I will divide this review into three topics . . . 1) The Food - The North End Tour hits six stops where you get food or bread along the way. All of the food was delicious. You really get full service and atmosphere with the last stop. I can say that this exceeded my expectations. 2) The Guide - Audrey knows the North End, and knows it very well. She has personal stories to share about its history. She knows the business owners. She has been at this tour thing a long time. And it shows. But the best compliment I can give Audrey is she has a personality! This is not a "memorize the bullet points about a restaurant and recite it back with people in front of you" tour. Audrey will interact, kid around, and make you fell as if you've known her for a long time. 3) The Tour - Our tour actually lasted longer than what is stated on the website. This was due to heavy rain that came out of nowhere. We had to wait in a safe spot for a few minutes while it passed over us. I would suggest knowing the weather forecast ahead of your tour date. Audrey does stop at several places where you do not get food, but she'll mention you might want to swing by after the tour because it is worth it. You are walking through the North End, so wear comfortable shoes. The tour was very informative. I would not have realized that the North End has such a colorful history. I highly recommend the Boston Foodies Tour with Audrey. This tour is excellent with many food sample stops at local family establishments with whom our tour guide personally knew (along with many other people). We enjoyed the fun facts and local knowledge that was shared and probably not known by many of the other tour guides. This tour is a nice small size tour so you get Audrey's full attention unlike other tours that we passed that were very large and I am sure not getting the "personal" touch we received. I and my wife joined a family of four from NYC for the North End Food Tour on a sunny Saturday. Audrey is a delight - gracious and friendly, with a bottomless supply of interesting stories about the families, restaurants, history of the neighborhood, and of course the FOOD. We had Sicilian-style pizza from a place that doesn't take online orders or reservations: you wait in line, and hope you get there before they run out for the day. Except, of course, we went right to the front of the line! We visited several different places, and tasted balsamic vinegars, lemon ices, espresso, the best Italian sub I've ever had (Monica's), and finished the day with amazing pasta and cannoli at Limoncello. Wow! We did a Food Tour of the North End. We were not new to the area as we had eaten at many places in the past three visits as well as several walking tours. This tour was amazing!!! We learned a lot about the food world that takes place in the North End as well as ate at many new places. The stops were all great and the food was amazing. We were not rushed and met some amazing shop owners and employees. We returned to many of the places throughout our time in Boston to sample more food. Oh, Boston Foodie Tours has a five star rating. It can't live up to the hype? Oh, yes it can. Let's start off with this. Audrey is FANTASTIC. Not only does she have the culinary expertise, she knows so much about Boston. No one except my friend and I signed up for the tour and she still agreed to host it so we would not be disappointed. There are no words to express my gratitude. We visited Scampo, Bacco, Flour Bakery, Beacon Hill Chocolates, Ostra, Fastachi, and Legend Seafood. The entire tour she gave us information and even took us off the beaten path to explore some historical landmarks. As for the food, it was all fantastic. I even returned to Bacco's within 24 hours! If you're hesitant about price. Just do it. You get two tours and a full days of meals AND takeaway goodies. Oh, also don't make dinner plans. Trust me. Signed my husband and I up for a Friday afternoon tour and headed out w Audrey and another couple. We are locals, have been to the North End 20-30 times and thought we might learn something. We learned the Foodie tour was beyond wicked awesome. Audrey (excuse the pun) eats, sleeps and drinks this tour. We slipped into the BEST seats of everyplace we stopped at, but I don't want to talk about sitting down, I want to talk about all the incredible food we ATE. We ate the best of the best of the hand picked establishments we visited. The owners gushed as Audrey greeted them. It was obvious they have a wonderful relationship w our tour guide. Yum, yum and more yum. Would I recommend this tour? Simply put, you bet your damm ass I would! There are certain foods I cannot eat, and I was resigned I wouldn't get (oh no, here comes another pun) the full flavor of the North End. Overall I'm very glad I booked this tour and definitely had an enjoyable time, but it wasn't the true "foodie" experience I was looking for. I booked a tour for myself, my boyfriend, and my parents (it was my Mom's birthday on the 19th and Father's Day on the 21, so having the tour on the 20th was a perfect combo present!). Booking online was super easy and they send a couple emails before the tour with tickets and full meeting details. The Liberty Hotel was a great meeting spot and such a cool place to start the tour. We all met, signed our contracts (weird, never had to do that on a food tour before. But I understand the liability issues so it was fine), then got a brief history of the hotel before moving downstairs to the Italian restaurant Scampo. We were seated and treated to a four course meal (plus crispy breadsticks at the table). This was the absolute highlight of the 5 hour tour. Going around the table getting to know everyone, getting a map of each stop, and then getting the absolute tastiest food. We had asparagus soup, tomato and basil salad, two slices of pizza (lobster and classic), then a surprise plate of cookies (where the whole table sang my mom happy birthday--very nice!). After eating we checked out the club Alibi and had a restroom break before continuing. I feel this set my expectations so high! The next stop was Savenor's, a little store with a great history and even better selection of meats. We sampled tiny bites of dry oat cookies with runny jam here and I had a bit of the WTF moment. BUT I was still full from Scampo and excited at the next 4 hours ahead. The next stop was just a bit further at Beacon Hill Chocolates. LOVED this shop! Very friendly employees, a full sample of the milk chocolate truffle and then half a square of the salted caramel chocolate. Then gelato samples if anyone wanted. I ended up buying some slightly overpriced but very cute dark chocolate cat truffles here and definitely perked up after the sugar rush. (they gave tour attendees a 10% discount which was very nice!) Next stop was Fastachi, an artisanal nut store. We got to sample pistachio butter and a tiny cup of mixed nuts. We then each got gift bags with a nice size pouch of mixed nuts. The chocolate here looked even better than Beacon Hill so I ended up getting even more truffles (really cool that they had vegan truffles!) As we walked down the street it was sometimes hard to hear our guide Rob or we ended up jaywalking or blocking pedestrians. We were a fairly large group (12 I think?) and Boston sidewalks seemed tiny where we were so this was a slight annoyance. Nothing major but as someone who lives and walks everywhere in DC I hate when tour groups block me from getting where I want to go. The next stop was Paramount. Where we were told all about the great breakfast foods and ordering and seating style but then all we got was a small plastic cup of orange juice. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious fresh squeezed orange juice but that was it? I felt a bit cheated. We then had a big walk through the park and a lot of talk about the history of the park and Boston. Even stopping to see the duck statues and even seeing the two Juliet swans. The park was beautiful and really a great addition to the tour! We did stop at the Taj Hotel to use the restrooms and also get some more history, but this hotel was really run down and the bathrooms were humid and very unpleasant. I don't know if the air wasn't working that day but it was not a fun stop. The flowers in the lobby were nice though! (hey, bright side!) Next up was Bacco's Wine & Cheese where we got a small sample of rose and had to fight over a meat and cheese platter. I was taking my time enjoying my wine when I looked over and saw one sad slice of salami left while other tour members had multiple toothpicks and samples in their hand. Don't people know the Yelp golden rule about waiting for everyone to have a taste before going for seconds? The macaroons were delicious here though and totally worth the hype Rob was giving them. Next up was Flour bakery and cafe. I think by the time we got here the group lost their steam and everyone just wanted to sit in silence. Very weird. Maybe instead of wine we should have all done a shot of espresso? Either was we were treated to delicious chicken, avocado, jicama sandwiches! Generous halves were given to each attendee and it was definitely my 2nd favorite stop after Scampo! The last stop was Legal Seafoods and it was a bit of a walk. We were seated and then given the choice of clam chowder or bang bang cauliflower. I opted for the cauliflower while my boyfriend got the chowder. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy either so this was a sad way to end. Luckily Rob revealed we each got our own sticky bun from Flour to take home! Definitely saved the day and ended on a high note! She also gave insightful information on which places where good and why. This was all in addition to the seven locations where we had a sample of the food. The food tour craze is REAL and if we didn't live clear across the country, we would be Audrey's best customers. We visited on a Thursday and had a really great time. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring a jacket as you are outside some of the time. There were three couples and Audrey, which made for an intimate group, without being too large or too small. We had so much diversity in our food choices, ranging from quaint cheese shops, to public markets, to "hidden" gems in back alleys, to large busy bakeries; all were made to feel welcoming because of the special relationship Audrey has with each owner/place. It is clear that Audrey loves what she does and has a vast knowledge about food, but the part we loved the most was the passion she had for showcasing the people and the area. This is clearly more than just a job for her. She is superior to other hired guides. This is truly where she grew up and what she loves. In her words, "These are my people!" Audrey was also kind and funny and when it was time to go, we wished we had longer. People compare food tours to a dinner out, but we would argue that this is far more of a shared experience where multiple layers come together to create a memory you will revisit again and again. It's hard to put a price on that. The best Foodie Tour we have ever been on. So much history about the area and FABULOUS food. Audrey (the founder and owner) was our tour guide. Her love of Boston and passion for food shine through as she shares stories and interacts with vendors and staff at various stops. After we met our tour started at the Boston Public Market where Audrey explained the food sold at the weekend outdoor market comes from the food warehouses that supply grocery stores. The food is what has not been sold to groceries and is now brought to the market at ridiculously low prices. $2 for blue berries or strawberries, 5 cloves of garlic for $1 or cactus pears 2 for $1. We then went inside where we sampled apple cider doughnuts from Red Apple Farm. We moved on to Taza Chocolate, Corner Stalk Farm, Botanical Springs and Q's Nuts where we sampled chocolate, Spikers Shrubs, flavored maple syrup and extraordinary roasted nuts. We then had the best Lobster Roll I ever had from Red's Best (went back there for a 2nd roll for dinner). Then we headed to The Union Oyster House for their famous clam chowder which did not disappoint. Stuffed at that point we went to Little Italy where we had a piece of sub from Monica's Mercato. Then to the hidden treasures of the tour Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shop where we sampled fresh mozzarella and nextdoor to Bricco Panetteria where we sampled Ciabatta with Proscuitto & Parmesan both made me wish I lived here to be able to buy weekly. The final stop was to Modern Bakery where they were kind enough to have our cannolis boxed us to go. Yummy with a cup of coffee at the end of the day. Well worth the price of the tour.
