The Roti Canai and Shanghai Chicken Dumplings were the best way to start the meal, so so flavorful and just a great blend of new flavors. The Drunken Udon was not to be missed either. JAZMIN is a Pan-Asian restaurant in downtown Asheville. The inside is decorated with bright red walls with several tables and booths scattered around. There is also outdoor seating if preferred. Our server was so sweet and attentive! She stopped by periodically to refill our waters. Plus, our food came out in a timely manner. My cousins and I got a variety of items from the menu: Roti Canai, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Jade Shrimp Dumplings, Lemon Chili Fish, Vietnamese Basil Salmon, and Drunken Udon with Chicken. My appetizer was the Roti Canai which was very solid. The coconut flavor came through a bit in the curry which was very flavorful, although a bit salty? I loved the pieces of chicken and potato in it, which paired perfectly with the roti canai. There were only two pieces, but I wish there were more. I tried a bit of the Jade Shrimp Dumplings and they were okay. Definitely a sweeter flavor for the filling? It might taste better dipped in soy sauce or more chili oil. My main entree was the Drunken Udon with Chicken. It definitely tasted like drunken noodles; the sauce was coated well on the udon. However, I felt like it was too saucy at times which also meant it tasted a bit salty at times too. I did like how tender the chicken was. My cousins enjoyed their seafood entrees. Overall, I would give JAZMIN a 3.75/5 stars if I could. While the service was fantastic, I thought that the food I had was alright. A bit too flavorful at times in terms of the saltiness. Good Asian food and nice location. I think I came at the wrong time, 11:30am for lunch. The staff were busy prepping for the day ahead and seemed to not be ready for customers that day. Staff were kind and the food was delicious but the service was slow. I was only one of two customers. I think if I came at a busy time it would be not as slow. This is our second time coming here. They have a nice little patio with nice music playing in the background. The service is good and they are attentive. She checked in often. We ordered the chicken wonton soup, Shanghai chicken dumplings, beef siu mai dumplings, and the Thai basil beef. Two of us shared everything and it was more than enough. The wonton soup is really good. The broth is really flavorful and so are the wontons. I also love the mushrooms in it. We also loved the chicken Shanghai dumplings. Very flavorful and they have a nice spice to them. The Thai basil beef was also good. There is a lot of beef, but also a good amount and mix of vegetables which I love. It has zucchini, onions, carrots, and cauliflower. The beef siu mai dumplings were ok, but they weren't as flavorful as the other things we ordered. Overall, I recommend checking it out. The staff were very nice and friendly, however, the service was so slow and it took an hour to get the drunken udon noodles. We got an appetizer and that took around 30 minutes to receive. Hmm. A pretty typical downtown Asheville tourist restaurant. Not bad, not authentic, about 30% over priced with a thin-concept adult contemporary vibe. The staff was abundant and friendly but that didn't prevent some confusion in the kitchen from forgetting a dish in our order. Took a bit to get that noticed and fixed. The pan-Asian dishes tastes like a slightly upscale version of each dish is supposed to taste. They are designed to pop with flavor, sugar and color in that sort of corporate Vegas hotel kinda strategy. I really liked the corn fritters. The curry with the roti cani was spot on but the bread itself lacked layers. The soups were quite good with the wonton being a more Vietnamese style with strong ginger notes. The string beans had a typical sweet brown sauce. A bit too sweet. The sweet and sour pork was a refined old school mashup with minimal breading and ketchup vinegar sauce. But oddly uneven in the sizes of the ingredients which to me is a sign of inauthenticity. I understand the place in the world for this sort of spot. It is a crowd pleaser where your in-laws or meet up with a group but I admit it does rub me the wrong way when they don't dare to have chopsticks at the table. read more

After hearing that others had enjoyed eating at Jazmin, we decided to give it a try. The dining room was nicely decorated and the seating was comfortable. Our server was friendly and did a good job keeping our water glasses full. We were very happy that she let us know that the bottled water cost $9. We were very satisfied with our tap water. We were trying to be health conscious and there were several items on the menu which would allow that. I ordered the Wok-Tossed Asian Greens and added an order of tofu to go with it and my husband had Vegetables In Thai Green Curry. Both dishes had great flavors, but I was about a third of the way through my dish before the steamed tofu was served. I would have liked it served at the same time so it could have soaked up some of the flavor from the vegetables. Also, while some of the cubes of tofu were room temperature, many were downright cold. This is why I only gave 3 stars. I'll continue my search for great Asian food in Asheville. read more

We ordered an appetizer of spring rolls which were served nice and hot. They had a nice crisp to them. The inside was a nice combo of tables set up to serve 2 and up to a party of about 6. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Two of us had the miso shrimp which was served with plenty of veggies. One got Kung Pao chicken which was a hit. The last person in our party got the chicken karpow, which was ground chicken and green beans. It had good flavor but they wished the green beans were bigger. Jazmin is a new pan-Asian restaurant at the site of the former Mayfel's across from Pritchard Park in the heart of downtown Asheville. The site has been remodeled into a cozy space that evokes a restaurant in Thailand or Indonesia without looking like a theme park. Both indoor and (heated) front patio seating. Inside it's noisy, but in a good way that allows you to have lively conversation with a group and not feel like you're making too much noise. The service is top-notch. Considering this is still the soft opening period, the wait staff worked together seamlessly and coordinated very well with the kitchen staff so that the timing of cocktails, appetizers and entrees was perfect. Even though the place was packed on a Saturday nigh and there was a wait, we did not feel rushed at all. We started with cocktails and appetizers. The standout cocktail was the passionfruit citrus spritzer. The Singapore Sling was also good. The Westbrook White Thai beer paired especially well with the food. For appetizers we had: (special) mushroom dumplings (savory delight in every bite!), pork potstickers (good, with good dipping sauces) and the star -- crispy honey, chili potatoes (perfect combination of sweet and spicy, basically Thai french fries). For entrees we had: chicken phad Thai (very good), Thai basil beef (the beef was wonderful, amplified by the peppery Thai basil that contrasted well with a sweet chili paste), chicken krapow (the chilis in this dish gave it a great flavor profile, but only eat them directly if you like a lot of heat. Note: one member of our group found this dish a bit too salty, although I didn't notice that at all), and shrimp mee sapam with Phuket "hawker style" noodles (the shrimp was fantastic, tender and not chewy at all, the sauce was nice and the noodles themselves were probably the second best Asian style noodles I've ever had). Overall this place is a great addition to Asheville's Asian food scene. It's a little pricier than other Asian restaurants in town, but the food quality, presentation and service are all a cut above, so the higher price point is worth it. We'll be back to try more offerings from this large and varied pan-Asian menu. read more

We had a great experience at Jazmin! First thing first, make a reservation! The inside is a bit small so there is limited seating. They do have a pretty spacious outdoor area though. We were in Asheville for our wedding anniversary. When I booked the reservation, I added that to it. We were greeted by a very friend host (owner or manager?) who was elated that it was our anniversary. He asked how many years and thanked us for choosing to spend it at Jazmin. He told us to pick whatever open table we wanted. The restaurant was pretty busy as our visit went on but our server, Jessica, was attentive and available for us. The entire staff appeared to enjoy being there. The cocktails were delicious. I ordered the Lychee Blossom and my husband had the Blush Geisha. We had the vegetable spring rolls and pork potstickers to start. The spring rolls were perfect; they came out warm and crispy. The insides had a nice flavor and the dipping sauce had a little kick and tasted great with the rolls. The potstickers were fine in my opinion. My husband loved them though! They had a nice crisp from the pan but the rest was a little doughy to me. My husband got the KungPao chicken and I did the chicken Phad Thai. The Kung Pao chicken had a great spice level. The Phad Thai was pretty good. It was a little too much sauce for me but the sauce tasted great. We weren't going to have dessert but the manager sent us over a mango tapioca dessert to celebrate. We ordered cocktails, beer, and wine--all very good. The menu is Asian fusion; it is not attempting to be "authentic." A specialty is different types of dumplings. Two of us shared shrimp dumplings and Shanghai chicken dumplings. These were excellent. There is a good seafood selection and I had the very nice lemon chili sea bass as my main course. The restaurant is handsome and the food is beautifully presented. My only small complaint--and this is not the restaurant's fault--is there is a somewhat noisy "drum circle" close by on Friday nights when the weather is good. The plating, portions, and quality looked completely different smaller, sloppier, and nowhere near what was advertised. The food itself was bland and absolutely not worth the price. If this is considered "authentic," I must be missing something because it tasted generic and uninspired. Service didn't help. Most of the staff looked irritated and worn out, like they hated being there. It created an uncomfortable, rushed vibe the entire time. And honestly, after eating here, I don't understand how so many glowing reviews exist. A lot of them read nothing like the experience I had they feel completely disconnected from reality. Very popular new place. Only opened about a month ago and owners are working the front and helping out where needed. Service was a touch slow but food and drinks were absolutely a 5/5. First off I want to say, finally a place that doesn't charge the same price for mocktails as they do for alcoholic drinks. Second, I got the seabass and it was the most tender and delicious fish I've had in a long while. Comes with two rather larger sized filets with bok choy and some lemon. My only criticism is I felt a bit penny pinched on the rice. The dishes come with a tiny half filled bowl of rice and when I asked for a little more to finish my entree I didn't realize it was an extra charge.
