I have been a loyal client of Bowdon Animal Hospital for over 15 years and have trusted them with all five of our animals. Unfortunately, my experience today was extremely disappointing. I scheduled my two Mini Australian Shepherds for their annual checkup and received a confirmation text stating my appointment was for June 15 at 3:15 PM. After driving approximately 45 minutes to the office, I was told upon arrival that my appointment was actually scheduled for June 17 at 3:15 PM. I showed the staff member my confirmation text clearly confirming today's date and time. Rather than offering a solution, I was simply asked if I could come back another day that week. After explaining that I live 45 minutes away, I was told I could wait, but that it would be "a while," despite having proof that I had received confirmation for that appointment time. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What was most disappointing was the lack of concern or effort to make things right. As a long-time client, I expected better customer service and accountability. I've also noticed significant staff changes over the last few visits, and the level of service no longer feels the same as it once did. After discussing the situation with my husband, we have decided to transfer our records and seek veterinary care elsewhere. It is sad to end a 15+ year relationship this way, but customer service and respect for clients' time matter. Unfortunately, Bowdon Animal Hospital has lost our business for all five of our animals. read more

I will never set foot in this clinic again. My cat was upset from being around barking dogs for an hour and they didn't know how to handle her. They put her in a pillowcase, held the pillowcase in the air, twisted it so she was trapped, put her on the table and injected her with a sedative (without asking me to sign a waiver giving permission.) Left me alone in the room with her, warned me not to let her out of the pillowcase. I thought the sedative would simply make her drowsy. After a couple of minutes she stopped moving altogether, went quiet, non-responsive, became a dead-weight. Took her out of the pillowcase, expecting her to have fallen asleep. Her eyes were wide open and staring, and I couldn't see her breathing. She looked dead. My previous cat died in my arms. My cat looked exactly like that. Thinking they had overdosed her, or she'd had a bad reaction, I yelled for help, banged on the door, started crying. When someone finally showed up, they just said "didn't you realize we were sedating her?" Evidently they routinely sedate pets like this in front of their owners, not realizing that it's extremely frightening to see your pet look straight-up DEAD. Owners are not trained in veterinary medicine or sedation and don't know what it's supposed to look like. No other vet I've been to has performed this procedure in front of me. Worse, she didn't wake up in the 30-45 mins I was promised. It took a full 2 hours, and an injection of saline. I suspect the vet gave her too much sedative. They were unsympathetic, one employee was almost mocking when I explained why the incident had upset me. And I still had to pay $150+. DO NOT GO HERE, unless you want the experience of seeing what your pet will look like when they pass, because it was horrifying. EDIT: I took a photo, but I can't bring myself to upload it, because it's honestly very disturbing for anyone who hasn't seen an animal under sedation before, and I don't want anyone reading this to be upset. Hopefully, my words will be enough. read more

Too Busy To Care. They Breed Discriminate against Sheherd Mixes. My heart dog died a tortuous painful death after they refused care. My cat also deteriorated to the point he had to be euthanized after a "hospital" stay that he was did not receive medical care overnight, even though I got charged for it. read more

I took my dog to get spade here, and when I picked her up her belly was covered in blood and her paws had poop all over them. I just took the bandage off of her paw where her IV was and THEY LEFT THE IV IN HER ARM and covered it with a bandage. Do not recommend. read more

Usually I'm satisfied with Bowdon Animal Clinic, but a recent experience angers me. I visited with kittens. I called the next day, Thursday, because I had a question about flea treatment. I left a message for a call back, as well as my question, with the receptionist. On Friday, having heard nothing, I called again. Again, I left my question and asked for a call back. Four hours later, and it being late on a Friday afternoon, I asked my husband to call. Unbelievably, he was put on a short hold, then was given the answer to my question. Why was it necessary to have my husband call? Why was I ignored? This is not the way to treat your customers!! read more

I've been with Bowdon Animal Hospital since its inception. Though I will admit that they will not see an animal for just grooming if the dog needs its shots, they have ALWAYS told me beforehand that the shots are necessary for the animal to be seen. Is Bowdon Animal Hospital a bit expensive? To my disabled paycheck, oh yes! But I haven't checked around either. I have known Dr. McCord since before he moved his practice to Bowdon, and he is without a doubt a good man with a great mind and a heart of gold. I have nothing but good things to say about the other doctors there and how they have treated our dogs and cats, including multiple life or death situations and two emergency visits (one on a Saturday night and one late Sunday night). In every case, thankfully, the animals' lives were saved. Still, we cannot have everything, and some of the office staff need help with their . . . etiquette. To have incredible doctors and nurses to care for our fur-family, a little irritation now and then is worth it. read more

I hate writing this, but after today's experience with this clinic, which has handled my Mom's dog for years and years, we are left both stunned and angry. Long story short, make sure you have them explain in great and precise detail what your dog is getting that day. Example: while talking about trimming nails and a bath and cleaning ears, make sure they don't slip in other services with grossly abbreviated descriptions, that you've then "signed for" and must pay. They told me the dog needed shots in two months. They asked if I wanted to bring her back then (two months from today) and I said "no, she really needs a bath. " So we discussed the bath, the haircut, the nail trimming - and then they handed me some highlighted things to initial. I should have asked them what the abbreviations meant, instead of just assuming they were the services we were discussing. What they did was to go ahead and write her up for $110 worth of shots that they JUST told me weren't due until March and then have me sign it as if it were what we were discussing. I just hope the $110 they got from is tonight was worth losing a long term customer. We will not go back. Not sure what is going on there, but we'll find a vet with more honest practices and employees. read more

We are extremely dissatisfied with this group and their boarding cost "tactics" - all of which was NOT explained to us prior to boarding our two dogs. They close on Saturday at noon, so you obviously have to get your animal there prior to noon. And then they are only open on Sunday to pick up your animal at 5:00 PM. So under their rules, your animal has been there for 2 days because they don't go by how many nights the animal is there! (their clock starts prior to noon each day to determine a 24 hour period) However, they don't tell you that until you pick them up, even though when I called ahead to get cost, they knew I was leaving my dogs for this exact time period! And keep in mind, the drop off and pick up time on these particular days is controlled by THEM! SO BEWARE! And most importantly, they do not seem to care about one being surprised by the additional cost. We will not go back, even though they are super convenient location. I've never encountered this approach to boarding, and I've lived in many different cities. read more
