We were delightfully suprised with this Bow Bulgogi. The restaurant was quite small and is in a strip mall across E-Mart. We had a hair appointment beside the restaurant and decided to have an early dinner beforehand. The server was very cheerful and seated us quickly. I believe the store is family owned and it really shows their commitment to giving you good service. Our orders came in quickly as well. We ordered wonton soup, korean fried chicken bites, soju and LA Galbi. The food was great and was super surprised that their chicken bites were so crispy and tender. The wonton soup(huge bowl and full of veggies) and LA Kalbi was great as well. The food we ordered paired really well with the soju. Overall, we definitely recommend Bow Bulgogi! And will for sure come often even when we are not booked for hair appointments.

I've been reading about Bow Bulgogi for years! Yes, years. Bad Yelper Wendy for not acting on that sooner. Thankfully, I had occasion to head and eat a bit earlier this year. All I can say is... loves for Bow Bulgogi! If you've never eaten Korean, one of my favourite things about eating it in restaurants is that you automatically get a serving of things like kimchi and things to snack on. It's kind of like the bread basket that shows up to your table in other restaurants... except swap out the bread for the kimchi and things! I dove into the namesake on the menu, a big bowlful of Bow Bulgogi. It's a rice bowl filled with meat and veggie goodness... not to be mistaken with the Korean BBQ on the menu. It's an unassuming restaurant, and not a spot to linger. We got busy chatting and ran into the time of the next reservation! Just something to be weary of... if you want an evening out, I'd recommend a second half to your evening after you've finished at Bow Bulgogi.

This is totally my kinda place! Family business with great food and an authentic feeling to it. The price is very reasonable, the portions are big and they bring you plenty of side dishes like kimchi, dubu buchim (i.e. pan fried tofu), namul, etc. It's a small place and it's quite busy so I suggest making a reservation if you're a big group. It's not a fancy place at all but the quality of food is excellent. I tried the BBQ Beef Bulgogi and it's very very good. You are supposed to wrap the beef in lettuce and eat it and it makes it even tastier! I didn't get to try the squid bulgogi but the table next to us ordered it and it's the sexiest dish I've seen in a very long time! It's a giant sizzling squid! Mamma mia!

Lunch special. Apologies for blurriness, wanted to get the full table.

It's been years since I've been to this place. It used to be my go-to for a quick Korean lunch special (I remember when it used to be $9/$10 for the lunch special!) and the lineup for it went out the door. Times have changed, the prices have changed, the portions have changed but the food is still great. They always have a lunch special, I believe it is $12/$13 now for a delicious small bowl of chicken rice soup (think chicken noodle but with rice instead of noodles); a large plate of short grain rice, spicy chicken, a slab of beef short rib, mixed veg and a spring roll. The meal comes with banchan side dishes of pickled diakon radish, kimchi radish and kimchi cabbage. Ask for some free tea to wash down the meal. Food comes out pretty fast and service is decent for an asian place. Apologies for the semi blurry picture.

So my bestfriend was in from Winnipeg and our mutual friend Jen decided to take us out to Bow Bulgogi House. This was my first time having Korean food and Grace has been to Korea before so this was not new to her. I loved it and I will be going back. I only have 2 negatives to say so I'll just drop that first. It was HOT in there. They need AC or something and also it's very small I think there are less than 12 tables.. I'm not sure.. Luckliy a table just left when we got there. It's my first time eating Korean so please bare with me on this review. I wanna try the ones where you cook yourself. To start they drop off these little dishes with pickled veggies and kimchee and tofu.. yummy I liked them all but not a BIG fan of Kimchee. Tofu Buchim - Yummy Tofu, my friend Jen can eat the large all by herself. It's soooooooooooooo good and healthy. It says on the menu roasted tofu, i think it's pan fried but I don't know. It's served with this light soy sauce that's a bit sweet and salty but not strong. Dumplings - yummy hand made dumplings I liked these a lot - maybe they should put a bit more dipping sauce as it's yummy and home made as well Beef Bulgogi - Nice good portion and flavoured well LA Bulgalbi aka Short Ribs - Yummy and my favorite. They even cut them up in pieces for you Pha Jeon (korean pancake with seafood) - It sounded interesting so I ordered it. I personally wasn't a big fan of it. It had more of an egg quiche kind of texture BUT the portion is very LARGE. It had 4 diff types of seafood in it - but I didn't eat a lot but for sure it had imitation crab and mussels. I forgot to mention that they serve lettuce as well so you can do wraps or you can eat it with rice. One rice bowl for each meat dish comes with

I ordered the pork Korean bbq and my boyfriend got the spicy chicken. Both very good!

Now the group walked to the location in downtown Calgary and got caught in a rain storm. At this point, I am thinking this has to be an amazing place or I shall look for a hot chicken sandwich. Upon arrival, we were quickly shown to the patio, I assumed it was for us but concerned about the very recent rain storm that happened 2 minutes ago. The patio was covered and the sun returned. It was sunny and the area had picnic - style benches and chairs, the staff was warm and engaging. From the top: chicken wings with some is the best rubs I have ever had with a neat smoked flavor - I could have eaten them all night long. The watermelon- basil salad was delicious and refreshing, perfect for the meal, so refreshing it could replace table water and a hint of basaltic vinegar. The potato salad was ordinary and surprisingly not that flavorful given the other dishes brought to the table. The green beans with fried onions were ordinary as well and could take a pass on. I am not a pork eater, but decided to take a sample of the smoked poke belly. The flavor was amazing, smoked with a maple flavor and bold seasoning, and the squares were meaty. I spoke with someone from South Carolina and he told me these pieces are normally crunchy. If I decided to go back to eating pork, this is the road I will take. The turkey was heavenly. Normally, this a meat that is dry and often not as flavorful, but they managed to prepare it to a point of true excellence. I had to be reminded that there was dessert coming so I stopped eating turkey. Now, pecan pie is a southern staple. Bite size pecan pies arrived on the table . So here is the thing about pecan pie. This southern delight is moist, with a crust to fall in love with and a topping filled with pecans with a bit of a crunch. The filling is a delight and takes a true southerner to get it right . On that note, pass, pass, pass on the bite size pecan pies. It was like eating a dusty little pie that falls apart just by looking at it. All-in all, if you are in Calgary, don't miss this place and stay for the wings.

Quite a few places online stated that they were open late, but we were turned away by a number of places as they ended up closing earlier. Thankfully, one of them pointed us to Comery, one of the fews spots open past midnight. For a late night bite, it hit the spot! Meats are half off after 10pm.The three of us got: - $9 mango wheat - $9 cherry sour - $9.5 1/2 lb brisket (discounted at this time): tender and bombbb. There's an array of housemade BBQ sauces at every table. my fave is the spicy one - $18 wings dry rub: not very memorable but still good - $7 coleslaw: refreshing - $7 spicy fries: not bad Service was a little slow at this time. Took awhile for someone to notice we were waiting. It's dimly lit but the way the tables are set up allows for easy socializing. I would come back!

Had 8 different cuts of meat and found the galbi, bulgogi and skirt steak to be tasty. Didn't enjoy the pork belly, but I rarely do, and found the spicy pork to be bland. Beef soup was delicious as was the egg casserole. Cheesy corn tasted a lot like canned corn. Wings were cooked perfectly and wished they had more of a kick. After browsing on my own, I found my dad but my mom was no-where to be seen. Shortly after, we discovered that she walked down the street to BBQ Express - I didn't even know this place existed and apparently my mom, who hardly ever comes to Calgary knew it existed - she must have had those BBQ duck senses.. Anyways, they are right next to a Vietnamese place and there's a parking lot available. It is exactly what their name is "Bbq express" - they offer BBQ Pork, BBQ Duck, Soya Chicken, Sausage, BBQ ribs, and even Roasted pig's head if you order in advance. When you enter, it smells amazing - delicious Chinese BBQ aroma. You can see all the meats through a glass shield where they are hanging. They only do takeout and only take cash. My mom had ordered half BBQ duck and a pound and a half of BBQ pork. You can select which hanging meat you want to be cut from. The duck is chopped into small pieces and I'm not sure if they cut the BBQ pork but we did ask for it to be cut as well, they also pour some sauce on the BBQ pork. Both orders filled a decent size styrofoam container and you are given a bag of soya sauce, duck sauce and some packets of plum sauce. When we got home, we put on a pot of rice and cooked up some vegetables to go with our protein. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM fresh rice with BBQ duck and pork is one of my favorite combos!! I especially love duck with plum sauce, DROOOLLLLL. The BBQ duck was really good...tender and fatty with a slight crisp on the skin, the BBQ pork was good too, a little tougher but still really tasty, the fatty parts are the best. BBQ Express is a really great place - if you want some reasonably priced delicious Chinese BBQ meats, this is the place to hit up! What a gem of a place if you need to pick up something to bring to a pot luck or if you want to pick up something for lunch/dinner that is quick and tasty. They offer a lunch box special until 3pm(?) which is any two meats with rice, duck is an additional cost because it's so darn good. They are open every day from 10am - 7PM except they are closed on Tuesdays. I can't stop thinking about the BBQ meats here, must go ASAP!!!!
