Visitng Asheville for one night and wanted to enjoy a meal I can't get near me/don't get that often and stumbled upon Botiwalla in West Asheville after trying to go to Chai Pani (they close during the afternoon/between lunch and dinner). I was not dissapointed by the flavors and the value in the amount of food. This location is very easy to get in and out of since it has a decent amount of parking and being outside of downtown, even better. I placed a pick up order online easily and it was ready when I showed up to the restaurant. The dining space seemed cozy but enough for plenty of parties to sit down and enjoy a meal. Everyone was friendly and attentative when I entered/asked for my order. I ordered the Rice Bowl - Malai Chicken with a side of Naan. Not knowing what to order, I figured this was a safe bet. It was full of flavors but not too spicy. I had leftovers for another meal that's how big the portion was. read more

One of my favorite places to eat. I love Botiwalla by Chai Pani. Everything is always tasty, delicious, and packed with flavor. I've eaten at all the Botiwalla's in North Carolina, both in Asheville and one in Charlotte... and I love them all. The staff is always very friendly and the locations are always very convenient, such as, the one inside a Food Hall in Charlotte or the one in Downtown Asheville, which was the original Chai Pani... great vibes and cool spots for sure. After going to Chai Pani many times, we were excited to check out the Botiwalla West Asheville location for an early Sunday dinner with friends. It's more casual and counter service, but the food came out super fast! Like as soon as we had sat down, we were already getting some of our orders. I have noted in several Asheville restaurants, spicy isn't really spicy. Well the smashed potato sauce was spicy! It was a great dish, but I loved the other two dishes. The aloo had amazing flavor, especially with the ginger sauce. The paneer wrap is a very welcome vegetarian dish. The paneer is smokey and filling, and although very messy, it is a hearty satisfying meal. I would definitely order that again! I look forward to coming back and checking out more of their vegetarian offerings! But I'll be ordering the aloo and paneer wrap again! read more

Yum, yum, yum! This is an order-at-the-counter spot, but don't let that fool you! The food completely blew us away. The space is bright, colorful, and full of fun decor, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. Our order came out quickly and exactly right. I highly recommend the chicken tikki roll and the Maharaja lamb burgers. Both are packed with incredible flavor, and the bread/rolls are perfectly toasted and buttery. A fan of Chai Pani, it was fun to pop in Botiwalla while visiting Asheville from Washington, D.C. Order at the register and then find a table in one large dining room. Came on a Saturday and was able to find a seat easily and order. The menu is simple and easy to navigate. Wanted to order the paneer but they had run out so ended up ordering the chicken Tikka rice bowl. Chicken was a tiny bit spicy but I loved it. Easy to chop up with my fork. Loved the grilled tomatoes. Chai tea was delicious, just came piping hot. Love that it came with biscuits. Food came out in only a few minutes (for a 1 person lunch). Was fabulous. I love the location and super convenient to the nearby Cambria Hotel! When you walk in, you walk to the back to order. Seating appears to be first come, first serve. I ordered a panner tikka rice bowl that was phenomenal! The amount of spices and usage of herbs that I didn't think would work well in a dish worked super well! I think it was fairly priced for the amount of food that you get! Highly recommend Botiwalla. Pro tip: if you are new to Indian cuisine, a great dish to try is a chicken masala. read more

Haven't been to the West Asheville Botiwalla in awhile and had a craving for healthy Indian street food, which is what they do, and they do it well and at a very reasonable price point. If you want upscale Indian street food at a higher price point and as part of a more encompassing experience (some people call it almost like an Indian fantasy wedding location), then go to Chai Pani, which is part of the same restaurant group. But for the fast casual version of that, you really can't beat Botiwalla. The thing that makes the food here so good is the spices. The ingredients are fresh and healthy and the portions are good sized, but it is the flavor of the food that makes the food here amazing, and that comes down in large part to them knowing how to layer and balance spices and several different ingredients in such a way that you can taste individual flavors, but also get the full impact in how they all taste together. I enjoy Cava for rice or salad bowls and you can customize them there, but if you want Indian-flavor bowls, this place blows places like Cava away. On this trip we had the chicken malai salad bowl. The chicken chunks were large and tender and spiced very well. But it was the layering of the chicken with the cashews and the various greens, along with a fantastic cumin-lime vinaigrette dressing that just makes eating this bowl almost nirvana. We also had the lamb sliders. The lamb portion was a bit small even for a slider, but lamb prices have gone way up and they've kept the price here reasonable, so this is probably a case of shrinkflation. The taste was good (again largely from the spicing), as was the green chutney sauce and the desi slaw topping. We ordered a side of masala smashed finger potatoes and these were fantastic. The masala spicing itself has some kick to it but when you dip them in the spicy Maggi ketchup that comes with them, the heat level is great as is the flavor combination. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table, so it is hard to say much about the service apart from the fact that it did not take long for to get our food. The lamb burger came out a little later than the rest and ideally everything would have been synced (but this is fast casual, not fine dining, so not the end of the world). Overall, this is a great place for reasonably priced, healthy and tasty Indian street food. A good solid 4.5, rounded up to 5. read more

Got the okra fries, the vada pav, and chai. The spice is very very mild so that's the only feedback I have. Otherwise, solid quantity and reasonably priced. Lots of seating for solo, small, and large groups. They have a small corner of random Indian snacks, spices to purchase. Would definitely go back and bring some non Indian friends to this spot. I love that I get to look over the menu before sitting down. The place is so spacious and has a flow to it with how it's set up. The service is 10 out of 10. The person who took our order was really nice when I asked for recommendations. They had the most relaxed demeanor and knew the menu really well to explain flavors and spices. The Food!!! OMG, it's so beautiful presented and it has the flavor that made my forehead scrunch up in wonderment. This is place is rad. Really fun decor and vibe and our lunch was spectacular. I had the paneer tikka rice bowl. The paneer was crispy grilled and beautiful and the rice was flavorful and full of accoutrements like roast tomato, fresh onion, etc Wife had the chicken tikka salad which was a cabbage based salad and very tangy and crunchy. We also had the side of Bhel Puri puffed rice which was very unique and fun, but honestly got so stuffed we couldn't finish it all. There's a lot more on the menu I'd love to try including some very interesting drinks (boozy and otherwise) The only negative I have is that it was SO COLD I had go get another shirt to put on. Honestly, for a place modeled after Indian street food I would expect it to not be so frigid inside. Would have loved to sit outside but tables were full. We'll be back! read more

The desi salad with mala chicken has always been a fantastic choice, and I am a fan of their naan bread as well. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and spacious for the location, and parking isn't too bad despite how the lot seems small and always busy. My only critique is that I've had a few hiccups with online orders: most notably, my husband called in an order under my name one time, and when I came to pick it up after work, they said I had already come to pick it up (which wasn't true). After going through a series of texts and an order confirmation to prove I hadn't, I could hear them discussing how they possibly gave it to a Doordasher/Grubhub pick up, etc. --which happens, I'm sure. It wasn't a huge deal, but it was awkward having to defend that I definitely was there to pick up an order under my name. Maybe implementing some sort of sign-off feature, or another way to prevent confusion with app service pick-ups vs. online orders could help navigate that sort of situation better in the future. read more

This new restaurant in West Asheville is a welcome addition to the already-formidable dining line-up along Haywood Road, and stands at the site once occupied by the locally beloved BimBeriBon. I found the menu very similar to that of Chai Pani, a downtown establishment all but ruined for locals by its extraordinary success and the tourist deluge which inevitably followed. Last time I passed CP near dinner time the line stretched several blocks - I love CP and all, but sorry - ain't doin' that. My faves here are the Okra Fries (so stinkin' good with that lime drizzle) and the SPDP (5 texturally fabulous and breathtakingly flavorful bites of surpassing happiness). New for me this time was the Paneer Tikka Roll. I hesitated to try it, as paneer prepared in this way can eat a bit dry. Not so here. The farmer's cheese is marinated in yogurt, lime juice, Kashmiri chili paste, and North Indian spices, then lavished with Desi slaw, chutney and cilantro and wrapped in hot buttered naan. The aroma of open fire and pungent spice arrived at the table before the wrap itself. The smokey heat of the paneer against the luscious chutney, raita and that glorious slaw absolutely slapped. This is a fast service spinoff of the local institution which is Chai Pani. It was almost as packed; I was just at the right time to get a table. The line one has to stand in to order was long, and needlessly so. The person taking orders would stop to mix people's drinks, so not only was it one register running, that person wasn't even focused on clearing the line. My food arrived more quickly than my line moved. The menu is similar to Chai Pani: Indian with a street food slant. The okra fries I never order there were available here in a palatable size, and they were as good as you'd think, especially with the fresh lime squeeze on top. Very crisp, just the right amount of spice. The salad I remember ordering to go during the peak lockdown era is even more splendid fresh; it's one of the most delightfully multifaceted salads I've had outside of a Burmese restaurant, with finely shredded cabbage, spiced cashews, those little crispy noodles, and plenty of other things. The paneer on top is worthwhile, but given my okra I was fine without that. My drink was a lime raspberry thing; nothing special. The lime flavor was much stronger than the raspberry. I think they could improve the service, and it's also a hassle that the parking lot is small and the neighboring grocery store has angry signs promising to tow anyone who parks there and walks over, but the food is something that this country could use more of. Indian food is perfectly suited for a faster service model, and it the flavors here deliver. read more

I'm writing this review after I just ate the yummiest food from here!! I'm at a Pokémon card convention with my husband and wanted something warm and hearty for a quick lunch to-go. I placed my order online and my food was ready for pick up within 10 minutes! I ordered the Tikka Chicken Roll and got my husband the Tikka Chicken Bowl. I also accompanied the food with their hot sauce and wanted to try the mango pickle. It was all so delicious! Great portions and their chicken is so delicious and tender. The flavors all go so well together and both were very filling. Great price for your portion. If I could give it a 100/10 then I would! I've been lucky enough to visit this spot in Atlanta before. My go to is the paneer roll and I should have stuck with that or ordered the paneer salad or bowl. I love paneer but had a lot of cheese that day so I snacked on apps. The cauliflower was plentiful and with just a bit of spice. Delicious and crispy. Didn't love the sauce it went with but when I dipped it in the other yogurt sauce it was perfect. The SPDP sounded good but was not my jam. It was cold and sweet and empty. Felt like a dessert at first but was basically air. The smallest amount of potato for $8. The yogurt sauce was good but I did not love the overall texture or taste. Should have looked at a pic first. I was so excited they had wine on the menu because I don't really love slushies or beer. Despite wine being advertised all over- on menus and board and at counter- they informed me it wasn't available yet. Got a soda water and was charged $5! For a tiny app and soda water they charged $14 with tip. Next time I'll just drink water and get a Sammy. My friends liked their slushies. They did have about 4 beer options. The inside is decorated beautifully and the service is quick. Great seating and super clean. Parking is, as always in west asheville, difficult. We tried Botiwalla on Haywood for lunch today and had an excellent meal! I've been waiting for something like this in Asheville for so long! Being from Los Angeles, I miss the casual eateries with killer food at a reasonable price. Fresh, quality, flavorful food, served FAST. We love Chai Pani and have been to Botiwalla in Charlotte. The menu is different than both! While there are some crossover items: SPDP, Okra Fries, etc. They have a variety of tasty bowls and wraps. I was happy to see three solo diners grabbing a bite to eat. A place has to feel easy, friendly and casual to welcome a solo diner. I travel out of state for work a lot, so I value this greatly. Today, we ordered the 1) Masala Smashed Potatoes 2) Boti Lamb Kofta Roll 3) Chicken Tikka Bowl. I told the cashier I was between the Masala Smashed Potatoes and the SPDP. She said they were both so good. I went with the Masala Smashed Potatoes. We sat down and within minutes, the potatoes were delivered. We loved the slightly spicy ketchup with the potatoes. Then our server delivered the SPDP, which we didn't order, but they sent out for us to try anyway! I was so glad they did, because these were DIVINE. If you've ever had Pani Puris at an Indian restaurant, this is their take on it. Lovely, one bite wonders with so many brilliant flavors going on - the sweet chutney and yogurt with the onion and crunchy chickpea noodles. The Lamb Kofta Roll was perfectly seasoned with fresh flavors and very satisfying. My husband's Chicken Tikka bowl was a generous portion with well-spiced rice and delicious chicken tikka. Not your ordinary boring rice bowl. I wish I took a better picture of it because it was so tasty! At the end of the meal, we had some crispy potatoes and SPDP leftover and I told my hubby, just throw it in your bowl and eat it with the rice. He did and loved it! When you think about how much a fast food burger meal costs vs. the $11.99 an entree here, hands down - go here. Let's see, processed nasty food vs. food made from scratch with care and love locally? No brainer. The service was casual, but very warm and friendly. Everyone had smiles and stopped to chat with us. They were really interested in our feedback. The vibe, whimsical slightly kitschy decor, the atmosphere was great! Kudos to the staff for quickly cleaning tables when guests leave. It's a pet peeve of mine at most fast casuals when the staff is not noticing when guests leave and the tables has grease or crumbs on it and you unknowingly find yourself sitting at a dirty table. This is an 11/10 for me! The malai chicken roll and fingerling potatoes made me say, "This is my new craving!"
