This is the restaurant nestled inside of Buckhorn Lake State Resort. Just like many other state park restaurants, it's downstairs and overlooks the lake. I was staying the long weekend at the lodge and found myself here on three separate occasions. I must say, that even though it's similar to the other state park lodge restaurants that I've been to, it's not as large. But it has the same ambiance as the rest, sort of 1970ish. The food and serve were good, so I really shouldn't complain.
The first time, I ordered the chicken strip meal, which came with my choice of two sides. I chose a baked potato and onion rings. The onion rings were some of the best that I've ever had. They were perfectly breaded and fried. The baked potato was ok, not the best that I've ever had, but sour cream and butter were provided. The chicken strips were excellent and everything was piping hot. I must admit, I was eying my husbands southwest wrap though, so as late dinner, we headed back anticipating dessert, but we ended up splitting a wrap. The waitress split it for us, she brought it out on two separate plates. It was so good! The last time that we visited, I ordered a salad and asked for the chicken to be buffaloed, it had a kick, almost too hot for me. I made it through, thanks to the basket full of crackers to help sop up the heat in my burning mouth. One thing that surprised me, only because we were there during off season, was everything was fresh. Each time that we were there, very few other people dining there.
We had the same waitress each time. She was always on point, sweet and called us "Hun" maybe twenty times.
During off seasons, this place is only open certain times and certain days of the week. The time that we were was during winter, and it was open Friday-Sunday, closing on Sunday at 4pm. read more
