We did the food and art tour last Tuesday night.. the food was delicious, the tour guide Sophie was friendly and knowledgeable, and seeing the graffiti art was really fun and we enjoyed hearing more about the artists. I would recommend this tour! We were outdoors for about half of the tour, so dress warm if it's cold out! The tour is 2 hours, with the option to order more at the last stop and stay as long as you like.

My family and I had the best donut tour in Cambridge. Shout out to Larom who gave us a great tour of the donut shops and gave us tips in general for where to eat and explore plus some great history of the area. Highly recommended.

Before I say anything else, let me say: do this!!!!!!!! Now, to go into more detail, I found Off The Beaten Path in my searches before a recent trip to Boston. I had left it open in my phone's browser but didn't make any moves. Fast forward a couple weeks to actually being in Boston for looking for something to do. There was an event (Boston Women's Market) I wanted to go to in Jamaica Plain, and I saw it mentioned OTBP had a food tour in Jamaica Plain that day! Perfect! I booked my ticket and got emails with all of the details I needed. I trekked to JP from where I was staying, and we started just a ten minute walk or so from the train. I don't want to reveal all of the stops on the tour, but we did meet at any easy starting spot. I checked in with our tour guide, Ellie. She ended up being a great resource and was so much fun to learn about and from on our tour. We made five stops on this tour, and I can tell you I never would have been to these five places if it weren't for this tour... But I'm so glad I got to go them!!!!!!! Each was unique, and each was delicious. We had PLENTY of food, but not to the point where I ate so much I felt sick or anything like that. I even tried a food I had never had even heard of!! It was just all so good! We got to see a bit of the neighborhood in walking, though we didn't walk too much. Also, the other people on my tour were AWESOME. As I was doing this alone and from out of town, they were all so kind and fun! I loved learning about them and talking to them. I truly loved the JP tour and would so happily do one of their other tours! This is something great to do with friends or alone (like me). I got to meet great people, explore a neighborhood (unfamiliar to me), and eat delicious foods!!! I highly recommend this!!!!!!!!!

I have done two different tours with Off the Beaten Path and they've both been uniquely fun and wonderful! I did the Central Square Food and Mural Arts tour a few weeks back. The Guide, Sophie, was knowledgable, personable, and clearly passionate about food! We stopped in at a variety of establishments and I learned so much about the food scene in my own backyard! It was also very cool to notice and learn about the murals around Central which I'd never paid much attention to previously. Last weekend, I did their Harvard Square Chocolate tour and again learned a LOT! About Chocolate, fun facts about Harvard Square and Harvard businesses I didn't know anything about previously. Would highly recommend to locals and out-of-towners both!

Mobsters and Lobsters is a mafia story laden trip that ends up at the south shore popular lobster eatery. Although Mother Nature and the traffic in downtown Boston decided yo play games with us the owner who's name actually is Tom Collins, started off with a quick quip yo get the folks settled and the first round of beverages were begun. Tom brings us around to the spectacular locations and spots where specific mobsters from the years past were doing their cunning and not so cunning work. Tom's knowledge for this thoroughly interesting topic is unmatched. His serious knowledge of the history of other significant historical places and events speckled with his dry "Bastan" humor. Made this trip extremely worthwhile. The duration was four hours long which also included a Lobster dinner at a local eatery on the south Boston harbor. I haven't laughed this hard in a long while. If you are in beantown for a spell. I highly recommend you and you motley crew join Tom for an interesting alcohol added trip back in time. I am positive your jaws and cheeks will be sore from laughing so hard. Be aware this is an "R" rated trip! But very worth it. Thanks Tom for making this a great memorable evening.

They even throw in some Pirate stories as well like Sam Bellamy & The Widdah. The crew is all dressed in Pirate attire so you really get the whole Pirate experience. We had Captain Mckinnon & Captain Mead. Both Kids & Adults will like this nautical adventure in the 7 Seas. They even let the kids help hoist the sails. This is Great to put on a future resume - Yup I helped sail a Pirate Ship. LOL! It gets chilly on the seas so bring an extra jacket. They also have Free Blankets they pass out if you're cold. You'll pass by The TD Garden, The Zakim Bridge, The Old North Church, The Seaport Area, Legal Seafood, The Rebook Headquarters, Logan Airport, The Charleston Navy Yard, The USS Constitution & many other sites. You'll definitely get heads a turning cruising in the Pirate Ship by other boaters along the route who will give you a wave. There is a rest room below the deck. To enter the tea room, you have to go through the gift shop and exit the door on the left to walk down the ramp to Abigail's Tea room. Once you arrive you can go to the counter to order a meal (salads, sandwiches), or snacks like cookies, brownies or scones. There is an option to taste 5 different types of teas that were aboard the ships (and were eventually dumped into the water). You can opt for a cup ($5), Souvenir mug for $10.95, or a tea platter ($20) which includes a pot of tea and two scones and it says it serves up to 4 people. I opted for the $5 cup since it's unlimited refills. The tea shop has a big dining area with a view of the ships and the wharf. The 5 tea offerings included: *Young Hyson - "Early spring green tea typically picked before the end of April" *Singlo - " Chinese green tea varieties picked later in the season than early spring Hyson" *Bohea - "Black tea from one of the oldest and most famous tea growing areas of china, the Wuyi Mountains." *Congou - "a black tea, refers to a tea made with the highest mastery or artful skill to produce thin, light strips without breaking the leaves" *Souchong - "a classic black tea from the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian province in China with a very distinctive smoky aroma" I thought most of the teas were good, my favorite being the Congou, but the Souchong was not my favorite due to the smoky flavor. The gift shop was fun and full of neat souvenirs like teas, teapots, general Boston kitschy items, and things for the 250th anniversary of America. Well worth the visit if you are in the area!

Now this tour may not be for everyone, as the title of the tour alludes to.. but if you don't mind the random swear word and aren't easily offended, you'll be like me... cracking up for 3 hours straight. And there was one thing I noticed about Anthony that he doesn't advertise, and may try to track me down for saying on here.... But beneath the gruff exterior was the sweetest guy that seemed genuinely interested in sharing his culture, stories, and amazing food with everyone! We started off at a pizza joint where we got a slice of pizza and an arancini ball. I expected the pizza to be good... and it was fantastic. But I am not a huge fan of arancini and this one had peas in it... also something I am not a huge fan.... But hey, I was on a food tour so I was going to try everything! Thank goodness I did, because this arancini was the stuff of dreams. How in the world could something be THAT much better than what high end Italian restaurants advertise? The last time I had an arancini ball was at a restaurant in Hawaii that won "best Italian food in Hawaii".... And it was only so-so. This arancini ball would make me fly 5,000 just to eat it again! Next up was a deli sub, a coffee shop, ravioli, a pastry shop and lastly an affogato (or gelato if you didn't want coffee that late in the day). Based on the food I received, before factoring in all the stories that Anthony shared, I feel the tour was really underpriced. I wish I hadn't done this the tour on my last day, I would have gone back for another round of everything we tried, as well as everything that was recommended. Heck I may have signed up for the tour again just to experience it all over again!

Our guide, Jake, met us a bit early in the appointed spot. He handed us the ghost plushies we bought (a nice souvenir) and the EMF meters we rented, and since there were only four of us on the tour, he began early. I didn't find him very engaging and felt he was going for "jump scares" when telling the stories. Since it was evening, we could only stop outside or across the street from places we visited (except for the Boston Common, where we met). I did like the three extra stories on the extended tour. I recommend not renting the EMF meters, as we weren't really encouraged to use them. It seems Jake forgot about them as soon as he gave them to us. I turned them on a few times, but didn't get much of a result. It is a fairly short tour; we began around 7:45 and were done by 9:15. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing quite a bit of walking, including up a hill (that Jake joked was the scariest part of the tour). Whether or not you take the extended tour, you end up in a different location, so be mindful of that. It's not a must-do, but if it works with your schedule, it's a nice way to spend an evening.

I was simply told that I could reach out again after the tour if I still needed assistance -- which defeats the entire purpose of contacting them proactively. For a company that works with families and students on expensive international travel experiences, I expected a much higher level of customer care.
