We honestly weren't expecting much, and just needed a place to kill a few hours while we waited for our lunch reservation, but walked away kinda impressed with the place. The Good: *Free *Fairly large dirt parking lot *Port-o-potty in the parking lot *Leashed dog-friendly (on certain trails) *Trails are flat and should be easy enough for almost anyone of any age. *Lots of wildlife *There's a few other offshoot trails to mix things up if you want to stray off the main one. The Meh: *Not the biggest park The Ugly: *Trails can get quite muddy after a rain Conclusion: Swell, easy trail with tons of nature and easy parking. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but if you happen to be in the area and want to get your nature on then it's highly recommended.

This park was badly burned when we went years ago and with the most recent closure, it is finally open (2024) but it is still a bit like a tree graveyard. Unfortunately. Challenging hike, beautiful views, I love that it can connect to Gunsight rock, which is an awesome spot to picnic and have a break. On a clear day you can see all of the bay! You can park off Pythian as mentioned or get to it by Sugar Loaf. Parking off Pythian is part of the regional parks but if you access by Sugarloaf you'll need to park via their pass or a state pass for parking.

The campground itself is a lovely little gem in the heart of the city by beautiful Spring Lake. PLEASE......they need to regulate how long an rv can have their generator on!!!! The people next to us had their loud generator on from 8:05am to 8:00pm!!! We talked to the camp host who was nice but could not do anything. The rules say campers can have it on between 8:00am and 8:00pm. We have never been at a campground where someone runs their generator ALL Day Long! This made for a Horrible experience! It really ruined our two days and was very uncomfortable. I actually started getting a migraine. Length of time generators run should be regulated to a reasonable amount of time. We will not be back now and sadly it was one of our favorite campgrounds.

Sonoma County's Regional Parks Department is definitely one of the best parts of the County's…read moregovernment. The department runs about 55 parks, trails, and other scenic areas. It is charged with maintaining some of Sonoma County's greatest assets. I have enjoyed Spring Lake, Shilo, Riverfront, the Joe Rodota Trail, Santa Rosa Creek Trail, West Side Trail, and others in the short time I have lived in the area. All the parks and trails are fairly well maintained, clean, and safe for families. The department also runs camps for kids in the summer. My two boys had a great time at Kayak Camp. They got to spend four days kayaking the Russian River. They learned safety and technique and were introduced to some of the flora and fauna of the river. They had such a great time that they asked me to take them kayaking as soon as possible after camp was done. My boys also went to Discovery Camp at Spring Lake. Again, they had a great time. They learned about the wildlife in the area and got to swim in the lagoon. They also did some crafts and made a footprint trap so they could study the prints of the locals. You can support the Sonoma County Regional Parks by purchasing a Parks Pass. The pass provides free parking at all locations, so it can save you some money if you use the parks frequently.

Music in five venues, food and art vendors and plenty of space to set out folding chairs make the park a great festival site. Long time festival favorites Sourdough Slim (the yodeling cowboy) and Robert Conrad, to new young accordion phenoms like Cory Pesaturo and this year's honorary director Alex Meixner bring together an eclectic mix of the performers. My observation is that most people politely adhere to on leash protocols. I'd recommend first time visitors park at signage which indicates "no turn around beyond this point." The road does continue for another 1/4 mile but it's extremely narrow and really meant for the few residents who live down there. Better to park at the sign and walk that last 1/4 mile the first time to get the lay of the land. So how do you find this place? It's really just a stone's throw up the hill from the town of Occidental. It's easier to just put in these GPS coordinates: 38.422560, -122.996500. Want even more information? This park is great for walking your dog birdwatching having a nice, relaxing lunch, etc. The bathrooms are very rundown, but they're usually somewhat clean and always open. We had our daughter's first birthday here. It is a very nice place for a party, especially since we live so very close by but all the rules the city has now made it very difficult and they keep upping the prices for renting the area so we won't be doing that again but it was worth it at the time and a great time was had by all.

Big signs say, "NO DOGS ON THE FIELD". Dont be that guy and let your dog do a dukie on the field. Actually, don't be that guy and not even pick up after your dog at all. There are tennis courts and when I came, it seemed to look like there was a little dog park happening in the tennis court area? Not sure if that is a regular thing ? It seemed like it was. There are 2 great play structures for your kiddos to romp and play (see my attached pics) I felt very safe with my son on the equipment for the smaller structure. Not many trees or shade here at this park. There are bathrooms but are unclear if they were opened or not ? I know in summer during games they are. Not sure about the off season? There was caution tape around them.

At the time of this writing, there is already no water in the creek No playgrounds and only 1 concrete path. Turn R at Oliver's Market and go straight to the end of La Salle. Street parking.
