Where do I even start. I selected oral sedation for my gum graft surgery and was billed as such…read moreprior to my appointment. However, I was never prescribed a sedative in the group of 3 other medications they prescribed for me to pick up, so I assumed I would be given it on the day of my surgery. Nope. When I showed up they immediately took me back and I started panicking and asked where the sedative would be, and they tried to turn it on me and say I never picked it up (later they admitted to having never prescribed it). They still wanted to go ahead with the surgery with NO SEDATIVE and NO PAINKILLERS. At this point I was ready to cancel my surgery on the spot and run, but the doctor offered to make up for it with an IV sedative, *free of charge*. After the surgery I had nightmares for weeks due to how pushy they were to operate on me regardless of not having the proper sedative set up. They also got blood all over my shirt. I had already pre-paid my insurance estimate ahead of time, and just received a bill in the mail stating I owed another several hundred dollars. Upon closer inspection I realized they did end up charging me over $600 extra for the IV sedation that I had been told would be free of charge. The graft itself actually caused worse recession of my gums as it was placed too low and started pulling down my gumline. I went to another periodontist after for a second opinion and they said that not only had the surgery been completely unnecessary, but it was done via a decades out of date technique. They recommended I get treatment immediately for the recession caused by the IPANW surgeon. Lastly, I'd like to give an honorary mention to the receptionists at IPANW who are some of the most miserable, egotistical women I've met in my life. Coming into the office or giving them a call was always an awful experience and they did everything they could to make it as unwelcoming as possible. In the beginning when they'd forgotten to prescribe the oral sedative, they even hung up on me mid-call because they refused to accept that it had been their issue. Later their billing department performed an investigation and found that it had indeed been their fault. I highly, HIGHLY recommend avoiding this place and looking somewhere else. They've caused me so much pain, misery, and financial stress for an operation I hadn't even needed.

The Doctor is a good listener, and made sure that all of my concerns and issues were addressed before the surgery. I had her do 2 dental implants for me. I am very pleased with the results ! The process was smooth, and most professional. For the first implant I elected to be awake during the surgery. Everything went nicely. The Doctor, and her Assistant, Shauna were efficient and very thorough. (Shauna was so nice, too !) During the procedure they provided me with details on where in the process we were. There was no pain during the procedure. The pain after surgery was just for about one day. It is now over a year later, and I am most pleased with the surgery; the implanted post; and the top tooth. I had a second implant recently. For this tooth I chose to be sedated during the process. The implant went smoothly, and the results are great ! In a few months I will have a follow-up exam with the Doctor, and the schedule the top tooth. I don't remember much from the surgery, but observe that I have a great implant now ! The "support staff" in the office are excellent. The Front Desk staff person was detailed and helpful. The clinical staff were professional, and kind. Throughout the process, there was good attention paid to my comfort; and the overall focus on a "good outcome". Dr. Nagatomo is very experienced and well educated in this profession. Everyone dealt with in this office was top notch. The receptionist was very personable and had incredible positive energy at 8am. I felt welcome right away. I met with Dr Tarletons assistant and was led to a very clean room for the procedure. The Doctor and his assistant were very efficient AND proficient. As sucky as getting your mouth carved up is, these people made me feel like they genuinely cared about me and were doing their very best to make my procedure comfortable. He got me in same day I called for my first visit (I think there was a cancellation). A few weeks later I was back for extraction and implant. Right after the implant I went to my regular dentist to get my flipper fitted, but my dentist ran out of time and gave me an ill fitting retainer. I called Dr. B's office in a panic, and he saw me same day and fixed the fit. So grateful for that and not having to go with a missing front tooth! Office experience: I…read morehave been a long-time patient of Dr. Berry and have always had positive experiences with him and all the dental hygienists who work in his office. They have consistently been professional, friendly, and respectful, and I have never had any issues -- until recently. Last July, I received a call from a staff member named Jamie (I'm unsure of the spelling) while I was on my way to an appointment. She spoke to me in a loud and condescending tone, accusing me of being late multiple times. I was surprised by this, as it seemed unusual for a dental office to keep such a record, but I chose not to let her rudeness affect me and went ahead to my appointment and booked my next appointment. Today, I had an appointment scheduled for 4:00 p.m. I live about 11 minutes away and left my home at 3:45 p.m. While driving on Bothell-Everett Highway in heavy rain, traffic slowed significantly. As I reached the light to turn into the office complex,around 4:06 p.m. I received another call from Jamie. She again spoke in a harsh and disrespectful tone, informing me that my appointment was canceled because I had supposedly been late to nine previous appointments. I explained that I was just on the traffic light turning into the building, but she continued to speak to me in a very dismissive and rude manner, and cancelled my appointment. As a paying patient, I found her behavior completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I felt disrespected and spoken to in a way no patient should experience. It is especially disappointing because I have always appreciated Dr. Berry's care and the professionalism of his staff. Unfortunately, my interactions with Jamie have been the complete opposite, and I can't help but feel that I was treated differently, possibly because I am African and speak with an accent. I'm so happy to have been referred to Dr. Mao after I asked for a second opinion. Recently I…read morenoticed additional sensitivity, suggesting the recession might be worsening. Considering I've already shown some bone loss, this makes me nervous. My dentist said nothing about this, but I asked for perio consult. The first opinion I got offered no solutions for sensitivity, wanted to do a few grafts to protect teeth from falling out. Dr Mao, on the other hand, suggested pedicle grafts in addition to the ones first opinion offered. While the healing of this seems to mean a bit more swelling at first, it addresses the sensitivity issue, and my teeth look so much more normal! I've had issues for over a decade, always a background consideration for if/when things get worse, and that was becoming more present with choosing foods based on sensitivity. If the pedicle grafts restore coverage so I'm less afraid to look in my own mouth, background worrying about worsening, that is awesome, I had never heard this option before. And I love that I don't have to worry about the cold of eating carrots! All of the office staff is friendly and effective. I emailed about a question and got a call back the same day; they even put Dr. Mao on the phone to answer my questions. I was pretty nervous about the procedure and I got the text from my pharmacy about the Valium prescription I requested almost immediately after getting off the phone. I've just had my second procedure with Dr. Mao. He's great about making sure questions are answered, and it says something that he puts his cell number on the care sheet. He gave me a call around 8pm the evening of the procedure just to check in. I feel very cared for and trust his opinions and his work. He takes pictures before and through the healing process at follow ups. I haven't asked to see these yet, but I think it will be fascinating to do so down the road. I had to go out of network from my insurance to see him, but I'm so much more confident in his care, I think the extra cost is worth it.
