     hand holding a sandwich

The weather in Louisville has finally improved, so I decided to try one of the food trucks near the class I am taking on East Market Street. This was my first time at Bourbon Bent and it was amazing! I tried the brisket, it's injected with nitro milk stout before they smoke it. One of the best briskets I have ever had, hands down! I had my sandwich fully loaded with the spicy BBQ sauce. The spicy sauce is really good, and has a nice lingering heat without drowning out the other flavors. Give it a try! Next time I would probably try the BBQ tacos or the nachos. The man in front of me had the tacos and they looked really good, loaded with meat and toppings. Prices are reasonable, my enormous sandwich was $9, and most menu items were $9 or $10 for massive portions. They do accept cards which is nice. Service was great, very fast and friendly. The truck owner told me that when the weather gets warmer they have an expanded menu that includes cokes etc. If it's cold/bad weather bear in mind the menu will be reduced. If weather is nice there are lots of benches and places to enjoy your food steps away at waterfront park. Plus you get a nice view! If you are near Humana, Slugger Field, Waterfront Park, or NuLu, this is an easy walk and a great experience!

Massive nachos for the cost of $10. Pork was very tender and had a nice smokiness to it. Service was very friendly. Great combination of sweet, tang, and smoke from the sauce, slaw, pulled pork as well as great crunchy texture of the chips themselves. The cheese is the cohesive that brings it all together, like a happy family. Enjoy!

Best nachos ever!! The meat was smoky and tender and the combination of all the ingredients was a flavor explosion! Loved the slaw and cilantro on top. They added such a unique flavor. I hope to find this truck again. Can't wait to try some other menu items. Guys were very friendly and got my food fast. I asked for a bit of spicy bbq sauce and sweet bbq sauce and they obliged. Love it when customer service is so great. Thanks for a special food experience!

Got the nachos from the truck at the flea off market a few months back. There was a twist tie mixed in!

I had the nachos several month back, at the October flea off market. Didn't realize a twist tie was mixed in until it was in my mouth. Which was such a gross and unpleasant feeling. I know they have good food here but I don't think I'd be able to eat it again without thinking of that sharp twist tie jabbing in my mouth.

Brisket Chili is really good and would highly recommend to my friends back in Wisconsin. The Mac and Cheese with Beer Cheese is really good as well!

And standing in the middle is a long-bearded man in overalls with a basket full of Ziplock baggies. And you start salivating. This is, of course, because Rusty has just arrived, and his beef jerky always seems like the perfect addition to a night out. The first time you see him you're cautiously intrigued. By the fifth and sixth time, you greet him like an old friend. And this is because Rusty is a local institution. Rusty is "keep Louisville weird" in real life. I love that he's a part of the Louisville nightlife scene. And much more than hype -- his beef jerky is really good. I love his teriyaki jerky, which has a bit of a sweetness to it. The jerky with black pepper has a bit of a kick, but not too much that makes you want to stop eating. (And if you are in the mood for something spicy, Rusty has some varieties of jerky with some heat as well.) And tonight I got to try some of his bacon jerky ... because ... bacon. I love me some bacon (obvs) but had never had bacon jerky before. I'm happy that I could get to do this through Rusty. And my thoughts: It's not as flavorful as typical, just fried bacon, though I think that would normally happen in the jerky process. But it still is delicious -- and absolutely so after a couple of beers. Considering it's more fatty than typical jerky, it's not as dense, but again, good. Rusty must know his audience because I can imagine eager Highlands bar-goers, literally, eating it up. Each of the bags is $5. It's a modest amount of jerky in each, but again, he knows his clientele. And I've shelled out a fiver on multiple locations to get this locally made treat. So next time you see a man in overalls carrying a basket walk in, ask him what he has to sell tonight and enjoy the savory goodness.
