The minute you step foot, you can feel it running through your body, and you can honestly tell it is a safe place. After doing some exploring in Nyack, something told us to make a left and walk down the road, which is where we found The Open Spirit. We had the pleasure of meeting Jackie, who had such a warm and fun spirit! She greeted us with open arms, engaged in a conversation, and go to know who we were. We've been back numerous times since, and every time Jackie remembers who we are. In fact, the second time we ever went back, was to check out Nyack's street fair. We went to visit Jackie's booth and the minute we stepped foot she told everyone inside that we were the guys from NYC she couldn't stop talking about. It was such a humbling and grateful experience. Every time we visit the shop we meet someone new. We were there about 2 weekends ago, and we met Lisa. Again, another great soul to come across! There are so many wonderful things in this shop that speaks to you. I have purchased a handful of items that are now placed throughout my home. Walking by them I can feel the positive and loving energy from The Open Spirit.

Here the thing- she has $15 amethyst, 20s, 40s and up and she was never pushy for me to get a pricier piece. At $45 for my amethyst, I was ready to display it in my new home. Nyack, NY - came across these guys at a local fair this weekend and had no idea they have a…read morestorefront in Nyack. There's still a gem shop and some reiki/sound healing/meditation spaces in Nyack but there hasn't been a magickal shoppe that I remember since the days of yore (holler at ya, Spellbound!). Nyack is the most artsy town in Rockland County with the best restaurants and most interesting boutique shops, and I am happy to see its vibrancy becoming restored with many recent noteworthy openings, and with a growing spiritual community in the area. The products displayed at the fair were gorgeous and unique - jewelry, clothing/accessories, tarot and oracle cards, and the requisite candles, oils and scents. (I wish I'd remembered to take some photos but I was too busy browsing!) I especially loved the handmade spirit wands which are beautifully crafted and filled with intentionality, as the lovely lady who made them explained. I was glad to learn they have a physical store (which also hosts events, readings, and live music) and can't wait to visit it soon!

My dad was from a Jewish family, my mother is not, but the people at this store have been open and understanding of my personal journey as someone hoping to end up a Noahide if I can't fully bring all of the commandments into my life. What really blew the top off of my head was when I brought my 4-year-old daughter in on a Thursday afternoon (it was also Yom HaShoah, I only realized later). Everyone was very kind to me (me, the guy in a hoodie, jeans, and a hockey ball cap) and his preschool aged daughter in a skort and shirt, no leggings because she is having an issue with the way they feel right now. There was an air of friendliness in the store, even though I briefly felt that I had walked into something different from what I had experienced before. Rather than judgement or negativity, I found openness and flexibility. Along with an Artscroll transliteration , I ended up coming home with a kosher board game for my daughter, inspired by both the elders with their big beards and the young, as-awkward-as-I-am older yeshivah students. It's awkward walking into any sort of "ethnic" store, but this one continues to be a good experience.
