The cole slaw was tasty too. Service was great. The waitress even recommend The King and said she loved it. The prices were great for the hamburger plates. I kind of think the fries were over-priced, but that if you're buying them as the meal then the price was fine just not for a side. When I left, I felt like a huge fatty. But I was okay with that. Friday night wait was 30 minutes for two. Ordered the bacon and cheese fries to share. I ordered the hot mess burger sans onions. Love love loved the burger. You know it's not McDonalds because they actually ask you how you'd like your burger cooked. My burger was packed with toppings, but not so large that I wasn't able to open my mouth wide enough. The chopped jalapenos were a nice touch. I was worried they might be too spicy, but they offered a nice kick. The chips were standard. I'm not usually a huge fan of cole slaw, but I really liked this one. A little sweet, and it complimented the burger nicely. My one complaint: the fry situation. It's a little bit of a trap. No burger is meant to be eaten without fries. But they force you to get chips and slaw (or beans) with your burger. There is no option to substitute, not even an option to substitute for, say a dollar more. No, you must fork out extra money. But the fries are so delicious. I usually hate potato wedges, but the ratio of fry coating to potato filling is perfection, and the bacon/cheddar topping was really great! Burgers are great - for the price you really can't beat it for a gourmet burger spot with granite two seat tables. They have friendly servers that aren't pushy - which is a big plus given you can have a meal for two for $20. Green Monstah burger is awesome if you enjoy avocado. The extra falls out onto your chips (which are also good). The amount that falls out is almost a perfect portion for your chips. Also have good coleslaw. read more
