Bottle and Barlow is located on R Street and open 7 days a week! My husband used to get his hair cut at Bottle and Barlow, but this was my first time visiting the bar next door! It was decked to the halls with Holiday decor and they even had a Santa photo op with professional photos being taken! The bar was very packed since it was around 9:30pm on Saturday night so I mostly just stood around and chatted with friends. I did not order a drink, but my friend's said theirs were good! Music was good, bathrooms were mostly clean and there were a few long tables for sitting. Bartenders were friendly from what I witnessed as well as other staff! I always enjoy stopping by Bottles & Barlow during the holidays. Their Gremlin-themed Christmas decor is one of my absolute favorites. This year, it did feel a little less decorated than in years past, and one side of the bar looked like it might've been without power. Maybe it was just a weird timing thing, who knows. Either way, I still had a good time. We lucked out and snagged seats at the bar pretty quickly. Got to order our drinks without much of a wait, which is always a win. I got a drink I think was called the Pink Christmas.... it was pretty good, I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. The bartender was great! funny, helpful, and had good energy. This is a really cool chill bar to spend time at either by yourself or with some friends. The times that I've been here it's a laid back environment even on the busier nights. There's indoor seating, bar seating, and outdoor seating. The bartenders are friendly and cool, the drinks are good and I like the cider options here. This isn't the place you'll be dancing to the music at but you could definitely chit chat with the regulars or bartenders. Came recently and sat inside with my friend enjoying a drink after dinner while baseball played on the tv. It was relaxing and a great place for a lowkey hang out. The bar is really cute and has a nice ambience especially during the holidays. Drinks aren't too bad too! However, there was bloodied toilet paper found in the restroom during my visit. Came to Bottle & Barlow for the first time just after 4pm on Wed. Jan. 3rd after attempting to go on the Fri. before Christmas and finding that the line outside was super long. It was a happy surprise that the amazing holiday Gremlin decorations were still up to be enjoyed! We sat at the bar top and learned a few fun facts about the bar while we were there. The holiday decorations are all put up and taken down each year by just one person who works at the barbershop - bravo!! The bar allows dogs inside and outside in the patio area and even has water bowls and dog bacon treats for the furry friends. Lastly, Bottle & Barlow curates drinks on a seasonal rotating basis which really demonstrates their passion for mixology. These seasonal drinks are in addition to their regular menu drinks such as one of their most popular, Strawberry Thotcake - which is absolutely delicious! We spent a couple hours at the bar and tried their seasonal sangria which was also on their happy hour menu and was just ok, but since it was discounted due to happy hour I didn't mind. We also tried their espresso martini which was really strong, and another seasonal cocktail with mezcal that was a spin on a Mexican hot chocolate which was also pretty strong and of course very smoky in flavor. Overall the drinks were good, the service was great, and the environment was the best. Great music too - the bartender had chosen Kid Cudi that day. I'll definitely be back! read more

Cool lowkey bar! Came during Halloween weekend and the decorations were so cute! The music was great and they had The Office playing on the big screen TV lol. Just a cool vibe and not too rowdy. It was the last weekend for some spooky drinks so we took advantage. The Apple jack o lantern was a little sweet and tasted how it sounds. It was great! I also had the pumpkin spice painkiller and it tasted like a piña colada with pumpkin spice, my favorite drink for sure! The pink starburst shots were also very delicious and sweet. Went in for New Years...it wasn't extremely busy. I went last year and the drinks were good. We went this year and it was horrible. My husband orders us some vodka sodas and the guy literally served us a shot of vodka with tap water. We asked for a new one and he said "uh, we ran out of club soda" and didn't offer an exchange for the drink or a refund! We stopped in Bottle & Barlow after first visiting Snug and Vito's down the street- quick walk on a cool evening! There was only one bartender staffing the bar, but she always made a point to greet every group that entered, and acknowledged them. There was a larger group ahead of us, and the bartender Elise was super apologetic for the wait, even though it didn't bother us at all. I ended up getting the "Big ass Johnny cash" - which included guava, lime, grapefruit, and rosemary. It was super refreshing and a perfect summer drink, also not too sweet. I noticed on the menu that our bartender Elise was actually the one that created this recipe- thought it was so nice that they listed the names of the bartenders that created each drink. Bottle and Barlow used to be a great bar and barbershop. The new ownership pretty much closed down the barbershop and ruined the bar. Last visit we came around 5:00 but they weren't opened until 5:30, even though hours say they open at 4. The cocktails that were made for us weren't good and the vibes were weird. The bartender was taking shots as he was making our drinks. We asked for a menu since normally they have menus. The bartender told us they had no menus but he could "make anything." I've been here twice now. Each time I went on a weeknight and it was pretty empty, which isn't exactly a bad thing if you're coming here to talk with someone. Note that they play loud rock/screamo music though. I've had the strawberry mojito and cosmo. Both were tasty and refreshing. They have a cooler of water you can help yourself to. They don't have food, but the bartender said they're fine with you bringing your own food from somewhere nearby. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The decor inside is very cute! Highly don't recommend getting a haircut here (got my haircut three times here to see if it got any better). Latest appointment was automatically rescheduled to someone else the morning of, and the new Barber missed a large portion of hair and shoved me out 15 minutes into a 30 minute appointment. Came in today, July 12th, to grab a beer with a friend. We both ordered a space dust. The bartender starts pouring the beers and I can see that beer tap is having an issue. Instead of just pouring one, or simply asking us to make another selection, the bartender continued trying to pour and gave us half empty glasses filled with foam. I'm not the type to complain, so I just took them back to our table but once I tasted it I knew it wasn't even an IPA. I take them both to the bartender and informed him that they weren't the IPA we ordered, let alone an IPA, they tasted like straight pilsners. The bartender said "I'm 100% certain it's Space Dust" and finally poured himself a taster and sure enough he was wrong. It was a Pilsner that he poured. He attempted to correct the mistake by pouring 2 more of the correct IPA, but once again filled them halfway. As a bartender, I would've just gave the half of what came out the tap to the guest as a courtesy, or just charged for a single beer. But instead the bartender charged the full price for both. Such a disappointing experience as he could've just let us know to order something else. read more

I had an excellent experience with Zach today. I'm SO grateful he was working and I left with one of the best haircuts and beard line-ups I've ever had. I have been having my hair cut at Bottle & Barlow for several years now. I've never had the exact same hair cut twice, never had anything less than a stellar experience, and ALWAYS leave feeling like a million bucks. It's the only establishment that I let cut my hair, and I don't even live in the area. When I'm in California I drive 90 minutes just to go to Bottle & Barlow. When I'm in Arizona, I will make a trip to NorCal to get my hair-cut and visit family. Not TLDR: Ever since my original barber moved away, I've been hunting for a new place to get cut. I decided to check this place out since I heard they offer a free drink with a haircut. I was under the impression that it was just a beer, like another barber shop in town. However, they offer free mixed drink too! I had an old fashion while I patiently waited for my scheduled cut. The drink was well made, not too sweet, not too bitter. When it was time for my haircut, Esteban was very cool and easy to talk to. He made my haircut experience very enjoyable, and his style is definitely what I've been looking for. Needless to say, I was very satisfied with the results of my haircut. Afterwards, my wife and I stayed at the bar for some drinks. It was happy hour, and the mixed drinks were reasonably priced. The bartenders werent too busy, and they engaged with us for a bit. Went here last Thursday with a group of friends for a birthday and I must say.... Being a colored group did not help. Everyone just started at us like we were in the wrong bar. We stayed behind some people in line on the right side of the bar then I noticed some chairs in the middle opened up so my 3 girls and I sat there.. Finally a blonde haired girl passed by so I waved her down to let her know we haven't been helped yet, and no one even said hello. I asked if there was a bartender that would be helping us, and she said there's a dishwasher here. If there's a dishwasher on the other side of chairs where I'm sitting I do expect to still be helped! Anyway I told her how long we've been waiting and we just wanted to get a drink. She looks at the bartender next to her and asked the guy with the big gauges to help us after. He yells yeah you guys are after this big group. Mind you we've been there far long then they have.. He finally came to help us and I asked if the Halloween menu is the same as the regular menu and he looked at me crazy. I told him I seen the expresso martini but wanted to know if the Halloween drink was the exact same, he gave me attitude. So I just told him to just make me that one drink. Bottle & Barlow feels like a hidden gem that I hope no one else finds. It's on R Street and it has an old-school/roaring 20s feel to it. I'm a big fan of their changing seasonal speciality drinks, I've yet to have one that I don't like. If you are more of a gin and tonic or beer drinker they have you covered too. The staff are always very friendly and there is a downstairs bar area, there's outside seating and a slim bar that you can sit at that's behind the bar so you can see everyone, which is really neat. During the summer parking can be a challenge but there's residential parking a block away. COVID Update: I came on a Friday that was pretty chilly so it wasn't super busy, they have outdoor seating only and they ask that you wear a mask unless seated. They seat you and I really appreciated that they sat everyone apart, they really did their best to keep different parties at a good distance from each other. There were heaters so I wasn't cold, and all of the staff wore masks. Someone would come to you at your table to take your order, and they would take your payment when done. There was hand sanitizer available and they wiped down the tables after someone left. They also have you access their menu by scanning a QR code that's at all the tables. I love that they put so much effort and care into keeping staff and customers safe. 5/5 stars for COVID safety. read more

The bar tenders Elise, Rin, and bar back rukstar are masters at mixology if they are there you are definitely in for a treat. Friday is the night I'm here currently and it is absolutely popping in here. The drinks are absolutely delicious. If you have never had a penicillin I highly recommend that you try it. But the thotcake and the big ass Johnny cash those are the two of the best damn thought out drinks I have ever tasted. However the absinthe added to the whiskey sour is definitely the best sour I've ever had. Elise is the best bartender I have had in my entire life. And if you don't tip well I will actually hunt you down. However if the drink you've asked for Isnt to your liking, they will accommodate you usually unless it is immediately busy. I absolutely love the vibe at Bottle & Barlow. I will usually sit outside and people watch with my Moscow mule. They offer happy hour from 4-7pm Monday through Friday! They have a good amount of seating as well inside and out so that's a plus! The service has always been good to me so no complaints there!! I've had my head shaped at several barbers all over Sacramento and Citrus Heights. When you have an experience with a new barber, it can be ridden with anxiety and apprehension BUT it can also be exciting. For a few years, local shops have offered a drink or refreshment while you wait for your appointment. Very charming and a great way to gain recurring customers. Sometimes though, you can be fooled into false security and think "Sure, the haircut I just got isn't perfect but the conversation was pleasant and I got that free beer!" B&B has friendly staff, an easy to use online appointment system, you can order a drink while waiting (or more when done and the bar is open), AND you walk away looking just as good as you want to or better. I've had my hair and beard trimmed here at least 4 times over the last few years (yesterday was my first pro cut in a year and a half. Thanks, C19). Everytime, it's a WOW experience to spin around and see that my fumbling directions of how I wanted my beard and hair to be shaped--paired with an experienced barber--resulted in exceeded expectations. The rudest bartenders I have ever experienced. My friend was yelled at by a female skinny bartender with tattoos for mispronouncing a drink menu item. So the next time up she asked me to go up because she was scared of the bartender. She was extremely rude, dismissive and proceeded to decide to ignore me. Another person in our party arrived late coming from work and received terrible attitude from the same bartender. I know it was the holidays but you can't just yell at people because you're not having a good shift at work. We decided to ask for drinks from the bartender on the left side of the bar and she was also dismissive and ignored us while taking shots with people she knew. On the phone, I asked Sean not to shave the back of my head because I break out very badly on my neck when it is cut close. I wanted to be very clear so I told him on the phone, "I want to be clear, I don't even want it "tight or even close..please leave at least 1/4 inch on the entire back" When I arrived I began to tell him again and he actually cut me off and said he remembered the call. Then he shaved the back to the skin with the clippers. When I got home I was shocked. I called and and said WTF? Sean actually defended himself by saying, "I didn't use a straight edge." Sean obviously stopped listening to me right after I said I don't want the back shaved :( I was just talking to myself when I then said, and nothing less than 1/4 inch long.
