Tip before you go: If you pay cash they give you a $5 discount. They don't tell you this though upfront or advertise it anywhere though. So bring cash. Also make sure you know what you want before entering. They do not do straight-razor work. Overall: Friendly service, very clean facility, with an okay haircut. I'm new to the area and have been trying out different barbers all over Sacramento to find the right fit. Was recommended to Torque by a few friends and I liked the idea of supporting small businesses owned by women. Checked out their website online to find out more and booked an appointment. Parking around the store was easy to find, plenty of residential areas with 2-hour parking. When I walked into the store, I was greeted a few minutes after the two women, Jen and Dee were done cleaning up. Dee ended up cutting my hair and was friendly the entire time. She also made sure to ask questions about how I wanted my hair every time she saw fit, which can be nice. In the end, I ended up with an okay haircut. I was satisfied but it really wasn't anything out-of-this-world to make me love it. No shade to her skills as a hairdresser though. I think what threw me for a loop is finding out that the hair cut was actually $35 vs $30 as advertised on their website. When Dee told me that it was because I was paying with card, it annoyed me a bit since I did ask them before hand if they took card and received no reply. I ended up paying a total of $42 since I decided to leave her a decent tip anyways. In the end, I don't think I will come back here mainly because I personally didn't find them that great. There has been other hairdressers/barbers in the area that charge around the same price for better service and haircuts. But if you like the Rockabilly, retro-garage feel, go for it! It's a haircut. Let's not over think this. Jennifer's been at it 20 plus years. For my old scalp, it was 10 minutes and out the door. She it's now been cutting my hair for over two years and I couldn't ask for more. She does a great job and is very quick, which is important to me because I need to get onto the next thing. I'd recommend her to anyone without hesitation.. Convenient neighborhood location - but be forewarned! The meter maids are out with a vengeance. Make sure you're legally parked. $20 for short hair, ask for a discount if you're over 62? 64? Can't remember anymore, I must be getting close. The shop is always clean and has a terrific vibe. Parking is pretty easy. I'm choosing to write this review now because of the need to support local businesses. Torque is practicing safe guidelines. Got a quick cut during my lunch break. The business décor is AMAZING!!! (they sell key chains, earrings and necklaces there too, super adorable). Anyways, the cut I had was a short bob with a razor cut, an edgy look. The stylist did an amazing job, always checking with me to make sure it was what I wanted. Came in for the first time almost a month ago with the desire for a change from the norm. I had the idea of short sides and longer on top, when Noah suggested a pompadour. Unsure but willing to try, I went for it. It turned out great, albeit the top being a little on the short side from before the cut. I totally loved it. Just came in today for a clean up as my hair's grown in a little more. Noah cleaned up the neckline, buzzed the sides with a 1 clipper, and cleaned up the right side a little bit and it turned out great if I do say so myself. I completely love the new hairstyle, as the volume on top combed back fits my round-shaped head very well. I'm 100% satisfied with the end product and am stoked to say that I've found my new barber in town. read more

Been going to Jen for years. I trust her so much that I feel I can tell her if she missed a wild hair and she patiently finds the offender and corrects it. I likely drive her nutty but she's kind enough to not make me feel too guilty. I really love the way Torque does men's hair styles. I love the diverse age ranges when I come in too, from kiddos to octogenarians they all love a good cut & style. If my poor hubby wasn't bald he'd be coming here too. Once I thought I'd "splurge" and get a $65.00 at a popular salon on J St, yeah, my bad, I had to go to Jen a few days later to fix it. When I tried to talk to the first salon I got so much attitude I just left. I can spend 1/3 of the price and get 100% better service 100% of the time at Torque. Thank you Jen for saving the day! My poor stepson suffered from WHS- wrong haircut syndrome. We needed a remedy stat. He wanted his usual retro cut: short with slightly longer bangs combed up and to the side, somewhat like an "Ivy League" style. Poor kid ended up with a grandpa side part comb over :-( We were at a different shop for the younger stepson, and I should have known better than to cheat on Jen for the older kid's cut, but we went ahead anyways. Sure enough his hair didn't turn out like he wanted, and I wasn't going to let him mope around the rest of the weekend. Thankfully Jen was open and working that morning to correct the miscommunication. Ten minutes later he walked out beaming from ear to ear and actually strutted a bit. Hubs has been getting his hair cut from Jen for 5+ years, and the oldest stepson followed along. Next time I'll remember to take a pic. They're very easy to find, and parking isn't too bad. So, my 11 yr old son wanted a 'Pompadour' hair cut. My guess was this was not a job for Supercuts. So I began looking around Yelp of course. I found Eddy's Deluxe which had amazing reviews and seemed to really know their Pompadours! So we headed down there to see Jen. Once we got there, we found out that it is now Torque. I had read about Jen and Richie and they were both there but I do not know about the rest of the staff. We were greeted by a lovely smiling red head so that was a great start! (Us red heads stick together) She got Drake a booster and had my little rag-a-muffin boy hop up into Jen's chair. They discussed what he wanted and without hesitation began buzzing off his long hair. I loved that she was confident enough to dive in! I had almost forgotten those big brown eyes were under that mess of surfer dude hair! He got exactly what he wanted and oh-ma-gosh...he looks so cute. Grandma cried when we stopped by her house afterwards and Grandpa whipped out his wallet and handed the boy a 10! Score! I also had Jen cut my hair. My hair was almost to my butt, scraggly and fried. I told her to chop it off and after she made sure of short I wanted it, again she began chopping with confidence. I have always grown my hair long and I swear it terrifies most stylists to cut it! She did a really good job and I am extremely happy with mine and Drake's hair cuts! I decided to check this place out based on other yelp reviewers. I am low maintenance and not too picky when it comes to hair, but I was nervous to go from long to short hair. However, Jennifer gave me confidence that she would do a good job because she actually took the time to listen and see the picture of how I wanted my hair to look like. After cutting my hair, Jennifer gave me tips of how to style my hair and make it look more like the hair style on the picture. The following day, I did as she advised me, and my hair looked as I imagined, amazing! I love, love, love my new look. This place is golden--the price was right and Jennifer was fantastic!!!!! I will definitely continue coming to this place for a hair cut/trim. It's a little unusual for a barbershop to employ great apes, but I swear to god I got the best haircut a chimpanzee has ever done the other day. His name was Noah and he likes camping. Now, it's true there are no three hour lines, and very few skinny-jeaned lumberjacks at this place, so if that's your thing I suggest going elsewhere. Also if you're looking for a muddled artisan cocktail you will be disappointed. Because this is a barber shop, people. If, however, you are in the market for friendly, funny, happy employees and management, short wait times, and an inexpensive, expert haircut, Torque is your destination. This is more of a review for Richie and Johnnie, both of whom are amazing barbers. I'm Asian and in college I learned that not everyone is stellar at cutting Asian hair, in fact most people mess it up. I've had my hair cut by both Richie and Johnnie and would highly recommend them. They recently joined the crew at Torque but I didn't know and went into a slight panic after I went to where they were before and then started thinking about having to find a new barber.
