The staff must have changed since Eileen visited this cake shop! I found my way here at the weekend when I needed a good birthday cake for my friend. The choices on display all looked fantastic, but we chose a beautiful chocolate gateau (half cake...half mousse and finished off by massive strawberries...) The staff were sweet, speedy and even directed us to a different shop to find candles. They wrapped up my plate of chocolate heaven in a box with a green ribbon. By the time we had sung, cut the cake and tasted it, the mousse had stared to melt...but it was still be-autiful. Whenever I go to Blackheath, I pay a visit there! Since I came to the UK, I'd always been looking for a place I can get wonderful breads. Then I found a dream place, Blackheath! There are some lovely bakeries and cafes which offer delicious french 'pain'! Especially Boulangerie Jade's bread and pastry are cute and yummy! The patisserie itself is small but cosy and staff is kind. The atmosphere is magnifique! I want to try all of their pastries and sandwiches! read more

American perspective: Fantastic, small, quaint coffee shop in Blackheath Village. Very small inside with a couple tiny tables, and a couple small tables outside as well. Not very convenient for strollers/prams, but we made it work. They have fresh baked bread and pastries and of course coffee and tea. The chocolate brownie and almost croissant are the best in town! This has to be THE BEST patisserie in London!! I often come here to pick up some "supplies" when I get twitchy for sugar. The cakes, tarts, cookies, sausage roll... everything - is utterly divine! While the food was beautiful and the coffee decent, I was completely turned off by the poor customer service. The cafe closed at 6:00 and the tables were being folded up outside and inside at 5:30! When I went in to order, the girl behind the counter said, "You can only order to take away". If you go, get there at least 45 minutes before they close, otherwise you won't be welcome. read more

Was looking forward to sitting down outside with a coffee and sandwich today, but unfortunately left shortly afterwards, less than impressed and highly annoyed. Stood waiting patiently in the queue of about 7 people, just to be totally ignored. The person in front of me was served; I was bypassed and the next two people were served. Great cosy atmosphere, perfect local café or tourist coffee stop. Hand baked pastries & breads daily, of which are superbly delicate. In my recent visits I have yet to eat something not excellent. Spinach Roll, Pain Au Chocolat, Croissants & small Pizzas have all crossed my path. However the star for me has to be the coffee, currently winning my battle for best in Blackheath. First thing to say about Boulangerie Jade is that you can't fault the product. They are a brilliant patisserie and make extremely yummy gateaux and excellent bread. However to anyone who has spent time in France is always rubs that we have to pay 5 times the price that you'd pay for it in France but I guess I should get used to that. The downside to Boulangerie Jade is that it has a couple of very uncomfortable tables and chairs and it's unbelieveably hot in there (which doesn't bode well hygiene-wise) so it's not to be recommended as a place to stop for a coffee and cake. Though it is fabulous for a takeaway as the cakes truely are excellent. read more

Agree with the first reviewer on service, although there have been more smiles lately. Jade tops my frequent visit list because the coffee is the best in the village and the Earl Grey is Twinnings. Other 'top the list' products here are the croissants. They can be a little unusual looking sometimes, but- just the right amount of buttery crumbs left on the plate to dip your finger into (so long as an over enthusiastic waitress resists whipping your plate away first); the tart tatin; and the chocolate tart; the florentines and the macaroons... and... Like the review before, whilst the cakes are nice and coffee ok the customer service is appalling. After ordering a coffee and drink and cake fir my son i asked if my 7 year old could use their toilet as he was busting. They do not have a customer toilet only a staff one, but they refused. Therefore I had to leave and find a toilet elsewhere, and leave drunks behind. Was planning to buy a birthday cake from there tomorrow but will never return, the world has gone crazy. read more
