Hired to inspect pool & system for home purchase. They did catch many small things and some important safety items. BUT, the overall condition of the pool water, liner and salt chlorinator was a complete MISS! Giant yellow algae mass at bottom and black mold everywhere. The chlorinator is way too small. And it was wired hot (not with the pump), so after a few months it's now dead. I'm not a pool expert, that's why I agreed with realtor to send "his best".... Evidently, they must work hand-in-hand to get homes sold. Now I'm a chump with big bills bc neither could be honest and forthcoming. read more

Thomas Boulton did our pool inspection back in November of last year and 7 months later, we are realizing how poorly he inspected the pool. One clear example, I recently went to backwash our sand filter. I go to do it and the valve isn't even connected to the plunger that switches it from filter to backwash. And not only that, but the plunger has been jammed too far in to reconnect it to the valve arm and is completely stuck. I've spent the last two days trying to free it and still have not been able to. If I'm not successful in getting this plunger out, it's likely I will need to replace the entire backwash section which is at least $200 just for parts, probably at least $400 when labor is considered. The whole point of an inspection is to identify problems like this so that I can either be prepared to get it fixed, or fight for the prior owner to have it fixed. Looking at the pool inspection, the backwash valve was marked "A" meaning Acceptable, or "functional with no obvious signs of defect. This is a pretty evident sign of defect especially if he would have taken the time to switch the valve from filter to backwash, as you should to check functionality. I know these inspections are pretty surface level, but if you can switch the filter/pump on to check functionality, you should be doing the same for the backwash function. How do I know this was misrepresented on the inspection report by Thomas Boulton? Because my husband and I didn't even know what backwashing a sand filter was up until yesterday. Hell, we didn't even know that we had a sand filter that was capable of being backwashed up until yesterday! That's how little I know about pools and how much I've figured out this weekend alone. This is gross negligence from a business that claims to be a pool service and conducts pool inspections for home buyers. I don't know how these inspectors are selected, but I will be reporting this the the BBB as well as my real estate agent as a heads up that they should NOT be utilizing this company for their home inspections. Insane. I was going to reach out to the company prior to posting this review, however it's not even worth it. One, they will find any way to avoid claiming their negligence, and two, they wouldn't do anything for me and even if they did offer to I wouldn't accept. Avoid this company. read more

Very disappointed with the lack of customer loyalty and their arrogant machismo. They proved themselves to be rotten scoundrels and cheats. We had used this service for years to later find out they were somewhat overpriced. Realistically they charge around the same (or possibly a little higher) price as other services in town, but the quality has certainly not shown to be on the same level as other services we have since used. To their credit they came on time regularly and performed the cleaning as otherwise expected. Thus, if this is all you are looking for then considering them may not be risky. The risky part and where they really prove their supreme inferiority is in repairs. For greater than 18 months they promised to have their owner come to replace a burned out light in the pool, which despite repeated calls he had never done. The real kicker was when the +8 year old pool pump motor pooped out. Boulton called to inform us of the dead motor and asked us what we would like to do about it: replace it with a single speed motor (like the old one) or with a variable speed motor? We called them back within 2 hours, as we were at work, to find out they did not even wait for our response. Instead without our authorization they installed a new single speed motor. When we told them we did not want the single speed and wanted to install a variable speed they said they would do that, but they would have to charge us the entire cost of the single speed motor they installed without our permission. We told them this was unacceptable; however, all they would consider was selling the new motor they installed as used to help us recover the cost. We then told them the single speed motor they installed was illegal due to local pool code, which they chided us for, saying we were misinformed and they knew the law. We told them to look up the code and provided them the statue number to do so. After reviewing it, they admitted they were wrong and would credit us back the cost of the motor, that they again illegally installed without our permission, ONLY IF we purchased the new variable speed motor from them and had them install it. Upon researching the costs they were quoting us we found they were asking for $300-$600 more for the cost of the motor than other sources and were quoting more for installation than at least 3 other well rated pool service companies. These people are ego-driven cheats with a penchant for piss-poor repair service and overcharging costumers because they're too intoxicated off the fumes of their own narcissistic hot air. read more

Our HOA hired Boulton Pool Service over 15 years ago. They are hit or miss. The spa is down again today and the pool is murky. They are supposed to come every M-W-F but I do believe they missed yesterdays service call. Tom why did Amy, your best worker, leave your company. Wish she was still servicing the pool here at our HOA. I just called your crack answering service and was placed on hold for over 12 minutes. This service came with the rental home I have been in for three years. His Team could never service my pool correctly. Always debris in it, no circulation due to the filter had not been cleaned for Eons. Boulton always complained that this pool is ancient and it is, however, the fact is that his Team or himself did not know how to do Service 101. After several intense discussions on the look of a cesspool, They finally came out with a vacuum twice when I had family coming in. The second time his son came out and gave me some lip service about this would be the last time for this. This got into argument as to why and why have you not cleaned the filter? He replied I do not clean filters! I am like what do you do because as far as I can tell you do nothing. Tom and I went on a back and forth on a cursing campaign. At this point I brought in an associate who cleans pools and he took the filter out and it was total Scum. Hence no circulation. It was cleaned properly and reinserted. Shazam! I had circulation, After further research, I found a golf ball sized stone in the filter outlet and I removed it and then it was all good. I paid $120 per month for Zero Service! At one point prior one of his Team members drove up to home jumped out of his truck, turned around and jumped back in, I headed him off at the pass and said what are you doing? He said do you want me to clean your pool??? Duh!? I said yeah, that's what I am paying For! Final note. I am moving, Guess who the realty brought in to assess the pool? You guessed it. Tom Boulton himself. He could not service my pool with basic 101 pool service he is assessing Pools? Unbelievable???!!! I told the new owners the whole story more or less. With the new Service, I have had no issues and the water has been Sparkling! Amen..... read more

Boulton did the pool inspection of a home I recently purchased, and recommended only a general cleaning of the filter and pool and repair of the two lights (one in pool, one in spa). After moving in, I noticed that Boulton failed to notice the pool deck was being lifted away from the top of the pool concrete side (likely due to tree roots) and that could be a structural issue with the pool. I would expect a professional pool company to make note of this during the inspection, but Tom Boulton did not even notice. Regarding the documented issues with the pool during the inspection, I asked the seller to replace the light bulbs and pay to have the filter cleaned, which they did, using Boulton's service. Come to find out, that Boulton "cleaned" the filter without noticing it was broken, and upon using the pool system, the filter was leaking all the small debris back into the pool. Luckily I have a home warranty which covered the (~$300) replacement of the pool filter grids. I have no idea how Boulton could have cleaned the filter without noticing this, unless they were the ones to break the grids during cleaning. Boulton did successfully replace both lights, but about 6 months later, one light is burned out (less than 60 minutes of run time since they replaced), and they offer no guarantee, no discount to replace again within a time period, no nothing! Icing on the cake. DO NOT USE THEM for any inspections or repairs!! read more

They are reasonably priced, professional, and they actually kind of apologized for the price of a part-believe me, it was definitely doable! We used Bouton's Pool Service for over 2 years. Never understood how they could service the pool each week in about 3 minutes and charge so much. Then recently our pool cleaner stopped working and became clogged and nothing was getting cleaned. They continued to come weekly to do their 3 minute work, but never told us what we should do or what our options were. We were told we had to contact Tom to have it blown out. He did come out once and got it working for a day or two. It went on for several weeks with nothing from them. We finally found a new pool service company and gave Boulton notice that we were going with another company. Tom replied with a text message saying he "had replaced o rings in the vac port Jandy valve and also blew the line with compressed air, but it still had little to no suction, so they (the new company) may be able to jack hammer up your deck to replace the vac port line, but there is nothing more we can do". The new company came out for the first inspection and had it completely fixed within minutes. Extremely frustrated at the lack of service with Boulton's service and would not recommend them to anyone wanting their pool actually taken care of. read more
