Reporting to me that the hairdresser had slapped her hand when she asked about her hair falling out of place in the front. My other bridesmaid who was in the chair for less then 5 minutes to have a bow clip placed in her hair and charged $30. They were left with limp curls and messy plaits which did not hold for the day, falling out before we even left for the wedding ceramony. After frequenting the salon previously for similar services and always being happy with the result I was tremendously disgruntled on my wedding day. I would not be recommending Zurri Ellerslie salons services to anyone. I was very upset at how the morning was handled in the salon.

Alan's Barber Shop is just off the main drag in Onehunga and is adorned with the stereotypical red white and blue stripes so it really feels like a barber's shop. The large glass window that doubles as a front door gives a plain view into the shop where you will find the owner Sahir and his apprentice working away at a queue of customers waiting patiently for a clip. Without fail I'm told you will be greeted with a friendly "Hey man, howsit?" from Sahir as you walk through the door before sitting down on the couch and relaxing to the 1960 /1970's music that is playing. When you finally get your turn (apparently the only downside is the typical 15/20min wait as they have so many customers) you start to understand why they always have a bit of a queue - the barbers really take their time cutting a customers hair and make sure they understand what they are looking for. They really seem to do all the little things well. My partner always goes on about what a perfectionist Sahir is, how tidy his cuts are and how you would be hard-pressed to find a better job for the very reasonable $20 charge. And now I finally understand why it takes him so long to get his hair cut!

So far so good. The appintment went well too, Tadeus gives an excellent consultation and cuts hair beautifully, with real care and precision. Great. Then for the highlights... Everything was fine until he handed me over to another hairdresser (why oh why?) who over-cooked the foils and then didn't manage to contain the panic in his voice. Instead of just doing it, they came up with a plan to try and get my hair back to better condition, before putting anything in it. Every time I have been to a hairdresser they have just gone ahead and damaged my hair. They even suggested I use a certain product that would help (normally hairdressers try and sell you everything) but they only tried to guide me on product which has made an amazing difference to my hair. I am very happy with them and can finally say I have found a great hairdresser which I will be going to for a very long time. :)

My favourite hairdressers in Auckland!…read more As someone with curly hair it can be really hard to find a hairdresser that understands how to cut curls and what really works when it comes to de-frizzing and hydrating your hair. The stylists at Exile have never let me down on this front. Nor have they let me down when it comes to a full head of highlights - the stylists are experienced and know exactly what they're doing. They are also incredibly friendly, with most of them being quite young. Their age means they are the perfect hairdressers for young adults - they know what is fashionable, how to rock certain colours and styles and that saving money is important where possible! Amber and Sarah are my two heroes when it comes to my hair! Always full of advice and banter, we talk about everything from hair to fashion, travel to music. I highly recommend both of these lovely ladies, especially if you have curly hair! Tip: If you're a student and go during the week, student prices are available and mean a good haircut and colour can be yours!
