Both were incredibly flavorful and came out piping hot. But the pesto pepperoni vodka sauce pizza was the standout for me. The crispy little pepperoni cups, the creamy vodka sauce, and that oily, flavorful pesto drizzled throughout were SO good. I love this restaurant! My experience is based on ordering directly for delivery from their Massachusetts shop to New Jersey. I've had their meatballs and lasagna. Both were great! The Meatball Parmigiana was delicious with a good amount of garlic. I'm very picky about my meatballs!!! I do prefer my own, but I digress. We've had the Quattro Formaggi Lasagna (4 cheese) because my daughter is a vegetarian. It did not disappoint! My daughter loved it, and I did as well. My ONLY issue is the portion size. The photos make it look like you'll be getting a 9x12 pan, but in fact, the trays are 8.75 inches long by 6.25 inches wide by 1.75 inches deep. I've been to Mortadella's twice so far. Both times were near closing (I'm sorry) and I was pleasantly surprised at how lively and upbeat the staff were (most aren't near closing time haha). My first time in was with a friend to grab a slice of their chocolate cake. She was raving about it all night and it lived up to the hype. The cake is firm but moist and fudgy. Second time, I stopper by on a whim for a slice of pizza. I got cheese and bacon ranch. The slices were delicious. I have been on a hunt for a perfect pizza slice, the kind that droops naturally when you lift it and has the perfect sauce to cheese to crust ratio, this was it. Came here to try the chopped Caesar sub, and for me it did not live up to the hype. First couple bites seemed promising, as the dressing is pretty good, but then I got overwhelmed by the sheer amount of dressing in the sandwich and found myself trying to scrape off gobs of it. They're definitely more heavy handed on the sauce, so request light dressing or have it on the side if you're not lots of dressing. I also found the cutlets to be pretty sparse and dry, and the bread was just not good in texture or flavor. Service was fine, it took 20 mins to come out which was longer than I expected, and the space is small but has some seating. I might sound old, but the music was very loud and abrasive, so I didn't finish the other half of the sandwich and left. For $15 it wasn't my kinda sandwich so I probably won't be back. read more

Use to be a 5 star. Always liked Mortadella Head story of 2 former attorneys dissatisfied with corporate life to use family recipes to do things the right way -- especially the eggplant parm. Recently tried the dinner portion and it's clearly different now that it's frozen. After baking, it came out watery and didn't have the same texture, flavor or quality as before. I called to ask and was told it's the same, but it really isn't even though person on line kept insisting it was. The bread is nice and toasted with garlic butter, good level of dressing, lots of chicken, and some prosciutto under it all! It was great. So like as some sort of cosmic joke ai keep having issues at Mortadella head. Couple weeks ago, my pizza was ice cold when i picked it up at the time quoted. This last Saturday while it was snowing i called in to order a pizza, was told 35 minutes, total price and even a joke about walking in the snow. Only to show up and be told by the young child (red hair, curly i think) to tell me that he forgot to put my fucking order in. And if i could wait (with my dog) another 35 minutes for them to start it. So i left. Time quoted was 6:36 and i showed up right around 6:40 to be told it would be 10 more minutes. So i walk my dog around for a bit come back and get my pizza. I walk home and open the boxes and i got two fucking cheese pizzas. I hate that your pizza is the best within walking distance. But at this point your establishment is akin to dunking donuts. The sub was huge but the rest of it lacked for me. The chicken was on the dry side, the lettuce was soggy and the bread was hard. It became difficult to eat it at times so I had to rip some pieces off. I wish I had a better experience for my first time especially with how much their subs cost. The inside is on the small side but there are tables to sit if you want to eat in. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. Shockingly bad delivery experience. I ordered 3 things-- mozzarella sticks, chopped Caesar sandwich and boneless wings with balsamic bbq. I didn't get the mozzarella sticks. They messed up the sauce combo on the wings--gave me buffalo and balsamic glaze together, which is an inedible combination. I called the restaurant and asked that they hold the prosciutto on the sandwich, and they did not. Had to wait a little longer than expected for my sub but flavor was incredible. Lots of chicken and perfect amount of sauce; the sauce is just right not too tangy/sour like store bought Caesar dressing. Not a lot of prosciutto compared to the videos on social media. Chicken could be a little warmer though. Recommend walking over or use public transit as there's not a lot of street parking and limited indoor seating. But I hope the staff does start wearing gloves when making the food, on social media most of the videos show them not using gloves. read more

Visited for the first time on a very busy Saturday night...both in Davis Sq and at Mortadella Head. I was excited to check this place out as I have heard a lot about it. The young lady working at the counter was awesome. She was full of energy. I noticed she didnt stop working the whole time I was there. If she was not being the counter, she was out back, in the front of the store making pizza boxes, filling the Pepsi machine or just doing general clean-up! As I waited for my food, I noticed the massive amount of food deliveries that were being picked up and delivered. Pizza and subs were flying out of the place! They have a small area to sit if someone wants to eat in. The seating seats about 10 total (my guess). I waited about 10 minutes for my sandwich before they called my name and I picked up my order. As I made my way to my car, I noticed the bag was kind of light. Unfortunately, i was right......no french fries. When I went back in, the young lady told me that their was no order placed for fries. She checked with the back and they told her 10 minutes for the fries, if I wanted them....I was not interested in waiting. My sub was great! Lot of chicken, just the right amount of pickles and ketchup! The roll was fresh and tasty! I would give it a straight up A or A- A few things to consider when ordering or picking up! 1) call ahead...they are busy! 2) bring a friend to stay in your car while you run in...not a lot of parking in Davis Sq 3) Price was good.....$17 for a large sub and a can of Pepsi 4) The pizza looked great! Went in to get some quick slices and got the mamalu, buffalo, and thin crust cheese and I thought they were all delicious! The staff was super nice and when I was going to order just 5 slices, they told us about their get 6 slices for 25$ which would've cost the same. I've been searching for quality mozzarella sticks in the Boston area and have struggled to find anything made fresh and in-house. Mortadella Head is the only place I've found made in-house (not bought frozen/pre-made from a large wholesaler). You have to check them out! They offer some of the best mozzarella sticks around and they are huge and seasoned very well! The only issue here is the price. I got a delivery Cuban sub from this place after being impressed with their TikToks. Wow, definitely a two-meal sub. I ordered bolognese lasagna from the store for home delivery. There was no bolognese sauce. There was a couple of tablespoons of plain red sauce on the bottom and top, but in between were several layers of nothing but pasta and cheese. It was horrible and I threw the entire container away. read more
