My son had his "supposed" driving test today at 7:00 am in the morning in Braintree. It didn't begin until 7:30 am. We live about an hour away without traffic. We were there early since they sent him a notification (first come first serve). We were by 5:45 am. Once they arrived they started to setup "tests" in the parking lot of the RMV in Braintree which was closed. My son was then tested in their Driver's Ed car primarily (90%) in the parking lot. I watched as they asked him to perform parallel parking, signaling, and a 3-point turn. The person who was testing him (which we don't know if they are a RMV representative) failed him for a 3-point turn because (he was too far to the left of the cones". Why would cones positioning matter when a 3 point turn is executed to have you make a left toward the curb, and then reverse far enough to pull forward again to drive to the opposite side of a road. Again, this test was performed in a parking lot, not on a street where you can observe proper execution of a 3 point turn. While at the so-called "test", my son found out that of the 25 odd people there, they were all re-testing because they had failed the first time. Scam is written all of this operation. In addition to this charade of a test, he was supposed to have had a hour driving practice in the car he would be tested on August 5th. Instead we only received 30 minutes due to the company not specifying that for practice driving in their vehicle he *must* have a printed copy of his permit. We wasted 30 minutes discussing why this was necessary and then finding a UPS where we paid to print out a copy of the permit (which was on his phone). This company repeatedly did not respond to emails or calls leading up to the practice driving or the "test". The owner John stated that he had to fire his office person because she was not doing her job. Problem is, once he told us this, he didn't remedy the situation. In total I spent $250 and are not *any* closer to my son having his license. I will be reporting this company to the Mass Attorney General's office. read more

Avoid this Driver's School AT ALL COSTS. Yes, my son eventually got his license, but scheduling lessons were a nightmare. No one answers the phone, the voice mailbox is full, no one emails back, no one staffs the office. If you manage to get John on the phone, he is actually very nice. However, there is no way to book online or get a confirmation of your lesson time. My son's lessons cancelled with no prior communication, and then sometimes the instructor would text him and ask where he was, so imaginary lessons were scheduled without me knowing. You basically have to schedule all 12 lessons at the same time because the chances of you being able to get a hold of someone is not great. I waited for about 3 months before we were able to get a copy of our parent class documentation after I asked for the fourth time. Also the parent class was a complete waste of time. Alex just rambled on and on about random things and the only useful things we got out of it was John's email address. My son told me that the driver's ed classes were basically the same thing - Alex rambling on and on. He said he learned next to nothing during the online classes. My son told me that the actual driving instructors were okay and gave him some good tips, like three point turns and parallel parking, but they definitely didn't give him a lesson for the full hour and sometimes the instructor stopped to get a bite to eat. He got the impression that the instructors also were pretty lax about things that were on the driving test and let some things slide that probably shouldn't have. Also, don't let them convince you that you need to rent a car from them for the driver's test. You don't need a "sponsor". Use your own car for free. In summary, spend the extra money and go somewhere else. You will thank me later. read more

I would highly recommend Boston Driver's Ed, all three of my boys participated in their program. The in class work, in addition to the crash videos that they watch, definitely have a huge impact on them. My youngest son just recently was in an accident, as a very young driver, I definitely attribute his ability to recover from this potentially devastating accident, to the training he received from Boston Driver's Ed to "steer into the skid." Beware, go elsewhere, this guy is a low life!! Save yourself the frustration and let down from a school that lacks professionalism, communication skills and respect of your time. We purchased the full drivers ed package, we didn't receive a link, but got a confirmation email of my payment, I had to call to ask for a link and conform we were on the schedule, my son complained after day 1 with the online classes, there were no structure and the guy who taught the class barely spoke english, was lacking any knowledge of how to teach the class, the teacher was unprepared and did not know how to share his screen and expected the students to read the piece of paper he shoved onto the computer screen. My son completed the 30 hrs, next I called to talk to the owner to let him know I will go in person to schedule appointments, upon arriving there was another parent waiting, the place was closed, we waited outside and began chatting, only to find out that her son had a behind the wheel lesson the day before and was blown off, and it happened 3 times to them, no one would pick up the phone or call them to let them know what happened, she was furious, then the owner shows up 25 mins late to open the doors, at this point I was not sure I would put my son through lessons knowing already this was going to be one headache after another, so I asked for a refund, the guy tells me he will deduct the classroom fee, tells me he will put the check in the mail, and 2 weeks later, no check, I called and told him to cancel whatever he put in the mail and that I will go pick up the check in person, the day before I go, he emails me to tell me he was at the hospital with his son with COVID, I said fine, I'll call again, 10 days later I go back and he gave me a check for $350, it was $42 less than what I should get back, he begrudgingly gave me another check for $372, now $22 less-YOU GET WHAT I AM SAYING HERE ABOUT THIS PLACE. I left, didn't want to waste another minute. How pathetic! After I wasted my time and money, I found another place elsewhere with the complete opposite experience. A breath of fresh air! Terrible experience. After I bought a 10-hour package in March, I tried to schedule lessons for over a month and rarely if ever heard back from them. I've been trying since April to get a refund on those lessons, to no avail. That's 475 bucks down the drain and I never even had a lesson scheduled. The only excuse I got for my lessons not being scheduled was a "family emergency," which I've seen mentioned in other reviews on here. I've noticed that some people have had a positive experience with this company (and in fact, I took lessons with them a few years ago that were great!) But since the chance is 50/50 that they're going to take your money, fail to provide a service, and then fail to refund you, I highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Overall Good Experience! I signed up for the 2-hour + road test package. If you are an experienced driver or licensed internationally I would highly recommend this package. They teach you how to take the road test and YOU WILL PASS! Customer Service: if you want decent customer service immediately ask to speak with Ruth. No one else was helpful. I work 8:30am-5:30pm in downtown Boston and with every other receptionist I couldn't get any lessons for the following 4 weeks. Slots magically opened up when I spoke with Ruth. She was able to schedule me on a Sunday and at 5pm on a Friday. And when you sign up for a lesson there is no confirmation email or text. You just have to remember when your test is and hope that you're correct. My first lesson was with Alex and he was great, very talkative but great. He clearly knows what he's teaching and he wants you to succeed. My second lesson was with Z who was also very good. I was his last lesson of the day and he was not as attentive as Alex had been. It was clear that he had formal training and knew what they would be looking for on the test. The one frustrating thing was that they both teach different and it would be nice if all drivers taught the same tips and tricks. My son went through the driver training program and passed all his requirements in the spring of 2021. He turned in his documents to the trainer at Boston Driver's Ed. He passed his driver's test and received his license. As of March 2022, his driver's training is still not showing up on our insurance policy. I've been calling and emailing John at the office. No word back. I even stopped by the office and was told that he would get it done by 2pm that afternoon and nothing has been done. My next stop will be to complain to RMV. They did a false promise, that they can book my road test on a weekend, I already paid the amount but now no one is picking up the call.

I got my permit at the end of October and was quick to book several driving hours online. The day of my first driving hour I get a call saying it was cancelled with no explanation. Two weeks later I get another call on the day of my driving hour saying there was "a glitch in the system" and my hour was cancelled... And a week after that I got another call cancelling my next driving hour. It wasn't until January that my hour was finally not cancelled. After that lesson I had another two driving hours cancelled because of the "glitch in the system and a double booking." If we hadn't called them angrily, I wouldn't have finished my hours until the end of the year most likely. Long story short: the only good part of my whole experience was the one week in drivers ed, which is usually the worst... I have all of the voicemails that were left but this is only one January 29th: Good morning this is Ruth I'm calling here from Boston Drivers Ed L, your 2 o'clock class was um has been canceled um we had a glitch in the system and it was double booked um please reschedule um or you can go online and reschedule thank you..." read more

Absolutely horrific experience. Do not waste a second of your time with this place. It is the most unprofessional company I have interacted with. They could write a book called "How to lose a customer in 10 days," since that's about how long it takes them. I called John and paid for a 3-hour package and road test. The first two lessons were fine. Then for the next two is when things started to derail: for the Monday this past week, Lisa (who should get an award for poor customer service) texted me at 10:33 pm on Sunday night to cancel. For Wednesday, John simply never showed up. And these were 7 am lessons where I woke up extra-early to make them work. Unbelievable. And the road test they supposedly booked me on was only 3 weeks away. Then I called John on Wednesday after the no-show. After making several excuses, he finally apologized and said he would give me two free hours to make up for the no-show and last-minute cancellation this week. I accepted. On Thursday I called to book the lessons. Lisa told me (with John speaking to her in the background) that they no longer had capacity for me in their schedule and that she would refund me for the remaining lesson and the road test. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! After John promised me the two free lessons and said that he had booked me for the road test. Lisa said that I should have booked extra lessons earlier if I wanted to make it work for the road test. Did she forget that it's their fault the two lessons I booked for this week did not take place???? I had emailed John THREE times to book extra lessons but he NEVER responded. And he had told me in the first lesson that he responds to emails within 30 minutes. What a bunch of lies. Here are the emails I sent with the dates: 1. Dec 7: "... I am a little concerned that two more lessons may not be enough before the road test. Would you have time to schedule an additional three (so five more total) before the road test.." 2. Dec 14: "I would like to schedule more lessons with you. I am getting a little nervous since Jan 9 is right around the corner and we have done only two lessons so far...." 3. Dec 16: "...Let's schedule some lessons. What works for you/ your other instructors next week?" And then Lisa has the nerve to tell me that I should have scheduled more lessons if I wanted them to happen. You are better off taking your money and burning it than giving it to Boston Drivers Ed. I have to write something this time. I booked a 10-hour package. However, the instructors never showed up. According to what they said, they didn't show up for the scheduled first and second course because the windshield of the car was broken due to the horrible thunder storm. Well, that sounded reasonable for me, although that means I had to reschedule the driving lessons and put off my road test. When it came to the scheduled third course, the instructor still didn't show up because he had some emergency. Well, something always happened in life but that instructor or other people in Boston Driver's Ed didn't even call me or email me. WARNING!!! Do not trust this place!!!!! I contacted John when I first wanted to do driving hours. He responded quickly and was very personable. He scheduled my hours and road test within the upcoming two weeks! I was shocked at how easy it was. I should've known it sounded too good to be true!!!!!! I took my first 2 hours with Katie. I scheduled from 1-3. She had it as 2-4, which I shrugged it off as a minor mistake. The first thing she asked me for was the money. I figured they play it safe to avoid getting into later problems. Katie wasn't very professional, however, she was nice. I didn't get much out of the time we spent but I figured it was just an initial test run to assess my driving. When the time for the next 2 hours came around I called the school to verify the time. I was told john was busy and that i'd get a call back. Hours passed... I texted john multiple times, no response. I called multiple times, and again, no response. The next day I called off of another number and John answered. He answered quickly and said he would call back. Again, I never received a call; even after many sent texts and calls. I can't verify the truth in what I was told but the next day I called (again from another number) and John answered and he claimed there was a family emergency and he told someone to contact me. He apologized and said he would speak to the registry and call me back. Mind you it is now the day before when my test is supposed to be, and only 2 of my 6 hours were done because of their negligence. As you can expect John again never contacted me back. I am an extremely patient person but this was too much for me. It was now the day of the test and I was not given any call backs, any apologies, absolutely no explanations!! I was left with nothing except for $342 out of my pocket for nothing!! Of course I called them furiously and requested my money back which surprisingly wasn't as much of a hassle, seeing as the customer service prior was horrible. I am a 30 year old first time driver that was nervous about finally learning to drive and taking my test. John was an incredibly patient, welcoming and kind instructor, who immediately put me at ease. He has a rare combination of both the technical and teaching skills to effectively train others, as well as the personality and empathy to make that training fun and relaxing. His parallel parking technique is also incredibly helpful! Knowing that I had his "seal of appproval" made me much more confident to take my test, which was significantly easier to arrange through him than on my own. I used Boston Ed for driving classes for my 65 yo father. I read the poor reviews about this school pertaining to adult sponsorship but I still wanted to give it a try as John seemed to be a decent person and wanted to support his business. I sent an email via website, John replied in a quick manner and was very enthusiastic about helping my father. We purchased the road test sponsorship package for 190 but with administrative fees came close to 245 dollars for 2 hour lesson and sponsorship. I specifically requested for him to be the instructor as he speaks Spanish and my father needed a Spanish-speaking instructor/sponsor (he does not speak english). Lisa was very nice and prompt to schedule our appointment with a tentative road test for a Saturday. We then got notified the test on Saturday was not available and instead we were given a week day. We went ahead and accepted the change. The day of the class John did not show up for the class but instead sent another instructor, Jose. The class went well. Jose told my father he would be at his road test and that he was going to come the day before the test to practice. My father stood by our front door for hours waiting for Jose to come the day before his test and he did not show up. The day of the test of course Jose was not there and instead John was there who had never met my father and was supposed to translate for him. This was a source of stress and I am not sure how much it influenced on the results as he failed his test. We then were contacted the next day by Lisa to book another 245 dollar package. I again asked for a Saturday as we have a toddler and both (husband and I) work full time. I also brought up the incident with John not giving the lesson and they booked us with John again for a two hour lesson. A couple of days after, Lisa called us and offered us a Monday or Tuesday for road test. We took one of the days. My father then went to his class at the school and since he got there 30 minutes late, I called to let the office know he was arriving late and John answered the phone. He assured me he was going to give the lesson and be present at the road test. The day of the second road test came and as you can imagine already, surprise surprise...John was not there, and Jose was there instead. If you are and adult or senior, PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY, consider getting a private instructor or looking at other schools that truly know what they are doing. This school is not qualified for this service and they will not tell you before they have gotten your money. read more

I registered online for the 2-hour class plus the sponsorship for the driving exam. My experience with the school was very mixed. It was hard to plan things with them at the beginning and it took more than a month. They don't respond to emails at all. None of my many emails were answered and I made sure to include both John and Tania as recipients. I heard some one else make the same comment on the driving exam date. When I called, the person said that I needed to pay the RMV before they schedule the test, which was incorrect according to the RMV. I called many times after that and was told that they would look into it but I didn't get an answer. After 2 weeks, I had to take time off from work and go there in person during work hours and schedule the 2h class and the test date. The website says to email them for scheduling, but from my experience, if you're looking to do this through them, you're best off going there in person. The 2h class was great. I got Alex as the instructor. We went around Waltham, North Waltham, Newton, even all the way to Wayland for 2h and practiced everything that I was going to be tested on multiple times. He was very patient and helpful and made me feel really confident about finally doing the driving exam. The car was in great condition and pretty easy to drive. Overall, I had a very positive experience in the 2h class. I only got to meet John on the driving exam day at the RMV. He seemed very friendly and passionate about what he does. He gave us an overview of what we were going to be tested on, who the examiner was, and gave us a pretty awesome pep talk to encourage us. I wished I had interacted with him more just because of his cool personality and how much he seemed to genuinely care about his students. So their customer service gets a 1-star but their driving instructors get a 5-star. I would recommend them, but, again, maybe I would go to their office in person and don't rely on Email or phone calls if they're not responsive. It would be great if they can improve that part of the business because the rest of my experience with them was great. read more

I received 6 hours of private driving instruction from Boston Driver's Ed from my husband as my wedding gift on our wedding day! Background about me: I'm in my late twenties, got my license when I was a teenager, but I went to college in NYC shortly after getting my license, and never really had the need to drive around. I also have always had some anxiety with driving, and to be honest didn't deserve to get my license when I did (I didn't practice enough, took my driving exam when I was 17 on Christmas Eve in New Jersy and the examiner just gave it to me even though he said I wasn't ready, as a Christmas gift... big mistake) so I've generally avoided driving ever since. One of my last driving experiences was getting rear ended, so in short - I needed some emotional support when facing the wheel again, and I was interested in regaining the confidence and assertiveness that comes from driving. I am also studying to be a physician so I really needed to get comfortable with driving! Luckily - Boston Driver's Ed was the perfect choice for me as an adult learner with anxiety to feel comfortable behind the wheel again. I took my 6 hours of private instruction with John. John is kind, patient, calm, grounded experienced, very knowledgeable, and most importantly - a great teacher. In my opinion a great teacher is someone who meets the student where they are, and supports them along the way. He tailored his teaching style to my individuality and my specific needs. With John, I wasn't just student X being taught the same way every student is taught, but I felt that he made the effort to communicate with me in a way that I understood and was extremely observant and supportive in his interactions with me. He also assured me I wasn't alone in my journey (apparently "went to college in NYC" is a common condition amongst anxious drivers!). Not only is John a great teacher, but he's also a great person. He is a family man who started this business on his own. I always love to support small companies and kind people. He's softhearted, sensitive, and remembered me from lesson to lesson and was always extremely kind yet always very professional. I think a lot of people take the skill of driving for granted. From my lessons, John jumpstarted a greater sense of confidence and independence in my life. I now have an association of a feeling of calmness when I think of driving and at the end of my last lesson, John told me he thinks that I'm ready to drive on my own, but it was up to me to decide when I truly felt comfortable. Terrible experience. I signed up because they had the earliest available Saturday driving test, which then had to be rescheduled. I only needed a couple lessons to brush up and then take the test. However, they never told me that the driving test location was in Dorchester, not Waltham. (The owner argued that everyone else got the correct location, but as I wasn't part of a formal class I didn't get the same information as everyone else.) There also was no opportunity to drive in the test vehicle until I literally was behind the wheel for my own turn at the test. Lastly, after registering for a test with another driving school, I find out that they never paid the RMV test fee, which I thought was included in the full price. Evidently, if you take part in their formal long course as a teen, you get the information you need from them. If you just need to take a sponsored test, stay away. read more

Never trust this school. Tried to schedule a two hour package with Saturday Road test with them, but the first lady said that the person responsible was on leave and asked me to call two days later. When I called back two days later, they were like not having any records, and only after painfully insisting that they said they could schedule it 2 weeks later. Two weeks passed, seeing the review by others about this school, I called on the day which they scheduled the two-hour class just to confirm the appointment, and John told me that nothing was scheduled on the day, not even the road test. Lots of excuses, when talking to John, he claimed that the examiner had personal issues therefore the test was cancelled! Believing such "reason" should be at the reader's discretion. Then John became impatient quickly, and rudely asked for the transaction information without even explaining a thing, then rudely said a refund with an awful attitude. Who knows if they won't lose this memory of refund and suck up the money! Update: Soon after this review was posted, I received a text saying that "Review should be truthful. Some ppl have your personal information =)" Let the reader judge. Update 2, in reply to John: It was John, in the second conversation in the morning, who did not ask a question other than asking for my credit card transaction date, and then jumped to say a refund without any chance of discussing other options, and cynically saying "this is better for both you and me". In this respect, I am afraid you have already breached the trust between you and your customer. Reasons or excuses, it is not for me to judge. People do need to make a lot of arrangements to suit the appointment times, and people do not revolve around the school. Please note that the poor review is not just for this conversation, but also the previous booking procedures. You have not addressed the previous booking errors by your colleagues, which had been equally disappointing to anyone in such situation. Having many five star reviews does not dismiss the experience of those who had such a bad experience from your school, which you can see from the one star comments, which I am definitely not the first one. The way how your respond to this comment equally reflects your attitude towards customer service. Doing business is not just about the driving hours; and the text message threat is equally disturbing. SIgned up with this group to take a drivers test last weekend. It is very difficult to talk with the school where they do not respond to email nor answer phone calls except what seems to be Mondays....if they pick up! I did get through after several tries and had a telephone call with a man on Monday prior to RMV road test on following Saturday where I was told I was all set to take the Driving test at 10am in Braintree. Arrived to Braintree RMV at 945am but no Boston Drivers Ed representative until 1025am where a man in a car with the name on the side raced up to the site. I went to have a conversation with him which did not go well where he told me I was not registered to take the test. Good thing I did not give any money before hand!! Safety.com driving school was on site and was running what appeared to be a well run driving test for a number of drivers. I would look into other schools....this guy is running this school by the seat of his pants. read more

I purchased 10 hours of private lessons. When I showed up for my first lesson, I waited around for 15 minutes and ended up leaving without a lesson. The instructor called me claiming there was a misunderstanding about the pickup location, so I showed up the next day on time to the new location. My instructor was late, and I ended up finishing my lesson late as well. Ater my bad experiences with the first two lessons, I decided to cancel the three other lessons I had scheduled. I tried emailing John, who had always gotten back to me quickly before, asking if I could get a refund for the lessons I did not use (since I had to pay for them all upfront). I still haven't gotten a response, after a week and two emails. My emails were very reasonable, saying that I at least expected a refund for the first lesson because I showed up and was not able to complete my lesson through no fault of my own. I would expect at least a response stating the cancellation policy, but I've gotten nothing. The lack of a response is very disappointing and unprofessional. Would not recommend for private lessons. read more
