Gail's has been my home and my happy place for as long as I can remember. Everything is so yum. I recently discovered their prepackaged grain bowls, which are little pots of interesting vegetables, grains, nuts, and seeds. In terms of baked goods, I love their Soho buns, chocolate chip muffins, inside out cookies, honey walnut almond sourdough loaf, mozzarella focaccia sandwich, and cinnamon buns. Can't go wrong with the classic chocolate chunk cookie too. Also, their iced chai is SO good. Genuinely can't recommend it enough! read more

I was lucky enough to be staying in London only a few short blocks from Gail's bakery! I'm not sure how I would have survived without the delicious breads and pastries I found there. Each breakfast was improved by a few slices of bread or a crisp, flaky pastry. My staple was the mixed olive sourdough. It was the perfect breakfast loaf - the dough flavorful, the olives sharp and briny, the crust somewhere between crisp, chewy, and tender. This loaf was also designed, it seemed, to be the perfect size for my needs! I could easily finish the loaf in three breakfasts (though I will admit to eating solely bread for my morning meals). I did not limit myself to the olive sourdough, though! For my last loaf, I ventured out to the roasted potato and rosemary bread, which was oddly (but not unwelcomely) studded through with what I can only assume were nigella seeds. They may indeed have been black sesame, but I'm pretty sure they were nigella seeds. Whatever the seeding, the bread was delicious - and half of the loaf travelled the Atlantic with me for my first breakfast back home in Seattle. Twice I ordered outside of the bread menu. My first Gail's bite was a reverse chocolate chip cookie - deep black cocoa cookie dough with caramelized (maybe?) white chocolate chunks. It was superb - indeed, one of the best cookies I've eaten. One might expect that a double chocolate cookie would be over sweet, but this one was nutty, salty, bitter, almost savory. It was sheer perfection, if a bit large for me. My other digression from bread was an almond croissant. Again, these are typically shockingly sweet, and again, this was not. The almonds and the pastry were the star, not sugar, and the pastry was all the better for it. I've never had such a divine almond croissant before, despite all efforts to find and create one. I will miss Gail's bakery bitterly and await with all eagerness another chance to sample their offerings. read more

A great place to stop by for morning coffee and pastries or lunch. It is very bright, clean and inviting. The staff is friendly and helpful and seem to be extra busy at all times. I have tried a couple of their morning breads, scones as well as coffee and it is all good. I didn't know they have other locations throughout London and came across a few others, but this location seems to be the largest of the ones I have seen so far. Will be back to try other variety of their baked goods. read more

This is my first time in London, so it's been my mission to find the best foods! I'm so happy I stumbled upon this place. There's a few locations and I went to two of them. Everything is walkable or it's easy to take the bus or train to the locations. Some locations are bigger than others. This one in particular was smaller but still good nonetheless! Any of the sandwiches or crescents are so delicious and fairly priced! The chai latte was delicious as well. Staff is very friendly too! The area around this location is fun and there's a bunch of little shops and restaurants all around. It's nice to spend some time here and enjoy a meal :) read more

Love their pastries and mini cakes! I honestly was just passing by , and this place just caught my eyes. Went in around at 10am on Thursday morning, which was like....hour before my shuttle pick up, this place was packed with people and bakeries. I'm a huge baked goods fan and I feel like I'm in heaven when I find places like Gail's !! I got chicken and pea filled pastry, salmon something.... and flourless chocolate cake. OMG they were all so good. Very flavorful in each main ingredients, and the pastry was just bang on !! Definitely visiting there again on my next layover! read more

Morning cappuccino :) There is no reason Gail's should be 3 stars. Yes its a chain, but its coffee and baked goods are far superior to the other coffee shop chains in London: Hint, the one 5 doors down from Seattle, Washington. Gails has a local vibe and it might take one a while to realize its a chain. Walking in St Johns Wood the other day, some tourists stopped me and asked if I could point them in the direction of the "World famous Gail's." That could be a bit of an overstatement, but I do love having them just down the street. I also always have them stamp my card as the 11th coffee is on them. Though I try to stay away from their baked goods because you can gain a stone by looking at them too long, their Cinnamon buns, croissants and scones are delish! read more

Yes...yes...okay... this is a chain...but it is relatively new (one and half years old) to St John's Wood....and things don't always move so quickly in "The Wood" (God how I have that phrase) So GAILs has nice looking cakes - though I query how tasty most of them actually are. I would highly recommend the Cinnamon swizzle stick though and their bread is nice too. They serve tea, coffee, hot choc etc and there is a small sit down area you can relax at. It is a small area though so it gets crowded (with people rebelling from Starbucks) - especially on Saturdays and Sundays. Oddly they have some take away salads which you can grab. Having gone through a two month salad eating phase last October I confirm that the salad are quite nice. read more

Stopped by just for a hot drink on a hot day (I know. Silly) Opted for a hot chocolate rather than my usual coffee break and was pleased but not wowed. Seems there are loads of locations and pretty good pastries so I recommend stopping in if you walk by one. The JWood location is definitely comfortable. read more

My favorite bakery!! At some Waitrose you can buy their breads, but of course none will beat the real bakery place. A little pricey, but guess it is normal for London. I always go there in the morning to get croissants, sour cherry & currant sourdough. Sometimes also buy sandwitches - they are actually very tasty. I also love mini chocolate croissants!! They are really yummy. Next time I wanna try lunch there. They only have 4-5 tables (from what I remember) so I feel it would be lucky if I could stay there. read more

Great coffee and pastries. The sour cherry and Belgium chocolate scone is my favourite. Tiny place with tables tucked close together and steps leading up. For this reason it's not wheelchair/buggy friendly, but if you can get your order, they have 2 tables and chairs outside (if they're available). read more

Gail's is another good bakery in St. John's Wood. Good bread, good sweet stuff, and a coffee that's at least better than at some other places round the corner. If the weather is nice, you can also sit just in front of the shop but there are only two or three small tables. read more

Nice pastries. If you have lots of time to have breakfast then this is the place for you. Ordered coffee, pastry and also porridge. Coffee and pastry delivered to take within 5 minutes. Waited for 25 minutes before I went back to the waitress to ask about my porridge. She then looks confused about me wondering where the rest of our order was. Ten minutes later she bring muesli and tells us they don't have porridge! No apology. So what were we waiting 30 minutes for? read more

I came to Gill's in my first visit of London. Cosy place with variety of very good pasteries. I tried windrush goat curd with honey and roasted pine nuts on sourdough with mocha for brunch that were very delicious. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well which are great. read more

Gail's is a chic bakery in St John's Woods. Whether it's for a warm cup of coffee, a refreshing fusion fruit beverage or a delicious pastry, Gail's is "la crème de la crème". My only critique would be that there's not a lot of space, so finding a spot to sit might be difficult. However, I would absolutely return! read more

Place has really changed under the new manager and not all for the better. I have coming here for several years but in the past few months their service and quality has both deteriorated.. One of the staff especially the manager us quite rude and unkind.. Not a pleasant experience on a weekend. A shame because gail is otherwise quite a good chain.. read more

I have been to all of Gail's branches , this one is the BEST. the members of staff are amazing and genuinely passionate about given you great service . the shop is very small however this is what gives it character and warmth. Their coffee tastes amazing , i think its as fresh as you can get anywhere in London. they use union coffee beans,bought in small batches and locally roasted in London , which translates to fresh tasting cofee every time. Gail's smells like heaven at 7am when it opens. Their carrot cake is divine as are the majority of their pastries. The place is pretty small and very popular so getting a seat, particularly the coveted outdoor ones can be difficult. The place is also a little pricey, but worth it. read more
